Protests

Dutton is not a reliable politician to turn to for criticism of organizations like the CCP. End of.

Yeah I noticed the difference our cops didn’t go hard enough against these losers.

In Hong Kong they care and are fighting for freedom.

Here they are bored uni students living off cash in hand from mummy and daddy and Ausstudy which pays far too much. And are likely too stoned to remember why they are even protesting.

As for the cops, they are limp wristed institutions ruined by decades of meddling by social engineers. Bring back the days of batons first, questions if you could be bothered.

Can someone please explain the difference between police behaviour in Hong Kong and police behaviour at the mining protest in Melbourne yesterday?

I note that Dutton and Co. hate the Chinese police, but they love our police
The HongKong protestors are fighting for freedom

the protesters in Melbourne have nfi why they are there but only due to one of their woke friends or arts teacher is doing it

How do you think the Hong Kong kids protesting are being portrayed in China? I'd hazard a guess that it would be in a fairly similair manner to the one that you are describing the Melbourne protesters.

It was pointed out by Vicky Xu (on QandA) that the HK protestors treated people who 'needed to get somewhere' with a lot more empathy compared to the XR protestors in Australia.

She was quite respectful of the XR protestors right to protest as she tried to explain that point, saying that they could learn some lessons from HK.

I have to put this piece in by the massive CCP critic Clive Hamilton on the XR.

It's strange to compare citizens fighting for democracy and freedom vs citizens undermining democracy

How are they are undermining democracy?

There is a lot less difference between China and Australia than you think. Including the level of freedom, surveillance, human rights, on and on. And what gap there is is getting smaller.

Australia isn't engaged in ethnic cleansing like China and India are currently.

Arguably we have been involved in our share of ethnic cleansing since Cook
If we are allowed to go back that far we will find twice the current population of Australia of Chinese corpses during their great leap.

Right now, currently, Australia is nothing like China. They are rounding up their Muslims, harvesting organs, spending a fortune to steal the best technological ideas from around the world then selling it back to them cheaper and poisoning the planet with their emissions.

They're developing countries still, we got our ethnic cleansing mostly out of the way by the turn of last century.
I don't mean any offense by this, but in your lifetime the Chinese great leap forward has killed more people than there might have ever existed here before 1788. But because they are their own, they don't count, apparently.

when a group turns to illegal measures and force to achieve outcomes. The government often caves in, as the public eventually say "give them what they want, so we can get on with our lives".

Unions have successfully used these tactics in a variety of industries:

- shutting down schools
knowing full well, parents will have to stay home and look after the kids. Parents, then losing wages or holidays, will then say give them what they want, so I can go back to work

- shutting down public transport

these protestors have shut down public transport, roads and attacked industry. They know the govt will eventually pander to them. Essentially it becomes all about illegal activity and frustration of society rather than a democratic process regarding policy.

Hong Kong protesters shut down an international airport.

Again - what is the difference?

For starters you didn’t cop a live bullet.

And how is it undemocratic?

In a general perspective:

If a government removes or doesn’t provide a forum to redress grievance then terrorism, civil war and civil unrest against the government is reasonable.

As people are not slaves to a government.

FYI - forums are courts, electoral processes, ombudsman, secession process etc etc

The question as to whether the HK protestors are acting reasonably would require deeper analysis.

A smart person would simply flee HK as their protests are in vain. Unfortunately youth are often idealists rather than pragmatic.

China will let HK rot, allow honkies to leave in droves, shift Chinese military and family there, wait for the numbers to be right, then call a secession vote or more likely a one china vote.

China has stated they will crush bones rather than see individuals and communities having rights. China could never afford to have US military based out of HK. The only thing worse than that is losing face, of losing HK again to the west.

So we have a government with no significant energy policy. And a government with no significant environment policy. All they can talk about is some interim Paris agreement that they have had no hand in achieving and is irrelevant as there is zero chance of achieving the end target.

So in a democracy what are the people to do?

1/ protest
2/ wait 4 years to vote
