This letter has since been rescinded by the club as incorrect.
They won 34 SANFL premierships as Port Adelaide Football Club, but Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club won 2. PAMFC has since merged with PAFC in 2010. There was no such thing as Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club until 1997.

It was 100% correct at the time and it was correct to the club for about 14 years.

The only reason it wouldn’t be correct today is because the Power decided to kill the Magpies team by making it an AFL reserves side. The Magpies are virtually non-existent. All that exists today is an AFL team that’s won one Premiership.

This is just your opinion though. The fact is your club decided to rewrite history and everyone else can call a spade a spade but you can’t see that.

I feel sorry for all the diehard Magpies fans who hate the Power and the fact the AFL has destroyed their actual club.

You all like to go on and on about how much you care but when was the last team you actually went to an SANFL game?
So, then Melbourne, Geelong, Carlton, etc didn't exist until 1897 or even 1990 when the AFL became a thing? It's like saying VFL/AFL teams don't have VFA/VFL premierships, because they formed a different club in the VFA/VFL, today.

How is that even remotely the same comparison?

The Power weren’t a continuation of the SANFL side when they were established in 1996. They were an entire new club.

The Magpies played on in the SANFL and had a slight name change.

The Power shafted the Magpies and robbed them of all their resources. The only reason “One Club” exists today is because the Magpies were on their knees and had to be bailed out.

Exactly... And that's what these "it's not Port Adelaide it's Port Power" morons don't understand.

Because it's the same "X club moves to a different competition."
The Power weren’t a continuation of the SANFL side when they were established in 1996.
Where did you get 1996 from? The Port Adelaide Football Club got their AFL license in 1994, The Power branding began in 1995.
They were an entire new club.
Why do you believe that? Because they like many of the VFL teams they changed their branding and competition? So, Melbourne became a new club in 1897 when they joined The VFL after being in different competitions? Or, when Melbourne changed their branding to The Demons they began a new club?
The Magpies played on in the SANFL and had a slight name change.
So that would mean Melbourne, Geelong, Carlton, etc didn't exist until 1897 or even 1990. Those clubs playing in different competitions doesn't matter, they're new clubs once they joined The VFL or even The AFL rebrand.

You are wrong on ALL counts.

The Port Adelaide in the AFL is a continuation of the original club formed in 1870. A new Magpies club was formed to replace them in 1997 - even the AFL website says 1870.

What part of that don't you understand??

I feel sorry for people like you who can't comprehend fact from fiction.

FACTS:

Port Adelaide were established in 1870.

In 1996/1997 the club moved from the SANFL to the AFL. Yes, this included a change of Guernsey, Colours and Club Song. The License for the AFL was awarded to Port Adelaide in 1994.

To replace Port Adelaide in the SANFL, the Port Adelaide Magpies FC was established. While they adopted the Prison Bars jumper and the "Cheer Cheer the Black and the White" song, it was, in essence, a "new" club. They were also forced to be based out of Ethelton but played at Alberton Oval. They weren't allowed to be based out of Alberton due to rules the SANFL made.

In 2010, the two clubs "merged" (more of a takeover) under the "One Club" banner.

Judging by your Rey Skywalker profile picture I imagine you’re about 12 years old. Even if you’re not the chances you weren’t even alive beteeen 1996-2010 are significantly high so you have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about.

Go on Port Adelaide SANFL Facebook groups. Go to their games. Ask people how they feel about the Power and I guarantee you’ll find a lot of people who feel as though their club was stolen from them and that the two aren’t one in the same.

Anyone who’s not a Power fan and see it’s stolen history.

What I don't understand, there's people who make up arbitrary rules for Port Adelaide's establishment, but they don't apply those very same rules to all the other clubs that moved competitions or changed their branding/identity.

So you’re telling me that in 1998 when Port won the SANFL Grand Final you would’ve be fine with saying it was the clubs first Premiership? I doubt it.

if West Coast had won a flag between 1986-1989 you wouldn’t have this view

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Here we go.

Are you ready, champ?

I was born in August of 1990. I'm 33 1/2 years old. I'm probably older than you.

Yes, there are people who feel different emotions about the One Club situation and how Port had to go about entering the competition.

But guess what? You can't rewrite or make up history just because it's Port. Get over it.

It's the same club.

I deal with facts mate, not people who are saltier than the ocean and have to come up with BS excuses or explanations to justify their fanciful recreations of what actually happened.

You call me "12", I bet you're a sock account for someone given your "Debutant" title.

I know what I'm talking about. You don't. The fact that you've resorted to making this personal shows that.

The 1998 Premiership was won by the Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club. Until 2010, SANFL flags won after 1997 were counted separately because they were not won by the Port Adelaide Football Club. Premierships prior to 1997 however, are.

For specifically Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club it was, which was a different club with different facilities and a different home ground. In fact, Port Adelaide Football Club were actually going to move into The AFL and have no SANFL team, but something happened where a new Magpies club was formed in The SANFL. Like I said, they've since merged with Port Adelaide Football Club in 2010.

Why are you deflecting? I guess I must be right that you've set arbitrary rules for Port's establishment, but you don't apply the very same rules for Melbourne, Geelong, Carlton, etc who did the very exact same thing as Port did. The fact you came out with 1996 which has no "first milestone" significance for Port proves you don't know what you're talking about, since The Power branding came out in 1995, and 1994 was when they got their AFL license.

Just had a little watch of 1998 SANFL Grand Final on Youtube. At the 2:29:20 mark you can hear the commentator say and i quote "Congratulations to Port Adelaide who have won their 35th Flag"

You're lying. Its as simple as that.

No point arguing.

It's probably a sock account for some moron. Or it's Leigh Whicker.

The Commentator, like many people including you, had the incorrect information.

I'm not lying mate - what have I got to gain by lying?

You're the simple minded one here!

West Coast were also a new club formed from scratch....Port were an existing club.

Apples and Oranges.
I was talking about their arbitrary rules they set, where if something has a name change, it must be a new thing, ie Magpies to Power, but they don't apply it to say when The VFL became The AFL, or when Melbourne who have also changed their nicknames, colours and competitions. Double standard stuff. I don't subscribe to their illogic theories, though, they were trying to insinuate that to deflect the facts I presented that changing names, colours or competition does not necessarily mean it makes something a new thing.

What was the point of this exactly?
They could have just had a Port Power reserves side in the AFL reserves/VFL then this whole stupid debate wouldn't exist.

You're actually a tool. The level of gaslighting here is insane.
And out come the insults. Nice one. You're losing the argument so you've resorted to name calling.

Look up the term Gaslighting, champ.

No idea, honestly. I think the idea (which probably seemed like a good idea at the time) was to keep a "Port Adelaide" in the SANFL...

And sadly, I can see it happening again if we leave to join the VFL 🙄

They weren't even going to have an SANFL team in 1997, once they moved into The AFL. The SANFL I believe made some sort of demand for them to form another club for The SANFL, since they owned them. I think Brian Cunningham told that story.
