Some say we don't deserve a pick but its fine for the premiers to get Kurt Tippett for nothing.

He has been great for a big man in the wet tonight.

It's a little frustrating that opposition fans still fail to recognise this. We're hardly being 'rewarded' for incompetence as so many posters try to claim. The debate over a PP has only come up because we're so inconceivably bad on field and off it. We're in the shit and any assistance is going to come with plenty of strings attached. I don't really want us to get a PP or the handout from the AFL, because it does appear unfair and the droning from opposition fans will be insufferable, but given the state of the club it's hard to say it isn't needed.

I don't think supporters of the Lions or the Swans give a fat rats clacker that the flags they won were built on AFL assistance, neither would I.
The Swans were on the AFL drip for many years and still receive a yearly free kick through salary cap concessions and the outright hypocrisy of Voss's statement regarding Melbourne perhaps getting a PP is staggering considering the concessions they received before and during their premiership run.
If we get a PP it is only because the AFL thinks we need it / deserve it to become competitive, it is not a handout or unfair, and is not the first time that the AFL has assisted a poor performing club and it will not be the last.

If we don't get one they should scrap it forever because you can't be much worse off than us self inflicted or not , even when we tanked we only lost to Richmond after the siren , now we can barely beat GWS trying to win

that was the lay of the land, same as when you got Mclean Sylvia, Collingwood got Thomas/Pendle....Hawthorn Franklin/Roughead . There was no Royal commission called to decide on any extraordinary set of circumstances. this is different

They only introduced the mechanism for PP's outside of the 4.5 wins rule last year.

The 'commission' rule was not in place back then was it? They just handed PP's out to whoever and whenever.

This rule has changed last year, so any club that wants a PP must apply for it.

No matter if you've won one game in four years or fourteen in four years.

This may be different, but it's better.

The issue with getting a priority pick will be based on games won over a few years. Regardless of draft picks if the AFL want us to continue to only win 2 - 5 games a year then they will leave us alone if they want us to be competitive then they will give us a priority pick (at the start) and I would be betting the Dogs get one next year and the Saints the year after. Giving us on end of round one pick will not do anything for us.

Nah
I think they may as well scrap it all together or out a end of first rounder , it's enough value to trade for an experienced player

Flog Barrets article in regards to us and a PP, I hope we get one just to rub it in his smug little face!

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-08-20/no-more-handouts

That's certainly a big driver for me in hoping we get it mate.

Would dearly love to see the reaction from Barrett and various other so-called "journalists", not to mention a sizeable proportion of opposition posters around this site of course, mainly on the MB.

Should it happen, many toys will be forcibly ejected from prams all around the country, with extreme prejudice!

Sigh.

And if the 2008 1st OVR pick gets traded? Along with the 2009 1st OVR who we lost to an AFL expansion side?

he has misunderstood completely hasn't he. if ever there was a case for the AFL using it's discretion to hand out a priority pick under the new rules, surely the dees qualify? if not, exactly how bad do you have to be before one can be pried loose?

What an insightful revelation that is. All this time I thought it was the fault of the other clubs.

Sick of this flog, I think it's time to pick up the phone... three-six-two-four-three-six

Great reference :thumbsu:

Yes, it's time someone made a stand.

For a fee.

Brilliant article.
  • Need to fix our own problems - tick
  • We're broke and looking for handouts - tick
  • We've received a couple of priority picks in the last 5 years - tick
  • Compensated for losing Scully to GWS - tick
  • Picked up Jack Viney via the father son rule - tick
So in summary you don't deserve a priority pick because you're shit and you need to sort out your troubles yourselves. So anything short of the plane the whole squad is on exploding mid air, no priority picks.

I get the impression this article is made from snippets of a bunch of different Demons rants he had lying around copied and pasted randomly into one incoherent pile of hateful blather. It's not even lazy journalism.

What about GWS then? They've had all the help in the world and still can't win more than 1 game. Maybe they deserve pick 1 & 2, like the picks we received in 2009. They could use it to trade for senior players.

I don't want a priority pick and I hope we don't get one. If we get one, fine... but the AFL already did enough when they gave us two first-round picks as compensation for Scully, especially when you consider we tanked to get him in the first place.

Hoping for a priority pick just makes me feel uncomfortable. I felt the same way when some people carried on about Jordan McMahon being our lord and saviour after he kicked that goal in against us 2009.

I don't care whether we get one or not but the fact is that if we do not get one then it must be abolished. This is exactly what it is for and if they don't give it out then can it. GWS have already been told they will not receive a pp due to compromised drafts and still having more players to cut this season.
