The action starts this sunday, with the first match in the Priority Pick Finals- Melbourne Versus Fremantle.
Both teams have lingered down in the bottom four all season, and with potential number one picks, Nicholas Naitunui, Daniel Rich and Jack Watts all ripe for the plucking, this match is sure to shape as a major decider in the winner of 2008's 'Superdraft',Henceforth known as-The ultimate.
Melbourne have comfortably gained their spot in the contention for The Ultimate, and have been tipped by many to be the eventual winners in the cup. But the last few rounds have seen a slight jump in form. Scaring teams, and in some cases exposing weaknesses.
Fremantle may be the only team that have made it into the cup by sheer luck, Freo have looked the good in some matches, have employed... debatable tactics in others, and have just been plain shocking in some. Much praised midfield specialist Shaun Mcmanus has come into the side this week, replacing young Rhys Palmer... a boy widely tipped as 2008's rising star winner. This may be the key to Freo's hopes of continuing their race to the priority pick.
Key game figures:
Matthew Pavlich: The Big Pav has been the difference between winning and losing for freo this season, if the superstar forward comes to play, Melbourne are well on their way to winning.
The entire Melbourne Squad: If these boys perform as a team, they'll have the upmanship on fremantle.
Other Contending Teams:
The other teams in contention this season are
Rehab Kings, The West Coast eagles and Grand Final Heroes, Port Adelaide.
Both teams have put themselves in the right position for The Ultimate. West Coast are more than on their way to winning it, they've become this seasons weekly rape targets.
Port Adelaide have never looked like wanting the PP, but they've also never looked like they didnt. The obvious underdog in the quest.
Final Word
How could one fail to mention the Priority Pick Cup's heroes- Carlton FC. Winning the spoon, and the PP has become synonomous with the club, as well as shady under the table dealings.
You could never write The team that invented tanking off, theres still time to dive into contention.
