There' s forty-something players on each AFL club's list. For the players that aren't in the team from week to week, what do you expect the guys to be doing if there's no state league to play in during the AFL season??I'm always incensed when people say 'stupid' and don't necessarily provide a reason why.
It would be far move cost effective to move the state leagues to the summer then establishing new clubs as an expansion of the NT league, these new clubs will need to be propped up for years until they establish themselves. It is far easier to use the state leagues where the infrastructure already exists as well as a dedicated fan base.
So instead of competiting with the AFL, they'll be competiting with soccer, cricket, general summer activities (beach, holidays, etc).I think the important point of this idea is that it takes the state leagues out of competition with the AFL for supporters and broadcasters. This means more people will go to state league games and these clubs will become financially stronger.

That is one reason but another is they want the season to be at the same time as the European one.The only reason the Soccer season is on during the summer is because if they go head to head with Football and Rugby during the winter they wouldnt last one season before folding.
I have the answer.
Would have to get at least a few thousand to the games hey ....
- All games played in Melbourne Etihad undercover to beat the heat.
- Modified rules
- 1 team per state ie: Perth pr0n Stars, Adelaide Angels, Melbourne MILF's, Queensland Hotties, Sydney Scarlet's, Tassie Teasers, NT Nymph's and the ACT XXX's
- All girl teams of course wearing not much at all.
- 4 quarters of 15m each with a strip show at halftime.
- Cheaper tickets
C'mon VLAD make it happen!

AFL 9's would be the way to go. Smaller ground, faster pace, more scoring. Games would have to be under an hour as this is good for TV and deals with the heat issue.
One of the big problems with football is that it is a seasonal sport, it does not get exposure all year round and even when it is played in winter the season is relatively short when compared to other sports like soccer (off memory the english premier league goes for 38 weeks).

Actually this is one of the problems with other sporting codes.
The AFL has the number of games just right, most of the other sports, particularly soccer, baseball, and basketball suffer from oversaturation and too many meaningless games.
That's why any summer league should have distinctively different flavour.
I take it you are a fan of Lingerie Bowl in the US?

As much as I miss footy at this time of the year, I don't wanna see footy at all during the summer. The more you miss footy, the more appreciate it during the season I think.
