Plus Connolly virtually wrote off Sampi the other day when he said he wouldn't be ready until 09.

Found a humourous write up of Kangars on the draft and trading board. He was earmarked to be picked up by the bombers at pick 23 in the national draft.

23. Essendon - Chris Kangars

Kangars is an elite athlete, not just by footy standards, but by running-jumping go to Olympics standards. He is a runner who looks like a runner on a footy field. His kicking is so bad that he tends to find every corner to run into and then engage in a game of hot-potato, hot-potato as he dishes off hospital handballs to bemused teammates. That said he can run. The Bombers need to begin some succession planning for FB and if Dunkley and Gaspar can be 200 game backmen then there is no reason that an intensively coached Kangars can't give it a shot too.

Definitely seems to be a project player.

198cm. baskbetball background and picked up footy a year ago. played with sandy reserves as a ruck and i THINK moved into the senior side more as a forward.
21 years old. probably wont be ready for a few years.
its pretty funny how shocked and nervous he is. sounds like a good kid in need of some media training.

Started footy in 2005 playing for Old Hayliebury after playing basketball his whole life, before playing for Sandringham last season, starting in the 2's and getting games in the seniors towards the end of the year as a ruckman and tall forward, I think he can mark the thing, but his kicking might be questionable, obviously has improved in leaps and bounds and if he keeps going he might make it one day.

MELBOURNEfc has used its number 3 pick in today’s Pre-Season Draft to select Sandringham’s Stefan Martin.

Martin is an athletic tall who plays most of his football as a defender. Amazingly, 2007 was his first full year of football after crossing sporting codes from basketball midway through 2006.

I remember watching martin him play on tv last year for Sandy, good strong mark, kicking is a bit off, but as above only played the game for a short time and was pretty impressive

yeh when he was on SEN he said he needs to work on his kicking he was pretty honest and he knows what he needs to work on he has a really good attitude

yeah i went to school with him same year, top bloke, was so surprised he gave up bball to play football, he turned down a scholarship for law n bball i think over in the states. A gun at everything he does and has only been playing since he left school.

I can't see Stefan Martin getting very far with us when you consider that White, PJ, Meesen, Jamar would all be ahead of him. Not to mention Jake Spencer who will be vying for Sandy's #1 ruck position as well.

Martin can play as a key defender or key forward as well so i think that is why we got him we will probebly turn him into a KPP.... i think he started the year in the ruck for Sandy but towards the end of the year they put him forward so i think his spot is safe

Bailey said the selection of Martin was all about grooming long-term future key position players for the club.
"Stefan fitted our needs more than Ashley did," Bailey told Sportal on Tuesday.
"He is a tall (198cm) key position player with an enormous leap."
Bailey said he believes Martin could develop into a future key position player at either end of the ground.
"He can play down back or go up forward," he said.
The Demons were equally enthused about their first pick in the rookie draft - which immediately followed the pre-season draft on Tuesday - in 18-year-old Trent Zomer.
Zomer, who stands 196cm, was the leading goalkicker for the Eastern Ranges in Victoria's TAC Cup under 18 competition this year and like Martin is agile for his size.
Bailey said the Demons could not believe their good fortune that Zomer - who was considered extremely unlucky not to be taken in last month's national draft - was still available at pick three in the rookie draft.
"He is a very good mark and while he is more of a forward at this stage we think he could also be capable of playing down back in the future."
The Demons also went for height with another rookie in 202cm Queensland ruckman Jake Spencer while the club believes it may have unearthed two gems with its other two rookie selections in pocket rockets Shane Valenti and Austin Wonaeamirri, who both stand just 176cm.
"Shane is only 19 and he was runner-up in the Liston Trophy (in the VFL) this season," Bailey said.
"And Austin is an exciting player who certainly puts plenty of forward pressure on and has already played senior football in the WAFL and is playing senior football at the moment with St Marys (in the Northern Territory Football League)."

Bailey wants him to be a KPP and sounds like he has big plans for him

Let's just hope one or more of these young rookies turn out to be AFL senior players.
Remember most young rookies fail to get a spot on the senior list after a season or two and are gone from the club.
