Thanks for that.

I hope he dose well he is a good kid
Just want to backup further what EA said about AA, Evo. I didn't think he was too bad in first serious AFL hitout.

When he first got here last year he could not chase defensively and I remember one of the first things a group of us at Basso? discussed (when he was playing for EF) was that if he wanted to stay on the Eagles list he would need to learn to run defensively. By the end of the year he was doing that much better at Peel, although he was being played out of a pocket or HFF. When he got around the ball you could see what he could do and that was his best position. Knows where to go to find the ball, is not super quick (not slow either) which everyone seems to want in wingmen/flankers these days, but if they can get to the ball does it matter?

Hopefully he'll be given more time on ball at Peel this year, or develops into a very good flanker.

EVO I didn't think Ash Arrowsmith played as bad as what was previously stated.
I think he has improved ten fold from last year and has alsoput on some weight, he did some good things around packs and broke free from a few tackles, his use of the ball wasn't flash but he was under pressure most of the tim as well.
If he continue's to improve as he has in the last year he may make the main list 1 day.

Now as for Pro's and Con's
I have now watched the full game again and as I already knew the score I was focusing more on what each player was doing rather then what they could do.

Pro's that I didnt touch on B4:
* Arrowsmith has improved.
* Swift is coming along nicely, just needs a bit more endurance, got tired late.
* Nicoski was moving better then he has for a while.
* Sullivan showed he could compete with the second tier Ruckman.
* Cockie is ready to play.
* McGinnity looked good before getting wiped out.
* Glass moved better then he did all of last year
* Cox was great on a lead and looks to be moving fantastic.
* Kerr was fantastic when he was on the ground.
* Spanger's attack out of defence was great.

Con's:
Hurn- needs more fitness as he tired after the 3rd qtr.
Masten- Needs to be fitter to play the role he is.
Lynch- Not fit enough to play midfield this year and NO second efforts.
McKinley- Wasn't Applying enough pressure and wasn't working hard enough, Came across as a lazy game while playing forward.
Staker- Showed that his best position is Forward as he was kept quiet in the Midfield.
Seaby- Is below par for a starting ruckman at AFL level.
Skills- Terrible, couldn't hit targets by hand or foot and over ran the ball to often, and kicking on goal was again shocking.

The biggest CON of all is we don't get to see another game until round 1.:thumbsdown:
Because we got eliminated, there's a match down here in Bunbury on March 14th. I think that means the Eagles will be playing down here?

I was p!ssed at Seabys efforts Sat nite,(as with a lot of the guys) but then, after I cooled down and read a bit more from u guys I had a few thoughts.
Were the senior players there ONLY, to make up numbers and tutor the youngsters? The fact that Seaby was terrible, Lynch wasnt really trying, Cox rested on a bannana lounge in the forward line, Kerr played 47seconds of game time, McKinley was 'lazy', did that mean that the coaching staff told the senior players, 'Go easy and dont get hurt doing anything courageous tonite'???
I think with the model of approach to the NAB series by WCE lends itself to being interpretted this way.....
Young kids - go nuts and impress us, that may get you a crack at the big time.
Mid tier - you blokes better pull your socks up and have a good hit out so we can see if you will be replaced by the younger kids
Old stocks - dont go nuts, stay out of harms way, dont chase tackle and get a hammy.....
thoughts....

i think there may be an element of that creeping into the first or second nab cup matches with the older blokes. the eagles dont care too much about the cup and are really looking for conditioning in match conditions. so wont push themselves to their limits where they could injure themselves

but being professional sportsman and if you had a bit of pride about your performance it would be very difficult to play too poorly in front of your home crowd. pride would push you to go very hard and your natural competitive instinct.

seaby....he should give 100% because its A: the most game time he will probably get for the season and B: really should be looking to impress the panel and supporters with a solid game as the lead ruck to show his worth.

I said that the other day in another thread and there were many angry dissenters. I was a philistine for saying it.

Hurn is not exactly a veteran and i don't expect him to be dominating games for us yet but he has had nearly 40 games pumped into him and i don't remember a single one of them as being exceptional. I don't even remember him playing a single exceptional quarter in a game. Swift and Cockie showed more promise and had more impact in their first practice match on saturday than Hurn has in 3 years or whatever of being a regular player. Ditto Ebert and Masten in their first games last year. In fact even Seaby, Staker and Rosa, none of whom have gone to be anything significant, showed a hell of a lot more in their first few years than Hurn has. Not good signs.

I don't know if he is suited to half back. I think they are just forced to play him there as he is not fit enough to play anywhere else. I would rather see someone with pace and vision who can break lines and set up attacking plays in the future for us there, ala McLeod, Kennelly, Heath Shaw etc, being developed at HBF. They are far more valubale than a slow bloke with a big kick.
Re-writing history again member?

You actually included him in your list of "disgraceful flops" for 2008. It was then pointed out to you that he only played 6 games and was then ruled out for the year injured.

We get that you dont like him but you were howled down because of the "2008 disgraceful flops" comment. He completed 5 games and was injured in the 6th - you were wrong to label him a "disgraceful flop" given that. You will simply never admit that and you run around re-inventing your story.

Hurn was disappointing on the weekend and no doubt the jury is still out... but much of what you then regurgitate, has already been addressed. I mean Brownlow votes, the 11 goals in 24 games (2007) from a HBF - these suggest he has actually provided something and been a good player.

We get that you dont like him but, the "disgraceful flop" comment remains ridiculous and suggests you are incapable of rational discussion regarding Hurn. It also goes to show that you wont ever concede an error on your part - despite overwhelming evidence....

Re Hurn, legs look like they are well muscled and strong, first game back so all of his abilities are going to be rusty, fitness, kicking, disposal and being involved in the game. Its been a looooong time since he has played.
Im willing to write this year off for Hurn, getting back into a struggling side might not be ideal to build up playing skills and confidence.

Certainly looks ok health wise, just under fit at the moment, Im sure the fitness guys will address that, with the new fitness regimen seeming to be comming up trumps.
Skillz coach needs lynching however:D

Thanks to everyone that replied about Ash.

Hard to get updates about West Coast here.

I hope he makes it as well. Was hard to pick up with all his hair gone and the new bigger build

Cheers

Ugh.

I won't bother...
Mitch if that was the worst thing I said about Masten then it shows he had a pretty good game>???
Fact: The longer the game went on the scrapier his kicks were (tired legs) and his handpasses wern't hitting their targets ( sore Arms) he struggled to kick the ball 45 mtrs when he was shooting on goal late in the game, So if in his second year he takes a role in the midfield as Important as the inside man then he will need to be fitter then what he is, as he will need to run the games out.
Its a statement built on fact, You need to be one of the fittest players on the team to play this role and at the moment he is Not. I know he wont play it as much as he did against collingwood cause of A.Selwood, Butler, Priddis, Stenglein and who ever else go's through the midfield giving him time off the ball as well. I just thought he was fitter then he is.:thumbsu:
