PSA: Calm down

Am I heavily disappointed with that loss? Yes. Do I believe our season is over? No.

Calm down people. We came into the game rusty, off our game but also we didn't work nearly as hard enough and that was telling and the reason why we lost.

Calls such as x player is overrated, mediocre, average, overpaid etc is premature and reactionary with no logic behind it.

I understand it's an emotional game, and heck, that rollercoaster of emotions is why we're all here. But just chill out for a bit and remember the bigger picture, the previous rounds, the good games played by x player/s.

Of course calls that a player is overrated is reactionary.. what else could it be? Its a reaction to their performance...

I'm not sure how calls Cloke and Sidebottom are overrated is premature but anyway.

People are passionate and get emotional after a win or loss, you have to accept it will always happen and if you can't handle it then don't be around the forum at that time

When you classify someone as overrated, you are labelling their general football ability. Are you saying that one game defines a players football ability? No it doesn't, because you need to take into account the previous performances when you decide to describe someones ability.

The calls on Cloke and Sidebottom are overrated because Cloke came 3rd in the Coleman last bloody season. Yes, he's out of form, but is he overrated? Too early to tell.

As for Sidebottom, didn't you watch the Anzac game? Premature, reactionary, illogical.

I can accept it, but I can also make a thread about it. I'd offer the same advice if you can't handle that

Don't worry, I can handle the thread :p

I was angry last night and punched the crap out of the couch. Am calm now though. This group has a lot of potential and we will have some good wins this year, maybe even a break though against the Hawks and at least one finals win.

Sage advice!

I have personally seen a car bashed and dented almost beyond recognition by its owner when it didn't work the way he wanted it to. BF can be much the same when we lose.

BF always has the sky is falling mentality after a loss.

Everyone was a superstar last week and a dud the next.

Many posters are idiots too. You always have to factor that in!

I think he might be referring to posters making ridiculous calls on limited exposure and hence looking like arse clowns

This is a forum isn't it?? why should it be limited to being a forum for expressing bland, balanced, sensible, passionless expressions that we will all nod along in agreement with... Thank F@ck for the posters who have the balls to express some passion and their own thinking at the time.. whatever it is!!!!!!!!!!!.. ....just be a huge yawwn otherwise.. And one thing this should definitely not be is a forum for a lot of posters to express their own sense of smug self righteousness and intellectual superiority.

Agreed calm down. It was a loss (only 21 pts could have been and probably should have been 6-8 goals). 3-4 players had dirty nights and many were quiet, Swan, Elliott, White, Cloke etc

We are 5-3, still in 8 and heck at the start of the season if you had told to me after 8 games we would be 5-3, I would have taken that and run a thousand kms.

Next 4 games are very winnable so that means we could be 9-3 before we face the Hawks.

Yep. BF is a hoot after a loss and I say that without a hint of smug self righteousness! I actually enjoy watching people self immolate!

Well you just completely misread what I wrote entirely.

I haven't asked people to not show their passion. I'm pointing out that such calls about players lately have been premature and unfounded. If you think being passionate is criticisng players that they don't deserve the money, don't deserve to play for Collingwood, abusing the players etc. then you are sorely mistaken.

You are here just putting your own value judgement on what passion is on other people.

Opinion's don't have to be founded on anything, everyone is allowed to have their own.

Who are you to tell other people what passion is to them? People will never calm down post match, you best get used to it now.

I'm terribly dissapointed at the reaction.

I thought it was just a bad night after a really good month. Effort was there, we were just off the boil.

What the AFL is showing us this year is that anyone is beatable if you are off your game a little bit.

I thought we tried but it just didn't happen for us and our skill errors cost us. I don't think we can draw massive conclusions because as a whole we have been great this year.

Although we shouldn't overreact after a loss, we also shouldn't overreact after a win. (And I think Bigfooty as a whole, not just Collingwood fans, does both way too much).

With the supposed depth that we have, it is not unreasonable to be calling out player X for their performance if we think there is a better option that could come in (Eg. Keefe - Brown/Reid) or if there is a specific thing that could be improved.

It is also good, at all times, to consider that there are always things that our team does well, and always things the could be improved on.

If people's idea of passion is to criticise and abuse players, then there's not much else I can do.

I'm asking people to be rational and I've provided my reasons why. If they choose to spit in my face and go on about how they don't care if their criticism and abuse is unfounded, then once again, there's not much more I can do with that and looks like I'll be using the ignore function for the first time.

But alas, they are not the people I'm hoping to come across too. I'm hoping to speak to rational people, who can realise that maybe it's too early to start saying the sky is falling.

You can choose to just accept it. I choose to try and do something about it. A difference of mindsets I suppose.

That's my point, either ignore it or accept it, no one will ever change it.

The pessimism and the optimism.
The logical and illogical.
The hate and the love.
The reactions and the predictions...
And everything in between.

I never got the whole start a thread to tell people not to voice their opinions...

It's what makes this board so great!

I would, but I'm too stoopid.

It was a frustrating loss. We played crap, and still had;
a) Sidebottom, Cloke and Blair held gimme uncontested marks inside 50
b) Langdon gotten more than a fingernail to that ball, and
c) the AO siren been audible
... we would have won.

So in a sense it was both not as bad as it seemed, and yet infinitely frustrating.

I'm taking my son to his first game next week, so if we had to lose one, I'd rather it was on the road against Adelaide.
