As much as I hate the Essenscum, they are a magnificent side this season and more than deserve to go all the way.
This is why I am proud to be a Blue. There was not a hope in the world of them winning yesterday, but Carlton still fought the game out with the tough, pressure football they have used so well this year.
They are a proud and honest club and I was pleased with their performance this year. My 260 onmemebership was most certainly not wasted. They had their ups and downs, but could never be disregarded.
Not to make excuses, but if we'd had SOS and Kouta firing we would have served it right up to Essedon and maybe beat em too. Taking a superb champion backman like Silvagni out is bad enough, but to lose the best player in the league these days out too...well we were stuffed before the game began.
Yet they tried hard, and I thought the game seemed to be a lot closer than the 45 point margin it eventually was.
However, I was not really disappointed. Sure, a win would have been great we did not have the manpower. The real disappointment was the Melbourne final we lost by 9. Carlton lost a Grand Final berth that day.
Yet congrats to Melbourne. They are underdogs, but they are a chance for upset victory. I am barracking for them because I always go for underdogs in games.
With the retirement of Braddles imminent, Silvagni injured the way he is and several great players out of contract, the Blues must now shift into gear and trade, trade, trade. They desperately need a quality backman, some more midfield pace, and a couple of goalkickers. I reckon if they can get a couple of quality players from other clubs and have Kouta firing again next year, they will improve. This hopefully means winning a Grand Final.
If not, I'll still be there week in week out. I love my footy, I love my Blue boys, and I am proud to be a Blue.
P.S.Go Kouta, Scotty and Rats for the Brownlow on Monday night. I'm going so watch for me on telly!
P.P.S.Good luck to the Essendon and Melbourne supporters this weekend (Yes, even you Dan.)
Julia.
