Do you think the AFL are doing a good job?
Personally, i think they are doing OK, but they could do a lot better.
IE, promoting the SFL matches at Swans matches. For the Sydney AFL Record, the inside cover, should have a list of all Sydney AFL Clubs. The centre page (where the team lists are) should have a list of all SFL matches for the upcoming weekend. And there should also be a 4 page write up on the SFL.
The same should be done in Queensland for the QAFL (it may already be done).
Another rule i think they should introduce, is for interstate teams to require 20 players from their home state in the side.
In 1999, both Brisbane and Sydney had under 10 players from their respective states in the 40 man squad. West Coast, Freo, Adelaide and Port all have 30-odd players from their respective states in their side, and still do in 2001.
This year, Queensland are doing better with 19 (a very good sign), but Sydney are still lingering, and i don't think are in double figures yet (if they are, they aren't very far into double figures).
Although at first Sydney may be a little weaker, they will be much better of in the long run, as it will give local players something to aspire to.
And just because they may have a few players in their squad who aren't up to the standard, it doesn't mean the Swans have to pick them in their squad.
Also, as the Kangaroos seem to be moving to Sydney, maybe they could be required to have 10 NSW players in their side. Currently, the only have 2 - Wayne Carey and Mark Hilton.
I understand they are pooring heaps of money into the promotion, and they are doing an allright job. But there are little things, which cost nothing, that they are failing to do.
What do you guys feel they could do to promote the game in these areas?
