St Kilda asking for a priority pick due to their slew of "non-traditional injuries".

Gee, I wonder how the media will respond to this...
saints will never be a progressive modern club until their injuries are.........

Quick question... does anyone else remember the circumstances that led us to trade #16 for Barnaby French in 2002.?
whilst seeking a quick answer to your quick question I discovered this - what a ripper/shocker if true!

"French announced his retirement at three quarter time of the Blues' Round 22, 2006 match against the Sydney Swans, which they lost by 92 points."

Can we close this thread? I realise there'll be a discussion, but honestly, what's the point of this thread?

1. We won't get one, unless we ask.

2. If we do ask, others will kick up a fuss, and we won't get one. And we'll be pilloried.

So we won't get one and we may or may not be pilloried. That is the end game of this entire wasted discussion.

Seriously, do we really need this discussion thread so other supporters can heap it on us?

While we as supporters or as a club entertain this discussion we will never be a destination club.

A bit of pride would see this thread locked.
Just because you don’t like the discussion of a subject doesn’t mean others shouldn’t be able to discuss it. If you don’t like the thread unwatch it, simples.

Priority Picks should be scrapped.

But if Gold Coast and St Kilda get one, we should definitely be getting one as well. Thus, it would be negligent for our board to be "too proud" and not ask for one. Remember Hawthorn won all those premierships on the back of priority picks. But in 50 years time, they will be remembered for the premierships only - and not the priority picks that got them there.

Thus, we should be asking for a priority pick.

In 10 years there will be other clubs struggling at the bottom of the ladder for a sustained period who will get a PP. and we will be kicking ourselves if we don’t get one due to pride. 17th on ladder, we still have so far to go!

what's this unwatch concept please?

Ah, didn’t know that

IIRC, we were forced to trade the pick before the AFL took it from us as part of the salary cap punishment.
The point is a pretty handy pick was traded for less than face value, (no disrespect to Barnaby), because we effectively had to trade it. If you attach conditions to the use of assistance you reduce its value to the recipient

I can't fathom why it's okay for a club like the Saints to ask for a PP when we get so much backlash, even from some of our own supporters, if/when we do it. The Saints have six wins, FGS.
I think it helps our cause, if we did decide to apply. And I just get the feeling Simon L will get what he wants from his best mates at HQ...

Lol wtf Saints, no chance in hell they get a PP when they are on 6 wins now and with a new coach will likely pick up at least 1-2 more for the remainder of the year.

What makes you think there won't be backlash towards St Kilda?

The very first article I saw on this was headed "Saints' stunning request for AFL handout".

It's been "news" for hours.

The only "supportive" article I've seen was from The Roar, presumably from a St Kilda contributor, who suggested GC shouldn't get a priority pick because they just lose their top draftees anyway, and St Kilda should get one because they've never tanked and they got unlucky with injuries to players like McCartin.

By that logic, WB should get one because Boyd retired due to mental health. That seems to be the argument - we drafted some talented kids but they've been unlucky with injury and haven't come on, so we should get extra picks to compensate for it. But also, we drafted Max King off an ACL and Jack Bytel off a chronic back injury....oh, and threw draft picks at Carlisle (degenerative back + coke fiend) and Hannebery (utterly broken) without bothering to do medical checks.

This looks, and is, desperate from St Kilda. They've made a mess of a rebuild and are facing down another one.

This is the situation in which a priority round for the bottom 8 sides would have helped had it been in play for a few years. St Kilda and a host of other non-finalists would have had an extra top end pick each season, and could have been more proactive in trading for established players without sacrificing their ability to draft good young kids.

As the rules stand now though, St Kilda have about as poor a claim to a priority pick as anyone, and I fully expect a number of key voices in the media to trumpet that all over their respective publications and programs.

what am I missing here - what do people gain from watching a thread that they don't from just opening the site and reading stuff?
The computers are actually kinda helpful. They'll give you notifications for threads you watch (even if you're not directly quoted) so you know that there's new juicy bits of Tid you can go and check out.

The best function is that it seems to take me to the last post that i read. So I don't have to trawl to find where I left off.
