Well given the ratings you are one of a minority.
Kind of my point actually. ABC and SBS gives us quality information rather than sleazy entertainment.

Just as vote-grabbing poll-driven politics does not ensure good government policy, nor does ratings-driven programming ensure good television.

Well given the ratings you are one of a minority. On a list of the 100 most wasteful items of govt expenditure SBS would have to make the top 3. Just another example of the govt stealing money off tax payers to feed the multicultural industry. If Howard was half the conservative you people think he is then he should make the place commercial tomorrow and let it sink or swim.
Given it takes heaps of adverts nowadays I wonder if that expenditure is getting any less?

I'm just a pom and I love SBS. Sad they lost the premier league highlights show though.

Medders since you pay no tax you don't really have a say do you?

No issue at all with that. However, if you want to watch the SBS I would prefer you pay for it (or advertisers pay for it) rather than the vast majority of taxpayers being fleeced for something they never watch.

I just checket, they are limited to 5% ads. So 6 mins an hour.

I am confident that if you ran a public poll you would find most people support SBS.

This makes me wonder. If the ABC is supposedly pro Labour and I believe they are... what were they like with Hawke and co in years ago.?

It's just dependant on the people employed, Unfortunately or fortunately it seems, that the ABCus is left wing for the moment. Perhaps a democratic process of those who wouldnt' get jobs at the commercial stations because of their political bias? Musing as usual. :p

I think the ABC genuinely has a go at the Government for acting like tools., which with all govts happens fairly often. It is just that after so many years people assume they just have a go at the Libs. I'm sure in the Labor years the ABC is not just a be nice to labor festival.

this is further proof if any was needed that the national broadcaster is in league with the pink side of politics......it's an absolute disgrace and i dont want my taxes paying for this blatant political bias!!!

Listeners to ABC 936 in Hobart were chilling out to Jet's tune Look What You've Done during the Tim Cox program yesterday morning, when the song suddenly dropped from the airways and a familiar voice was heard to remark: "I tell you what I do know – this country is doomed for the next three years; absolutely doomed!" It was quickly back to Jet before Cox introduced his next guest, ABC sport commentator Ross Solly, on the line from Canberra. An obviously embarrassed Solly tried to suggest his reference to three years of doom was a jibe at Coxie's tenure on Tassie's prime radio show.
It should be noted that this is proof of unprofessional broadcasting. Not of blatant political bias.

They may have had the cricket back then, but it was probably before Hawke. :)

If I dont pay tax then could you kindly ask the ATO to send back my BAS return which included a PAYG instalment in it. Given they have cashed the cheque I take that as an indication that I am paying tax and will have to continue doing so even though my earnings in Oz are limited (I could always put a variation in, then be out 10% and get a hefty fine).

Besides, if that's your view I take it you dont think anyone on welfare should get a vote either?

Admittedly the coverage leans to the left a fair bit currently. But like Q said, I think it's more the fact that they criticise the sitting government rather than any particular party.

Besides, you can't knock the Chaser boys. Best Political Satire on TV at the moment.

Medders have you been emailing SBS again? I was watching the end of "insight" last night and they had lots of feedback on the election forums they have been running in past few weeks. The last one was something like:

"This show is rediculous. Communists. SBS is ythe biggest waste of taxpayers money and the first theing the Government should do is close it down." (not an accurate quote, but the emphasis is there. Made me smile.

I'll pay for SBS and ABC when I get my taxes back for not using Hospitals or schools. I don't go to school, I don't have kids go to school - so why should my tax dollars go towards funding schools.

How about instead of worrying about how much tax funding is used for these stations you just pretend that your tax dollars are going to fix roads and hospitals. I'll pretend mine are used to fund ABC and Defence force. Deal?
