Ok, rather than us waste all that money on Cloke, how about we become pro active & scour the 2010 & 2011 for players who have been in the system for a couple of years & their current club won't be able to meet our offers. I am especially concentrating on Gold Coast & GWS players as the targets. Here is a list of both years, there are some high picks who I reckon could be good pick ups, what do you think???

1) We do have a 'Pro Scout' who focuses purely on AFL and state leagues.
2) Don't just post the entire list of draftees, why don't you make some suggestions instead.
3) What's with the bold text and shit formatting?

Well DF9, my comment was made as a alternative to spending the big bucks on Cloke, I do intend going through the list & adding my thoughts, but this was posted after having a discussion at the game yesterday with 'Spirit'...

As to the bold text & format, I tried to change it but couldn't work out how to, so anyway go & blow it out your arse smart guy, I really don't give a F... what you think...

Good, I agree with you that we should be focusing on these types of players instead of spending millions in Cloke.

I'd prefer not to blow things out of my arse but thanks for the suggestion.

I haven't familiarized myself with the contractual situation on about 95% of these players, so, if somebody could put an asterisk on the ones signed, unsigned, etc., I would appreciate it.
I know Swallow and Bennell signed extensions earlier this year (I'm not 100% sure for how long) - apart from those two, there aren't many other players listed here I would rather have than Travis Boak.

A couple of players I would target, Sam Day, Josh Caddy, Dion Prestia, Lynch,Hoskin- Elliot, Nick Haynes, Taylor Adams, Toby Greene, Devon Smith, Liam Sumner... A mixture of Big guy, mids ( inside & out) amongst these boys... The big one to chase, but I reckon GWS would not let him go is, Cameron...

ok, nobody will be required to blow anything out of their own arses, the bolding has been fixed. o_O

It will be interesting to see if the club tries to work Petterd into some sort of trade with GC for a kid who possibly wants to come back to Victoria. RP comes out of contract which takes leverage away from us but if he does want to go and they co-operate something could happen.

Tl;Dr

But I understand your sentiments DR and agree. Would love to poach some young GWS players who would be coming out of contract this year but the fact is most of the young ones come out of contract in 2013.

The only ones this year I think are:
Curtly Hampton
Shaun Edwards
Stephen Clifton
Anthony Miles
Jonathan Giles
Jacob Townsend
Tim Mohr
Mark Whiley
Kurt Aylett
Sam Schulz
Josh Bruce

The rest are all the veterans like Junior, Cornes and Brogan.

As for the Suns, the ones this year are:

Maverick Weller
Alik Magin
Lewis Moss
Hayden Jolly
Matthew Warnock
Piers Flanagan
Josh Toy
Tom Nicolls
Charlie Dixon
Danny Stanley
Josh Caddy
Taylor Hine
Jack Hutchins
Sam Iles
Josh Wilkinson
Nathan Hall

Rookies
Michael Coad
Kyal Horsley
Josh Hall
Andrew McQualter

Thanks Syrus, I thought they were given 2 years initially, that would mean end of this season? Even so, there are some good players listed by you...

Honestly, who on the above lists would you chase to recruit?

Caddy, Weller & Giles. With the last two extremely unlikely to leave their clubs

Maybe Toy, but that would be based on his junior reputation rather than his AFL exposed form.
The rest are battlers & I think MFC would be better looking elsewhere.

Reckon Shaun McKernan from the Crows could be a good one. Seems to be on the outer with Tippett, Walker preferred as key forwards and Jacobs/Jenkins preferred as ruckmen. Still only 21, 196cm, 99kg. Not a world beater, but would be really handy as a big bodied target up forward (assuming Watts stays back) and relief ruckman for Jamar if needed. From Victoria so might want to come home?

Also Koby Stevens from the Eagles.

Similar strategy to the Tigers picking up Houli, Grigg, Maric should be adopted to make immediately impact and not considered "too old". Target teams with good depth putting players on the outer. See Josh Kennedy (Syd). Decision making ability highly regarded.

Good option I reckon The Dr. The club bolstered its tall stocks with Sellar and Clark last year, but I think an extra forward capable of rucking is definitely worth a thought. I don't think Spencer is going to make it, Fitzy I have a lot of hope for but a lot of water to go under the bridge before we know whether or not he'll make it. Ditto Cook.

I don't know much about McKernan, but he's no spud. It also frees us up a bit to go hard at midfielders and crumbing fwds in the draft(s) this year, which I really think we need to.

like the discussion, well worth reading hopefully the recruiters

are doing all this them selves,

He's not as good at either role than Martin though

Looking at other clubs lists these are the guys that for a variety of reasons (injury, form, pecking order) haven't had opportunities and that may be of value to us, along with what shouldn't cost the earth.

Feel free to add to each club's lists:

Adelaide: Andy Otten, Shaun McKernan
Brisbane:
Carlton:
Collingwood:
Essendon: Kyle Reimers
Fremantle: Dylan Roberton, Michael Walters, Jayden Pitt
Geelong: Tom Gillies

Dave Astbury is an interesting 1.. I grew up playing footy nd cricket with him at Tatyoon.. he's a couple of yrs younger than me but played all his junior sports wit my bro.. has good size now and has a great footy brain, may be a touch slow thou.. has only missed a heap of footy due to injury but is loved by Dimma and he loves Richmond..
Although he was a Melbourne supporter until he was drafted

Blues - Jeff Garlett

GC - Josh Caddy

Bris - Drew Banfield

Port - Jacob Surjan

Brisbane can keep Drew Banfield thanks :p

I'll add -

Shannon Byrnes from Geelong. A little on the older side, but a good stop gap for the mean time. Geelong have a history of helping their p[layers get to a club who offers them more opportunity, so could very well be done with a 4th round pick or something similar.

Jared Polec from Brisbane - Only seen glimpses, but what he has shown has been good. Brisbane probably don't want to let him go, but he hasn't been getting a great deal of opportunity up there.

Aaron Cornelius from Brisbane - Another one who has shown glimpses but not cemented a spot. Can mark the ball well, but sometimes struggles to get involved in games.

I'll put in a second vote for Drew Banfield - well worth a look in I think. Plus if Bate gets delisted we need to replace him with another Ranga!

Kirk Ugle from the Pies - Only been there for a year, but can't much opportunity. Might want more of a go somewhere else.

Mitch Brown from the Cats - Another one who is lacking opportunity. Cats probably wouldn't want to let him go, but might chase some opportunity, but might also cost too much.

Simon Hogan from the Cats - see above.

Mitch Duncan - See above

Liam Anthony from the Kangas - In and out of the team, but does some very good things. Also prone to the occasional brain fade, but he offers decent depth if nothing else.

Matt Campbell from the Kangas - Less annoying than his namesake commentator, and has very good skills. Seems to lack a little in the fitness department, and as a result struggles to get into games, but that can be fixed. Kangas fans thoroughly over rate him (like the rest of their list), but who knows what their football department think and what he would cost.

Big ones from the Saints are Montagna and Goddard - Obvioulsy worth a lot more than others in this list, but they do have well publicised salary cap issues, so a trade, whilst expensive, but be well accommodated by the Saints.

From the Saints rookie list is Cameron Shenton - Has played some really good games for Sandy this year. He is a mid-sized forward though, which we have plenty of, but if Bate, Dunn, Jurrah and Petterd are all gone, it opens up a window for someone.

Koby stevens from West Coast - see what everyone else has said.

The other Mitch Brown from West Coast - Lacks opportunity, and as a result I haven't seen much of him this year. Big wraps on him 2 seasons ago, but obviously hasn't continued down that road. Does anyone else know more about his recent form?

Tom Swift from West Coast - from potential number one draft pick at U16's level, to not being able to get a game when West Coast was last on the ladder, to struggling for WAFL form. Is from WA, but a change of environment might help him. Has good pace and decent skills, but seems lost in the WCE system.

Clinton Young from Hawthorn - Seems back in favour lately, but he seems to be Alistair Clarksons whipping boy at times. Would be great running down the wing for us.

Brad Hill from Hawthorn - Behind Mr. Delicious at the hawks for obvious reasons. Would be a walk up start into our forward line with what he has shown at times. Needs to find consistency, but even Steven Milne has struggled with that at times.

Amos Frank from Hawhtorn - Hawthorns answer to Aussie, but he seems dead set on having a long football career. Has really struggled to get onto a senior list, but his skills are fantastic. Needs to work on his fitness, but what he has shown at Box Hill this year has been very exciting.

Michael Walters from Freo - Has had disciplinary issues, but he showcased exactly what he is capable of against us on the weekend. One that Freo probably want to retain, but if the offer was right you never know. Might cost too much if Freo do want to keep him though.

Also worth looking at from the VFL -

Michael Stockdale from Willy (formerly at Casey) - dashing rebound defender. Think Jarred Harbrow, but not as skillful, but that could be addressed if he was a full time footballer.

Matt Little from Bendigo - under-sized KPF, but could provide a good third option if our mid sized forward stocks are delisted.

Adam Cockie from Sandy (formerly West Coast) - had all the attributes of an AFL player apart from the commitment at West Coast. Seems dead set on getting a second chance.

Carl Peterson from Northern Blues (formerly Hawthorn) - See above

Chris Cain from Port Melbourne - Not too sure about him myself as a I haven't really noticed him, but a few other people are raging about him. Someone else give us some more info if you don't mind!

Dean Galea from Port Melbourne - Anyone who saw Casey play Port 2 weeks ago has seen the best of this guy. Can absolutely dominate a game of VFL footy, however is undersized for a KPP at AFL level. But he does seem to absolutely love a contest. Is also prone to going missing sometimes, but again - worst case is he bolsters Casey and we have something to cheer for.
