Our list has become too strong and with full strength is leaving me with 4-5 guys i’d like to see play, miss out.

I miss the 2016-2017 days when it was Pendlebury, Sidebottom, Treloar and the other guys in the 22 ;)

I sort of think of who is in and out using the GF team as the starting base point.

It’s realy really really tough to pick. We have a huge depth of good medium level talent in particular.

So taking into account who MUST come in:

Beams is just in, the most obvious of obvious.

Elliott is a must in too.

Moore is a must in too.

For me, those three are certainties.

Hence three must go out, which might be by position or which three are expendable (at least in ways)
AND injury ofcourse.

The obvious is injury outs:

Taylor Adams, Will Hoskin-Elliott.

They are replaced by Beams and Elliott.

So one more in danger is Mr 100% competitor, but for me way too fumbling (especially forward) in Goldsack.
I really like him, but, and it’s a bit but, as a side isn’t it time we went past him?
This then leaves for me the vexed question who moves it for the full back in Roughead.
I assume Roughead plays as the rock down back with him also assisting in the ruck if required.

I’m suggesting Greenwood. Yes there’s Selwood but I’d rather give such a roll to Sier and Maynard, that kind of set up.

As a side note, Mihocek might find himself in danger if there’s a string of lesser games.

So for me:

In: Beams, Elliott, Moore, Roughead.
Out: Adams, Hoskin-Elliott (injured), Goldsack, Greenwood.

Round 1:

B. T Langdon ~ J Roughead ~ B Maynard
HB: J Howe ~ D Moore ~ J Crisp
C. S Sidebottom ~ D Beams ~ T Phillips
HF. J Stephenson ~ J De Goey ~ T Varcoe
F. J Elliott ~ M Cox ~ J Thomas
R. B Grundy ~ S Pendlebury (c) ~ A Treloar
I. B Mihocek ~ B Sier ~ C Mayne ~ J Aish

E. T Goldsack, L Greenwood, J Daicos, C Brown

Just for the excercise and for fun, here is our leftover players lined up in a seconds side.
Obviously the injured are included so Adams would certainly be in the firsts but this just shows the side not competing in my round 1 team.

B. M Scharenberg. L Dunn. F Appelby
HB. N Murphy. T Goldsack. I Quaynor
C. C Brown. L Greenwood. T Brown
HF. W Hoskin-Elliott. B Reid. J Daicos
F. B Crocker. R Wills. T Broomhead
R. M Lynch. D Wells. T Adams (c)
I. W Kelly. J Madgen. A Bosenavulagi. S Murray*

E. M Keane, A Toehill
That second team would still best Gold Coast at least.

HF. Thomas Mihocek De Goey
F. Stephenson Cox Elliott
R. Grundy Beams Treloar
I. Varcoe Greenwood Aish Mayne
E. Goldsack Sier C.Brown Daicos
This is pretty close, but for me I'd swap Sier for Greenwood. The back 6 plus Aish is pretty much set in stone.

Not sure I agree with Pendles on the wing and Sidebottom at HF.

I agree of course haha! Just felt even stranger naming Pendles at HF. Probably having Sier on the bench with Thomas at HF and the mids reading:
Sidebottom Pendlebury Phillips
Grundy Beams Treloar

May be more accurate

Good one.
I've just been told a Geelong dude was winding up a mate of mine and the toe thing probably isn't correct.
My apologies. I guess that's what keeps BF busy.
All good.

I just liked the foot fetish connection of tors I picked up, so I took a little toe poke at it, in good fun.

All good :)

Yep I'd agree generally, went Greenwood only due to the Selwood factor in first game. I like Levi, might be tough for him to string a lot of games together this year though

Looking at all the posted ideas of teams there’s quite a bit of commonality.

Seems the line ball players (some will be in, some will miss) by posters are:

  • Goldsack, Aish, Mayne, Brown C, Greenwood, Daicos, Sier.

There’s fare spots between those with even other considerations like Appelby, Murphy, but both very very unlikely by what we’ve seen in JLT selection.

Fascinating discussion will be had by the coaches next week.

B: 37.Maynard 23.Roughead 8.Langdon
HB: 25.Crisp 30.Moore 38.Howe

HF: 24.Thomas 41.Mihocek 2.Degoey

R: 4.Grundy 11.Beams 7.Treloar
INT: 14.Aish 19.Greenwood 16.Mayne 18.Varcoe

This looks really likely to me if they all remain fit.
Possibly Goldsack over Roghhead (but doesn't look like they're thinking that way)
Surely we can find a spot for Sier, but with Greenwood likely to play midfield on Selwood, over who?
Still got to try to squeeze in WHE,Adams and possibly even Wells if they get fit.

Really strong squad.

I reckon this pretty much nails the likely round 1 starting 22.

To me the spots up for battle are:

Roughead vs. Goldsack - Roughead most likely given his preseason form and the size of the Geelong forward line.

Greenwood vs. Sier - Greenwood most likely because Sier hasnt played JLT. Greenwood to tag Selwood. Reckon we'll miss Sier at the clearances and i'd be tempted to play him if his touch in the VFL game looked okay.

Howe vs. Murphy - This is probably a bit out there and I only raise it because Howes touch was so off vs. Carlton. He might need some time at a lower level to build some touch. Murphy by contrast looked assured. Doubt it will happen but i'd consider it as a short term move.

I also wonder if DeGoey is a certain lock given he didn't play JLT. Crocker or Brown might be the smokey for forward line but I hope De Goey gets up.

So this will be the side? We're actually going 25-0 this year

Historically over his tenure Bucks tends to pick a senior, experienced team first up. Then younger players gradually come in through form or injury.

So I'm expecting Mayne, Goldsack and Greenwood to play

Almost all posters here have Mihocek as a starter at CHF. I’m not sure I’m sold. Did well last year but we have a heap of forward line stocks. Perhaps it’s between him and Reid once (if...?) he gets fit? Or maybe CHF is just a difficult position to play...

Mihocek over Reid every day of the week.
Is just as strong in the air, covers the ground exceptionally better including ground level balls and isn't injury prone.

However, i wonder what the story is with Brayden Sier?
He'd be in our best 22 surely?
