Auto/Manual?

My test was piss easy, got a chatterbox of a tester who was too deep in conversation with my instructor to pay attention to what I was doing. Passed first time with flying colours.

As with tips, take everything slowly (although don't fail for going too slow) and keep in mind that it is simply a random drive to nowhere. No need to rush, just take your time. Also CHECK YOUR MIRRORS repeatedly (not just a flick of the eyes either, move your entire head), every 5 seconds minimum, whenever you slow down, approach an intersection or are about to turn. Remember to headcheck as well (especially if there is a lane to your left with parked cars and you are turning left you must still headcheck).

Pretty much what Speck said.

Lots of headchecks and looking in the mirror, take it nice and slow, 5 k's under the speed limit.

Also be careful of school zones if you are doing it in the times when they apply.

Yeh mirrors all the time, and headcheck EVERY TIME you change lanes

Also at a stop sign, come to a COMPLETE STOP for 3 seconds (wait 4 seconds just to be sure)

Test is at 9:20, so I will have 10 mins of school zones. If I remember my head checks I think I will be right. I have just got to think of it as a normal drive and not be nervous.

I just hope I don't get a hard bastard. ;)

Yeah remember the school zones, and yeah sit back and relax. It's a very simple drive and you are told what to do very clearly.

Doing it with an instructor?

Manual and thanks Speck.

I heard that the reverse park/3 point turn aren't worth that much and the general driving around is worth the most. Is this right?

I only did auto so I can't help you on manual stuff. The reverse park is very dumbed down. You can literally almost go straight back (swing in a little but not anywhere near the curb), then forwards into the space and the curb. This is taking into account Victorian rules by the way (7m behind you, 2 minutes to do it, allowed 4 manoeuvres). Three point turn I didn't do but seems fairly straightforward, just remember to look all around you before you take off (including the opposite direction to where you are going to travel). Heard it's harder with a manual but I wouldn't know.

i failed my first time because i stopped at a stop sign for too long, just stay calm and treat it like a normal drive and you should be fine

Did it in a manual recently. In Vic the test is broken into two 20 min halves, in which you get 6 minor errors and 1 major error in each. 3 point turn/reverse parallel is at the end of stage 1. From what I could gather main things were constant mirror/head checks, wait for clear gaps in traffic for lane changes and make sure you have your indicator on well before changing, and remember to not change lanes when the line turns solid near an intersection, even if some idiot chucks their right hand indicator on at the last second.

Oh, and always chuck your indicator on when merging. Drive sensibly and you should be fine.

Remember that the whole test is an absolute joke and doesn't teach you anything about being a good or safe driver :thumbsd:.

Listen to instructions.

Only thing I remember from mine is the instructor asking if my then asian gf was my sister - I'm not asian...

Ive had to do it twice.

First time in an auto and had a hard marking old lady (from Burwood VicRoads) but concentrated and did everything pretty well. She only marked me down for going to slow.

For the second one (manual) my driving instructor was chatting the tester up the whole time so she didnt even pay attention to me and i got 100%

When sitting an exam for school do you expect to be taught anything?

The good thing about doing it twice you can learn from your mistakes from the frist time.
