Doesn't necessarily seem like a big challenge to make that guy look stupid, but it was certainly entertaining :thumbsu:
Ha yeah! I thought you were talking about Howard before watching it. I guess he did good with that issue. :)

The guy is obviously a moron, but the causal argument in favour of Howard's gun control laws is not quite as cut and dried as the presenter makes out.
That doesn't make the point he's trying to make any less valid does it?

I wouldn't have thought so.

It would be a logical step if people were serious about reducing gun related deaths/injuries in the US. I don't think anyone would suggest it would eliminate them though.
Again, whether there's a causal relationship between Howard's gun laws and reduced gun violence in Australia is hugely debatable. The presenter just assumes there is, because it suits the joke.

This is the problem, TDS is a comedy show but a huge number of people actually treat it as a source of information. You have to remember that they're just playing off stuff that's topical for laughs.

I'd like to see the evidence that suggests otherwise.

You're the one who said it's debatable whether or not the decrease in gun related crimes was a result of Howard's policy. Show us the obvious coincidental evidence that proves it was not the policy but somehow an act of god.

Second sentence does not follow from the first.

Without derailing the thread too much, gun violence was already on the decrease prior to Howard's laws. There have been a number of reputable studies done, both in Australia and overseas, that question the assumption that the laws had a measurable effect. I can't link to them because I'm on my phone, but they'd be pretty easy to find via Google.

Probably why whenever I watch it, it's on the Comedy Channel...

Anyway, I'll just take your word for it shall I? The gun laws that were changed were amazingly significant..I can't imagine anything being done like that nowadays. It's hard to believe that there's no causal relationship there, especially when you don't write anything to support your claim.

Like I said, a quick Google will show up a couple of quite reputable studies that question the claim that there's a causal relationship. It's not as cut and dried as the interviewer makes out. Which is fair enough - he's a comedian, not a journalist, and there's no reason to let facts get in the way of a good joke.

We can have an in-depth discussion about it if you like, but I'd rather not do it via Tapatalk. Also this is probably neither the thread nor the forum for it.

Sad to say most of America agrees with him. Very sad state of affairs. Guy clearly has absolutely no idea how about anything. 4.30 exemplifies this.
