Hey, remember when coach of perennial strugglers Geelong, Chris Scott, had a good old bitch and moan about the "priority picks" given to powerhouse North Melbourne?
That was a good laugh...

Chris seemed to forget that not all "handouts" aren't 2nd round draft picks with caveats.

The hypocrisy of that coming from a club that one three flags on the back of getting multiple gun f/s for third rounders while still getting their first round selections, causing the rules to be changed so we had to match WC's first round bid on LMac...

But yeah, a few must trade second rounders to bring in a handful of unwanted players from other clubs, definitely way more of an unfair advantage than, say, the AFL conveniently overlooking every time the Cats recruit a big name, Cotton On suddenly find the need for a new store in the Corio Bay area.....

Ashcroft's, Fletcher's, Daicos's tearing up, and now he doesn't like f/s anymore ?

Have a big sook Chris.

We've had our chances to build a team. It looks like we've failed.

That's not on anyone but us. I don't want to hear complaints of compromisation. I'm still not sure I'd take Daicos over JHF. For footballing impact. JHF will do to you in 24 touches what Daicos will in 43.

Maybe we get Thilthorpe, but an SA boy, at number one, with a SA team holding the first pick? There's probably a world where they play it safe and we get JUH and then... well, you know what happens next. Maybe David Noble makes him crawl around on the ground naked. Maybe he becomes the big behemoth he is now. We don't know. Pointless exercise.

And Sheezel last year produced a patch of football that I think will be better than any Ashcroft patch.

We'd be laughed out of the building, and understandably too

I don't think another 18yo kid is going to be the answer anyway.

There's enough talent on the list to start being consistently competitive and claw our way up the ladder and get into a position where decent players might actually consider coming here.

Easily. It's a better list than any of the last five years. Looking at 2018-19 and the Hrovats and Hartungs and such, it doesn't feel much worse than then. And yet it feels like we're regressing more steeply than ever.

Something is so pungent at Arden St that I doubt they can smell normality anymore

How do they decide where in the picking order is the priority pick is given?
Prior to 2012, a team automatically received a priority draft pick if its win–loss record met pre-defined eligibility criteria; since 2012, priority draft picks will be awarded on a discretionary basis by the AFL commission.

which round in the draft that pick will be taken, has been developed that takes into account such factors as:

  • premiership points that a club has received over a period of years (with greater weight to recent seasons),
  • a club's percentage (points for/points against x 100) over a period of years (another indication of on-field competitiveness, with greater weight to recent seasons),
  • any finals appearances that a club has made in recent seasons,
  • any premierships that a club has won in recent seasons, and
  • a club's injury rates in each relevant season.

Couldn't hurt, all those 2nd round picks we've spent haven't helped..... at all.

So if thats the case we should end up with pick#1 to start with;):laughv1:...
