I’m not disputing that it was a late call (55 seconds, not 90), but all the commentators etc who seem to think it was completely over the line before Marshall controlled it.

What footage are they watching!?
You understand the camera is in the middle of the post and not in line with the ball, right?

Regardless, once the ball's in play, the Arc shouldn't be able to overrule anything. That's what we were told with the incorrect lasso free kick paid to Geelong early in the season v Adelaide(?)

Honestly, I watched the game today, and when Marshall took the Mark and immediately remonstrated towards the Goal Umpire that he'd marked it - I was actually waiting for it to be reviewed.

I was shocked when it wasn't.

Then 40 seconds laters, I literally thought to myself 'it'd be hilarious if they called this back after this long....'.

So when they actually did that, I wasn't shocked at all. I was pretty much expecting it.

It seemed quite logical to me.
So they need to call everything back when a player remonstrates with an umpire now?

I think for Goal line decisions it can. I think that was in response to the Adelaide-Sydney debacle from a couple of years ago.

90 seconds later?

When the person in the Arc doesn't even understand the camera is on an angle to begin with?

Game's completely ****ed if some idiot at HQ watching on TV can just make them go back a full minute and a half because he didn't study geometry at school.

Uhh, the goal line view?

Just wait until a Grand Final is decided by this almost child-like, simpleton, imbecilic idea. I really wonder at times if the AFL at admin levels is actually full of Dunning Kruger sufferers, unaware of just how idiotically stupid they really are.

No one ever seems to be able to project forward with any basic common sense on what possible affects their changes might have on the game in multiple play situations. They only seem to be capable of thinking at the most basic shallow level of how a change might affect one direct specific goal etc. It's as if no-one has the ability to "Game Play" and think deeper regarding flow on ramifications.

Just wait until this balls up of an idea decides a Grand Final. One team kicks 2 goals in that 90 second period to win it. Then the review says "nope"; "90 seconds ago there was a chance at a goal after a mark on the line we missed. Hand the ball over to the other team and give them a shot to win. Oh actually, maybe we'll remove those 2 goals the team scored to win the Grand Final during those 90 seconds as well. Oh lets also pretend that player who did is ACL in those 90 seconds wasn't actually injured as well. Someone call his family and tell them it's ok, it never actually happened!!

Like it's going to be literal riots I think.

Reviewing everything like VAR in soccer. Ruins the game. “Oh, looks like we’ve got a handball in the penalty box from 5 minutes ago.” I f***in hate it.

Back to goal line and touched incidents only, once play has resumed, that’s it.

They would never do it. It would be swept under the rug nothing to see here

Who gives a shit if it was correct or not? The goal umpire made the call - a behind. The ARC wasn't asked to check by the umpire, who presumably was confident with her decision, so the ARC should never have become involved.

It was one of the dumbest things I have seen in recent memory, but the important test is what happens now. Do they use the opportunity to recalibrate and go back to only using the ARC for goal umpire decisions when the umpire requests it, so we get never face this stupidity again? Or do they double down?

Or only check when the clock stops. Which was the original rule. And seemed to work just fine.

They check every score. They have since the Adelaide debacle.

Please review that play on adavantage call for the Lions :)

It's fine to go back in time and fix the decision, if that's the rule. But it's not and never has been. If there was a "There is a 60 second gametime period after the decision where it can be called back" rule, then fine. But that does not exist. They created a rule during a professional sports game. It is laughable and fixed I would say. How much did the umpires have on Marshall kicking a goal today?

Would never happen, because the review system would only be used on clear incorrect decisions in grand finals and the TV broadcasters would never highlight incorrect decisions because it's in their contracts to not critisise the umpires and review system.

No they didn't.

It's been the rule for years now.

A incorrectly called behind can be just as influential as an incorrect goal, just ask Adelaide fans.
Yeh, but you can say that about every wrong or missed free kick. Onus is on the onfield umpires to review if they are unsure. Otherwise accept it and move on.

So they need to call everything back when a player remonstrates with an umpire now?
No. That's the whole point. They don't bring it back. They no longer hold up play every time, they instead play on and review it in the background.
They review everything, and only bring the ones back that were incorrect.

Which is exactly what they did today.

They should only check goals - up until the play resumes - or scores where a review is called onfield. Once play is back on, arc should be out of the equation.

How about the ARC overturning a match-deciding score from a previous play 30 seconds after the final siren, when one team is already celebrating? 🤔

They told us after the Geelong/Adelaide game, where the Geelong player toe poked the ball out but the Adelaide player was pinged, that they couldn't bring the ball back because play had already restarted..

90 seconds is way too long to come to a decision, otherwise some bloke's just going to be sitting there watching stuff on TV, see something happen in the background and call for the game to be reversed 2-3 minutes.

What a complete and utter joke of a system.

Brought in a brand new system to in response to a one off incident and completely ****ed it up and made it 10x worse.

But what's the difference? The goal umpire today should have called for a review. And we would have had to wait 60 seconds for the ARC guy to do his thing, then Marshall would ha E kicked the goal.

I stead there was about 30 seconds of pretty much dead footy that we sat through, then ended up with the exact same result.

Since the Adelaide debacle a couple of years ago, they have to review all goal line activity. Not just goals.

Goal line reviews are different. They've been different since the Adelaide farce.
