The French Govt are introducing a scheme where if citizens wish to receive universal or free health care from the public system then they must sign over the rights to their health information. If you refuse to consent, then you are charged for the services however you retain the rights to your information.

Chip, chip, chip away at your rights....how long before this is flagged here.

Big Brother ....it aint just a TV show.

I would have thought it was very fair.

In Australia you have to declare pre-existing conditions to get private cover. Why should it be any different for those wishing to get free cover?

Not sure if I have explained it well enough.

It is not about whether folks are eligible or not, just all Australians are covered by medicare and public health treatment.

It is about having the right not to have identified data of yours released or used without your knowledge.

but maybe I'm being cynical - I am sure Govts just want full unfettered access to our information, the right to combine identified databases and creates full profiles - genetic, financial, social, educative, location -and have the right to outsource the data to any private entity or organisation they wish.

DNA ....that is the fire in the hole.

Yes, but you have a choice. If you want pricvacy you pay your way. If you want a handout you forego that privacy.

It would make life a lot easier for doctor's that's for sure....

who will the information be available to? If it's available to the govt i hope this sort of thing isn't introduced here.

Re The Title

How many of you pronounce it the heritage way and how many follow the USA gospel now?

Mind you, I'd rather one than the other. Sure beats the halfway house pronunciation of fantastic. Not as spelled and not as fairntairstic (USA) but fairntastic (first sb USA, second English)

I think you'll find that already the govt has a tonne of info on you if it applies to a magistrate to access.

ie. your phone accounts, your medicare history, your history of access to PBS drugs, your driving record, even the movements of your mobile phone, your credit card and eftpos transactions etc. etc.

however they usually do this on an exceptional basis, as its very time costly, personel costly, intensive type work.

the real crims use a set of false ids, false accounts, pre paid mobiles and dodgy medics to avoid being scanned.
