AFL Grand Final Process for Eligible Members Grand Final Tickets

I have a priority 1 adult membership and 2 priority 2 childrens memberships. With the ‘1 in all in’ system, would having 2 xs priority 2 childrens memberships lodged with my priority 1 - mean my priority 1 couldn’t go through in the first allocation (held back by the priority 2s)? I hope that makes sense.

Yes, so you’d have to register at the P2 time; and if any of the P2s were to miss out all of you would because it’s one out all out.

Correct but you only pay for catogary ticket allocated

So we nominate a category but if we don't get that category we might get into standing room tickets?

Or if our nominated category is full we get options into the other categories then standing room?

FWIW I'd imagine it's unlikely that P2 members who want to go will miss out because of our lower membership numbers and the need to travel. It's possible even all P3 will get tickets.

Ok, am i clear in understanding the below ?

If you are a member with september member benefits ( Priority 1 ) and you register on Thursday as per the requirement on all categories you will 100% get a ticket, category unknown but you do get 1 ?

I don't think you can nominate a category at all any more.

You choose either best available, or best available without standing room seats.

The only thing category affects is ultimately what you get charged - they fill up the team's C1 allocation, then C2, then so on down, so whereever you end up falling in the ballot is where you'll be seated and charged.

Basically yes.

Yep that's been my thinking all along; only risk being if you're a P1 and you hold out for the latter allocation you prob end up nosebleed instead of a decent seat; offset by the fact you are actually there. Possibly doesn’t even work like that, I.e. P1s get better seats, but you’d think if you’re picking ‘best’ and you’re in line first you’ll actually be getting ‘best’.

On a different note I see on social media (Facebook) people have been asking for/giving others their barcodes. Befuddling why people would do that; barcode doesn't change so whoever they give it to has ample opportunity to use it again.

The way I think it works based off Ticketek's emails and seeing what others have gotten is that Category 1 and P1 tickets go into a pool and are pulled out randomly until either the category or the priority pool is used up (probably category initially, but at some point priority will be empty). Then it goes to the next category or priority until the next pool is used up, and so on down until either all applicants have tickets and the remainder are released, or all available tickets are used up and the remainder miss out.

Its an interesting one as I'm P1 but most/all the people I go to the footy with are P2 - do I opt to sit with them instead but run the risk of a crappier seat?

Correct you can not nominate a category.
But my understanding is they will process them starting P1 then P2 then P3. But they guarantee nothing
So if you are P1 you likely get a dearer seat but not necessarily top price

This from Lions regarding bolded
however we strongly recommend all members select Option 1 – ‘I will accept the best available ticket – including Standing Room’ at the time of registering to retain (P1) access to a Grand Final ticket.

Hard when you may have to choose to stay together or split
If someone else is a P1 in group and it is your 1st GF maybe split up
Most likely you travel together and stay at same place so not as if you won't see friends
Decisions decisions

I remember this type of thread in 2020
We were all pretty excited to be in a PF
Lots of anticipation, discussion, booking accommodation, airline bookings etc

We played on Saturday 17th October at the Gabba but were comfortably beaten 42-82
We also played the Cats that night so it is time for revenge
Maybe we are a better team in September than October

So there is a chance, that even if you are priority 1, if you pick no standing tickets, you get allocated a standing ticket and therefore forfeit?

I wouldnt imagine they would be allocating the same amount of standing tickets to other categories. Would have to be on a ratio as there wouldn't be the same amount of tickets in each category.

Interesting anomaly in the ticketing - there are no kids tickets only concession.

We have 2 spare children's memberships that are category 2. I am going to let me sister and her son use the barcodes as she is a student. It seems as though that will mean she can effectively go using a child's membership. It feels too good to be true but i can't see anything that would stop her getting in? Has anyone ever done similar?

But why would you tick option 2.
The club clearly states option (1) is what you should choose if you want to "retain (P1) access to a Grand Final Ticket "

  1. I will accept the next best available ticket – including Standing Room
  2. I will accept the next best available reserved seat – no Standing Room

When you say Category 2 do you mean Priority 2
Have you received an email from club stating you are Priority 2 and eligible to register for GF tickets

Regarding prices. There is no childrens price for the GF. Only Adults and Concessions
My opinion is your "child membership" would be now in the concession price category which i assume is a bit higher than a norman childrens price.
The barcode should reflect that at the time of processing
Check with the club if you are unsure.
Also check with club about swapping tickets

Yes priority 2.

I had the same reading as you - that it's actually more expensive for Children to attend as concession. But if you bought a children's membership and attend as concession it's a better deal. Guess it evens out.

Re swapping tickets, the tickets don't have any name attached to them so don't see how it would be an issue, unless i am missing something?

Agree with the above.

I'm not even sure at the time of purchasing a "child " ticket on the back of their membership entitlements under concession pricing how you would know if a adult actually used the ticket to scan in ?

I think the scanner can light up a different colour for concession, and they could ask for proof? Not sure though

Disclaimer: no evidence for this.

I've assumed standing ticket is last contingency, Category 7 etc. We wouldn't have enough Priority 1 members to use up everything to that degree.

From the table I can find, basically all full members are Priority 1? Is there still a September Member power up or has that been disabled?
I’m a full member (only 3 years now) and Priority 2.

Yes there is September membership.
