Would anyone know where I can find a list of players who started at a club, joined another club then returned to their original club? Gary Ablett Jr and Chris Heffernan are two I can think of. Anyone else?

Dayne Beams, Corey McKernan and Adam McPhee. And I guess Justin Murphy too, even though Carlton wasn't his original club but he did go back after a year at Geelong.

Heath Black, Brad Wira, Josh Carr

Maurice Rioli (maybe).

Rioli signed with the Swans during the Great Edelstone Purchase in 86. There were the photos of him in a Swans jumper with his new teammates etc. Anyway, there were contract issues, a standoff etc (maybe the VFL just said 'You know Doc, we are trying to have some rules' - the salary cap was brought in 1987).
Anyway, Rioli did not play the first 10 or so games in 1987, and then re-appeared for the Tigers - now wearing No 27, rather than 17.

In the parable 'prodigal' means extravagant or careless. After becoming destitute, the son has to return cap in hand to ask forgiveness from his father and be willing to humble himself to work as servant to redeem his good name.

It fits James quite well when you think about it.

does David Parkin get a run? He's a great of two clubs.

Hawthorn as a player and coach. Won two premierships (one each as player and coach). Coached Carlton to 3 premierships in two stints - two in the first, sacked and coached fitzroy, returned to win a third with the Blues in the second. Then returned to hawthorn as coaching director and oversaw the pivotal 2001 draft.

I still lol that salmon is in hawthorns team of the century. Not because he wasn't good, but because his years at the hawks were clearly his twilight as he was on the way down yet they still apparently didn't have anyone else
They may have been his later years in the 30s but Salmon was fantastic moved more into the ruck for Hawthorn and still played 100 games there.

Corey McKernan

My fav was the GAJ one. Came back just to syphon more money from Geelong. Priceless 🤣
