A close mate of mine (yeah yeah, I know) is in his mid 20s and a virgin. There's no real reason why - he's nothing to complain about looks-wise and is a nice guy, but he is pretty introverted and hasn't dated much. He's a massive nerd (nuclear physicist, kid you not) and kind of a workaholic. His only longterm relationship was at uni with a fairly religious girl for several years.

Anyway, he's decided he's well past the age where any potential girlfriend/wife is going to expect him to have done the deed and be mildly proficient at it. Being a coldblooded logical sort of chap he's considering a few sessions at an upmarket knocking shop to get him up to speed.

Now, aside from the fact that even talking about this with a mate is hugely uncomfortable, the whole idea seems creepy. My view is that any girl who likes him is going to accept him anyway, and if he really wants to get laid he should do it the old fashioned way (get out on the lash and pull). He views it as more like driving lessons, and says he doesn't want to pull a normal girl 'just for sex' and end up using her.

Am I just being prejudiced? Aside from it being ew, I also have moral objections to the sex trade in general (subjugation of women, links to organised crime, health risks).

Hey, don't get me wrong, I'll take the guy out and wingman the hell out of him to get him laid. This just seems gross though. And I don't know about you, but I'm kind of glad that when I lost my v-card it wasn't to an illegal immigrant working as a prozzie for a gangster. I don't want the dude to regret it.

Both, sort of. I guess I wanted to work out whether I have a legitimate argument that it's a bad decision, or whether I'm just being a prude. Like, if the sex trade is unsafe or linked to crime or the girls are coerced then that'd be a good reason against it. If someone came in here and said "yeah I did it and really regretted it because XYZ" that'd be a good reason.

Me just thinking it's icky is not a very good argument. I don't want the dude to make a bad decision, but I don't want to talk him out of it just because I'm prejudiced.
