PSD pick 3

Some pretty decent rookies in there, would it be harsh of me to say a few bad early injuries to the senior list wouldn't hurt? ;)

As much as it pains me to say it, don't be surprised to see a couple of them take the place of Moloney, Sylvia or Rivers:(

Hope to god I didn't jinx the boys then!

After completion of the drafts, the team for 2008 maybe look like this?

B: Bell Frawley Miller
HB: Whelan Martin Rivers
C: Moloney McLean Bate
HF: Sylvia Newton Green
F: Robertson Neitz Davey
Ruck: White Bruce Jones
Inter: Dunn Meeson Morton McDonald
Emer: Bartram Wheatley Yze

Martin won't slot straight into our side and Meeson might not either. Carrol will replace Martin. Otherwise is pretty much bang on...

Might be able to interchange Morton with Grmies.
Geeez, this is exciting... cant wait to also unvale our rookies in the NAB cup... the Aussie and Davey tag team combo will taste ever so sweet!

Personally, the team you just posted KTLK looks good, however the only one that i don't agree with is Martin at CHB, too green to be thrown in there that quick. Needs time to improve his game.

Green to the wing, Bate to the flank

Bailey said the selection of Martin was all about grooming long-term future key position players for the club.
"Stefan fitted our needs more than Ashley did," Bailey told Sportal on Tuesday.
"He is a tall (198cm) key position player with an enormous leap."
Bailey said he believes Martin could develop into a future key position player at either end of the ground.
"He can play down back or go up forward," he said.
The Demons were equally enthused about their first pick in the rookie draft - which immediately followed the pre-season draft on Tuesday - in 18-year-old Trent Zomer.
Zomer, who stands 196cm, was the leading goalkicker for the Eastern Ranges in Victoria's TAC Cup under 18 competition this year and like Martin is agile for his size.
Bailey said the Demons could not believe their good fortune that Zomer - who was considered extremely unlucky not to be taken in last month's national draft - was still available at pick three in the rookie draft.
"He is a very good mark and while he is more of a forward at this stage we think he could also be capable of playing down back in the future."
The Demons also went for height with another rookie in 202cm Queensland ruckman Jake Spencer while the club believes it may have unearthed two gems with its other two rookie selections in pocket rockets Shane Valenti and Austin Wonaeamirri, who both stand just 176cm.
"Shane is only 19 and he was runner-up in the Liston Trophy (in the VFL) this season," Bailey said.
"And Austin is an exciting player who certainly puts plenty of forward pressure on and has already played senior football in the WAFL and is playing senior football at the moment with St Marys (in the Northern Territory Football League)."

Bailey wants him to be a KPP and sounds like he has big plans for him
When I read great posts like this I just wish the damn season could start now. Never have I been so enthusiastic and apprehensive about the next season. We may not make the top 8 next year but it will be interesting none the less. We have recruited well and we are finally getting some stocks of height that we have long needed... not just tap rucks but athletic types. My old man said that this kid was around the 90kg which is a decent frame for a 21 year old who is just into the game (more or less). Looking forward to seeing him develop and a better option over Sampi.

I'm on the Valenti to the FDees bandwagon. Gives of that Matt Priddis vibe, no-one really knows too much about him til he starts destroying sides.

End of the road for Sampi too I must agree. Maric confirmed that.

defently not worth wasting a pick on someone who be lucky to last a season with bad injuries

It looks like we recruited for best available in the main draft and then our needs in the more recent 2 drafts. The height issue hasn't been solved as such, because they're all unproven, but its a step in the right direction.

To: Manginable Claw, Melbourne150, Foooty & Eliasd82,

Thanks for all your comments. The only reason why Martin is in the team because I am sick of Nathan Carroll playing in the defence, always if not mostly beaten. As the result of this, would try Martin there for a change, something fresh and different in the team's defence.

Hope Martin will come up quicker than we thought. :)

You still haven't explained why Miller's in the team.

Dear Dez,

Most of us agree that Miller is pain and frustrating to watch based on his poor performance. That is why you have mentioned Miller should go to the trash can.

The only reason why Miller is in the team because Dean Bailey thinks that he is a required player. Otherwise, Miller will be already delisted or traded.

Perhaps Miller will be given an opportunity to play in defence, an area the club need to improve. Thats the only area I can see Miller will fit in since Newton is so impressive at CHF.

If Miller still struggles in defence, then Miller can smell the trash can is coming.

Hope this answer your question. Thanks.

Thanks KTLK, Personally I think Carroll is usually playing out of his weight or height division on most occasions.. half way thru 2006 he was touted as All Australian. I'd perferr him down there but i dont want him further up the ground.
This year he had virtually no back up, in 2006 he had Rivers launching himself into packs and other blokes like wheels...

Gimme him one more year, if he has another shocker then lay the boots in... but a great defense needs to be made up of a strong team not just individual.
Ie: Look at Geelong, they always had Scarlett... but combo a outstanding year with Egan, Milburn and Mackie then they are a much more competent defence.

I think Carroll can be quite an effective defender but he needs to be given the right match-ups, not just having to play on someone through lack of other viable options. Is Martin that man? Way too early to tell but hopefully either him, Frawley or Miller (I can't bvelieve i said that) can stand up for the sake of our defence.
