PS3 Technical woes

From what I've heard if it's still in warranty, yes you get it fixed for free, but if it isnt then you gotta pay like $200 or something.

Oh and before you give me the bullshit about waiting 5 days to post this between when you posted, I was away for a long weekend with the wife and kids. Nice trip. Didn't have access to the internet though whilst I was there, hence I didn't see this post.

Hey i just fixed my YLOD the other day after Sony wanted $350 or something to fix it (out of warranty).

Its fairly easy, the thermal paste sony used on the fats is shit, which is a shame because other than that its one of the best built devices ive ever seen. You just need to open it up, clean the old shit off, heat up the two chips, put new stuff on and put it back together. Seriously if you take your time then its piss easy.

If your not scared shitless at the prospect of opening it up, (if your out of warranty then youve got nothing to lose) i can provide videos, pics and talk you through it. Send me an email 6944132@swin.edu.au

PS the 350 wasnt to get mine fixed, they were gonna send me a refurbed one thats been god knows where

Yeh i found out the problem was to do with the thermal paste on the cpu and thought about doing it myself. Then I found a series of youtube vids detailing how to fix the problem and thought it was too much effort (bad timing as well as i was trying to solve an overheating problem with my laptop, but thats fixed now). So then I went to see if I could find a third party company to do it for me in melbourne and found a company called AusGameStore and they do this sort of thing.

After I found out about them, I got a phone call from my dad telling me that the ps3 was under an extended warranty from harvey norman and it ended last wkend. So I (foolishly) thought i would give it a go to see if they could fix it for free, but the bastards put me through to sony (situation i was trying to avoid) and now its with them.

Yeah, I just had to do a similar thing on my GH drumset. Although that was made activision of course.

They need to source some better glue manafacturers it seems.
