Have had 2 exams in the past 24 hours and to get a slight bit of downtime got sucked in via procrastination into watching the last quarter of what will just about forever be my favourite game of football (2013 prelim) on youtube.

Of course no Hawthorn fan needs to be reminded of the significance of this night. 20 points down at 3 quarter time, lost 11 in a row to those f***ing p****s, huge disappointment of '11 and '12 all riding on our back. The three peat would obviously never have happened and I am sure the psychological demons had we not won would've had a huge effect on our '14 and '15 campaigns. It is without a doubt for me the most significant victory a Hawthorn side has had in the past 15-20 years since the merger game.

Anyway the point of this is to have a look at Mitch's post match interview with Richo (31:20). His first line. "The end of one chapter and the start of something new".

And here we are 2 and a bit years later talking about one of the greatest teams of all time. Happy viewing :)

We were never going to lose the 2013 Prelim.

Poor Geelong ...

I seem to remember most Hawks fans on Bigfooty had given up the ghost - go and read the game day thread. I remember in the last quarter, with about 12 mins left, a Collingwood fan saying that a good last 10 or so minutes and we could still do it. He was virtually the only one who hadn't given up. (P.S. I hate Collingwood!)

This is the kind of thread you want after threepeating. Sammy = Gandolf

Was it during this game Sammy the Grey became Sammy the White?

Hang on - Burgers is Gandolf. I'm confused...

I was at the game, and at thee quarter time, we were discussing the fact that Geelong had had a couple of lucky goals and the luck only had to even up for us to be right back in the game.

I thought we had played well, and were really on top in the game.

Although I just didn't know that Burgoyne would slip into his Superman suit!

I think Geelong were BS lucky in a lot of those curse games. How often were we peppering the goals at the end and just missing? Even in the prelim we failed to put them away...it was great to see the agony on their faces when Varcoe's shot sailed right... :D A bit of luck our way :D

I remember thinking if we lose this we are done with this group. Tom Harley saying in the last quarter Hawthorns reputation/dynasty is on the line...the rest is history

Best game I have ever watched. It was the game that changed everything.

Old Tom wasn't too talkative at the end. Chappy in the change rooms, LOL. Pods looked like he was going to cry. Selwood being gentlemanly and not shaking anyone's hand. Classic! :D

It really was the game that changed everything. The monkey has been torched.

I don't believe in destiny or anything like that, but if there was ever an occurrence of it, the 2013 prelim was it.
After grabbing the game that really mattered in 08, we suffered through 11, often heartbreaking losses were they regularly came from behind in the last.
It took until the next time a game really mattered for us to win, ironically coming from behind in the last.
It was fate. As one poster said, 'we were always going to win that'. Sure didn't fee like at the time though :p

One of my favourite games. Was nearly conceding at 3/4 time too.

Was sitting front rowish circa N53. Once the ball got out on Geelong's flank in front of the Southern Stand I went mad. Stood up screaming at the bay I was in ('we've got them!'). Up there with 07 elim and that win against North in 99 out at Waverley for favourite non GF moments.

I chucked the controls in a tanty and walked outside for 5 min after the bullshit Geelong goal after the missed out of bounds on the full. When I switched back and Caddy kicked that goal I started freaking out but loved last quarter plays from Stratton, Hale, Mitchell and Burgers and the view of Selwood going to his knees.

Remember when Selwood threw a tanty and claimed they wooz robbed despite Hawthorn having an extra 10 scoring shots and belting them systematically in general play...

Shit captain, no wonder the shit truck has an abysmal record in games that matter (1-4 as captain in finals)

That shit was so bad for the ticker.

Still find it hard to believe that TV missed a bread and butter shot like that one and we were through.
