Not in the same way as the 360.

When HOME comes out in a few months it's basically a new user interface/second life type world. From launch there will be gaming achievements, but it won't simple be a matter of completing something and earning "points" like on 360 - you will actually earn trophies and bonus features etc. because of it.

Home is going to be the gayest thing in the universe, if it is ever released. They announced an open beta in Nov/Dec 06. It's still closed. Sony must be worried about Linden suing them for bringing second life to consoles.

And there will be no guarantee that any games will actually support it. Developers don't like extra work.
Well 2 of the most popular games have already incorporated it into their games.

I am sure if Sony asks them they will do it, why would developers include features like that for XBOX 360 games?

What will make it so "Gay", firstly, are you a homophobe, because that is a pretty serious comment to make.

HOME will bring so many features to the PSN, so many features unavailable on the XBOX LIVE network, it will offer interactivity like never before, if you had a PS3 then I am sure you would be as hyped as anyone else who does, but because you own an XBOX 360 and can't get it you feel backed into a corner and have to justify why it could possibly be bad, not only will it be free unlike XBOX LIVE, but it will bring just as many features as XBOX LIVE.

Yeah it's not coming out.

Simple actual fact is that Sony don't want it released with bugs and huge chunks missing from the game, there will be an open beta come out within the next couple of months and it will allow for people to give their opinions and suggestions on what can and should be added to the game.

Why would Sony already have HOME out on exclusive consoles already but still be worried about getting sued.

HOME isn't like Second Life in so many aspects it's not funny, since when can you trademark the fact of making an avatar and having them walk around a virtual world?

Features? Like what? the ability to buy a DLC hatstand from Sony?

Yeah it's not coming out. !

Wow, I hope you got an infraction for that outburst :p

Fact is Sony are taking a ridiculous amount of time, to copy features that 360 users have been enjoying for a long time now, plus the ability to create a pretty little doll of themselves, and dress it up. I'd be psyched

Haha, if Sony asks them nicely

games developed for 360 have to pass certification standards, to make sure they support all of the features of LIVE. Sony has no such certification.

Sony have no certification because they don't have a system to implicate it in yet, anyway, Sony will bring In-Game XMB, which will be available in every game, and HOME will be almost assured of having all features in a certification type system.

Your words, not mine!

Being able to watch trailers, full movies, trophies and tons of other in game features.

Wow, I hope you got an infraction for that outburst :p
Last time I checked, you can't get an infraction for telling the truth.

Of course they are trying to copy features from XBOX LIVE, it is known to be the best, but the thing is if Sony can copy all those elements and add plenty of their own, the thing that remains is the fact that the PSN is 100% FREE, whereas XBOX LIVE cost's $$$.

It's not only about dressing up avatars or whatever, it is being in a virtual world and communicating with your mates, launching into games with them, playing the free HD arcade games, also these aren't the Arcade games of the ilk of XBOX LIVE, MUCH BETTER in fact!

Hmm, this is based on what information? Pretty big assumptions there considering this isn't even released yet, and your probably superficial knowledge of all things xbox.

I'd say the 360's live arcade gaming content probably exceeds your expectations. There's everything from arcade game HD remakes, retro console gaming remakes and virtual gambling, to complete downloads of xbox original games.

Added to the fact many of these home games will no doubt have to be purchased through the Sony wallet system, the content won't all be free.

Not trying to be argumentative, but that part of your post doesn't seem to based on very solid foundations...

You just have to look at the trailers to see what arcade games you can play on HOME, all of those games will be 100% free as they are in the HOME world.

Obviously I can't go into specifics as I don't have it but I can assure they will all be free and great.

But you can see where i'm coming from. You don't own a 360, and this Home hasn't even been released yet. Its a massive leap of faith for you to say its arcade content will be "MUCH BETTER IN FACT" than that on the 360, given that information. Its ok to be pumped up about its release but its probably better to stick with what we know for now.

I'm sure it'll be a massive improvement on the PSN network as it stands, which wouldn't be too hard lets face it. I'm sure there will be more info out soon, but Games such as Billiards and Bowling are the only arcade games i've seen reverenced in regard to Home, its hardly groundbreaking, XBL killing stuff.

This may be a stupid question and i think i no the answer but i have a plasma tv but it is not high definition, so would a high definition cable for the ps3 do anything to the picture or is it even possible to hook it up?

Yeah a HDMI cable will make it look much better, and if your TV can go HD then you should go out and buy one.

You can usually get one for about $30.

Fine, I will wait until HOME is in it's Open Beta stage, although even then it probably won't be complete.

There is much, much more than Pool and Bowling, there is a whole arcade area in which you can play arcade games.

Yeah thats my problem it can't go HD. Its a plasma but its an older plasma

Then you can't do anything unfortunately.

Until you get a HDMI compatible TV you won't be able to go HD with your PS3.

Well, it probably won't make much difference if you use the HDMI cable or just the regular AV cables.

Really though, I wouldn't buy a 360 or a PS3 unless I had a television that displayed 1080p. And as an owner of both consoles, I personally recommend the PS3 as the better purchase.

Thats pretty stupid reasoning, surely if your TV still went HD it would be a worthy buy, 1080p TV's are around $2000 at thats about the cheapest.

It will still display quite well at 720P. I imagine your TV will at least have component inputs, through which you'll get a better picture than just straight composite.

1080P TV's are pretty sexy in terms of picture quality, but i wouldn't worry too much about what Karl says, I've played plenty of high def games on a 720 display, and yes they aren't quite as sharp as 1080P obviously, but they still look pretty good. Saying stuff like "don't bother unless you have 1080P" is just being ridiculously elitist imo. Its not like you're using a crappy CRT display or something

lol, the guy just can't help himself, even when its totally irrelevant to the question.

The guy is quite obviously considering purchasing a next gen console. Please tell me how my opinion on which of the two, in a thread titled "PS3 Questions" in which many people have compared it to the 360, how that comment was irrelevant.

The guy already owns a ps3 ya drongo, thus why his asking the best way to attach it to his tv.

You don't need the dodgy sales pitch, this ones converted mate

My bad, I didn't see where he said he already had one.

Nothing dodgy about it mate, just offering an informed expert opinion courtesy of a completely unbiased individual who owns all consoles. It's funny how the only people who don't take my comments as pure gospel are the 360 owners who seem biased against the PS3 because of an inferiority complex over it's superiority.

I hope you actually mean crappy CRTs and not CRTs in general.

because in terms of response, colours, contrast and black levels, my Super Fine Pitch Sony CRT will murder any available flat panel display. It has its negatives ie it weighs close to 90kg and it's only 32' screen, but in terms of picture quality you need to spend serious money to better it and LCDs and Plasma (even the latest Kuros) can't really touch it.

By crappy CRT i mean your average crt screen most people had pre plasma/lcd.

640x480 resolution was standard.

Before i had my current 42 inch 1080P LCD i gamed on a high quality, relatively new 68cm Sony Wega flatscreen. The difference between how my 360 looked on that, and how it looks now on a 1080P LCD is just not even worth talking about Sean. It was like a blind man getting his cataracts removed.

2 points of light that were very close together used to just look like a blur on crt. They're discrete, easily definable points now. You can't expect to more than half the resolution and retain the same sharpness.

High res CRT's are a reality, but you'd need to rob a bank to afford one
