Being at the MCG today I recon I saw 10 Prison bar jumpers and maybe 2 normal PA jumpers
If I time my next trip to Melbourne correctly I'll be in the PBs at the G soon lol

I find our fanbase tends to have one of the most varied selection of jumpers on game day out of any other club I've seen, and this isn't because I go to Port home games or anything since I live in Melbourne and only get over to SA for Gather Round. Lots of PBs around on Sunday, and I would've been another wearing if I wasn't rocking last year's SANFL Indigenous jumper (so again, no teal). Saw a decent mix of older and newer training jumpers going around too. But yeah pretty happy that a good portion of our fanbase gets around the PBs enough to wear in a decent quantity on game day.

Port agreed to it as a term of theie entry into the comp. Some fans may be too young to remember it, but it's a fact.

They can wear the PB in the SANFL or wherever else they please, but they're being expected to honour the agreement they freely entered into.

Collingwood is agree legitimate stakeholderand of course have a position on the matter.

If PA want to try to renegotiate then of course that's fine, but the air of entitlement from some fans is simply misplaced.
This, or give up your licenses and go back to SNAFL.

The people who run the club know the reality. There can only be one team that wears black and white stripes in the AFL, and that's the Collingwood Football Club. Power supporters can please themselves and pretend to be magpies if they wish, which reinforces my view that they really wish they belonged to the Magpie Army.

Nobody cares about a magpie army. Stop thinking everything is about Collingwood.

I keep saying it, there brand is the most identifiable in Australia, but its so identifiable that people cant tell the difference between prision Bars and Stripes.

Gold Coast literally used West Coast's Clash kit a week ago and we could still tell who they are.

There are clubs in soccer leagues around the world with literally identical kits and people work it out almost instantly. It’s a fake problem.

Ironically Port people would be infinitely more receptive to wearing teal as a clash option if we could wear the Prison Bars regularly. Currently teal is seen as an obstacle, so once you squash that idea you actually open the door to INCREASING the differentiation between the brands.

It’s counterintuitive but 100% truth.

The problem is Port is so routinely obsessed with its past, that it can't see the jumper with the Vs and teal is probably the best looking jumper in the AFL. Instead of embracing that, the supporters (and Koch), look backwards and wail to the moon. It just makes the club look like small town amateurs.

The only small town amateurs in this debate are the one’s resisting the system and standards that are used by the biggest professional sport leagues in the world.

This from a poster that has sweet 16 in his profile picture;)

I didn't think this was a debate about premierships, but I'm happy to have that too. Fire away.
Ok so your allowed to live in the past, but Port can't?

Makes total sense:D

Doesn't that just add to our argument? That we'd be willing to give up the "best looking jumper in the league" because we want to wear the guernsey that best represents Port Adelaide?

It's incredibly small time from the AFL. Collingwood feeling they need to protect their brand against someone who isn't trying to take it is also pretty small time, but the AFL have control of the identities and the final decision here. There isn't another major professional sports league in the world where this is a problem. The most famous sports teams in the world all wear clash kits when they play away from home.

I still vote there be a "Battle for the 'Bars" having both teams fight to wear their own traditional Magpie kits in some sort of charity match. One team wears a unique kit for charity, other wears their Magpie kit. Whoever wins gets to wear the Magpie kit the next time. etc

My main issue with argument for the bars being a permanent home jumper is that it's a Port Adelaide Magpies guernsey - more than happy for it to be rolled out every showdown and/or heritage round as it's an iconic design - but Port are in the AFL as the 'Power' and should have a Port Power jumper as their home and away.

They're in the AFL as the Port Adelaide Football Club, and should have the right to wear whatever home guernsey they want, just like all other 17 clubs do.

'Power' is not officially part of their name in any capacity.

Hell of a call from a supporter of the Brisbane Lions who routinely wear guernseys of the Fitzroy Lions and sometimes of the Brisbane Bears. If you can rightly recognise the history that has lead to the Brisbane Lions as they now are in the AFL then it's pretty weird to go "yeah but it's a different Port Adelaide"

This is just about a cardable offence on this board. Digging up a thread that hasn't been posted in for more than 12 months just to shit on Port Adelaide.

I'm sorry but given there is no new news, there's really no reason for me to keep this thread open right now and go through all the same arguments again.

I will reconsider in a few days once everyone has calmed down.
