Re: PSD Pick Poll

I'm not sure i see the value in picking Skipworth unless its a thank-you for looking after a few of our young blokes. If that is the case he'll play a couple of token games late and be gone by the end of next year to make room for the three mandatory draft picks you need to make each year.

Re: Bombers set sights on speedy VFL midfielder

In contested marking situations, Alwyn can hold his own. He doesn't have any advantages, but he still holds his own. Robin's good when the ball hits the deck but in contested situations, he can easily be pushed aside. Contested marking is one example.

How many contested marks has Davey taken in his 19 game career to date?

Re: PSD Pick Poll

yeah not smart but tbh i dont have a problem with it, he will be going through the toughest, most strict drug testing procedures i have ever heard of, shaving his head wouldnt have any impact on whether we find out if he is still using or not.

imo their is little to no risk... if we draft cousins, worst case scenario he starts using again, we know about it within a couple of days and his contract is void due to the clause we have on it.

and if he doesnt relapse then we have an elite midfeilder which we havent had since JJ was at his best.

Little risk..you are kidding right..here are some negatives if he re-offends...

1) Backlash from sponsors

2) EFC are down a player for the remainder of the season

3) EFC waste a pick in a strong draft on a guy who will probably do something stupid.

4) The negative effect on younger players if he re-offends, the last thing we need is a drug culture at our club.

These are 3 key factors and two clubs- Collingwood and St Kilda conducted 5 month investigations into Cousins. There is too much baggage. Shaving off his hair was the last straw for me, I was open-minded until then.

Knights on SEN!

Said we will be taking a mature experienced player in the PSD!!

Cousins
Skipworth
Nathan Carroll (my god i hope not)
Nick Davis (same as carroll)

any others who are mature and experienced?

Re: Knights on SEN!

The club has already said we won't draft Cousins. It will be Skipworth, and I'm sure there will be a few whingers when we do.

Re: Essendon Media Watch

How many times does the club have to say we won't be picking Cousins for people to accept it?

I'm not sure if you're directing that at me Merv or not.

I've widely accepted that we won't be getting Cousins, but there is still that slight chance we might. Highly unlikely, but it wouldn't feel right if a highly talented player like Cousins wasn't given another chance. We all know his drug problems, but if he convince a club or two that he's over them and has the right plans in place, long term and short term, then I'm not sure why clubs in contention for a flag wouldn't give him a go. We're not in contention for a flag yet, so I very much doubt we'd take the risk of recruiting Ben but some realistic top 8 teams like the Bulldogs or Swans would be silly not to consider him.

Re: Bombers set sights on speedy VFL midfielder

I'm not sure if you get the point Jimi. Doesn't really matter how many he has taken, but it is mandatory to be competitive in them contested situations.

Re: Knights on SEN!

Why on earth would we take a bloke that couldnt cut it and has then had 2 years out of the system - why?

I appreciate we dont have many players in the 24-29 age bracket but Skipworth, I mean I am not having a go at his endevour but this would be a backward step in my opinion.

Re: Knights on SEN!

Yeah, Skipworth for sure. I don't know how I feel about that. Still a few good young players up for grabs, and I'd rather us take a punt on someone who has the scope for improvement than take a depth player... He will be very good in the development of the younger players however as he is somewhat of a role model for some of the younger brigade already...

Mixed feelings...

Re: Knights on SEN!

skipworth played some decent games in his time with the crows. he missed pretty much a whole season when he smashed his knee so its not like he had the chance to prove himself in 07 due to this. in 08 early on he was recovering from knee issue but still went on to win bendigo's b&f.

i don't see the issue with taking him when we will have a number of rookie selections who can be promoted any time.

Very true and good point made.

I don't think it'll be a 'bad' selection if we were to pick up Skipworth. It might not benefit us at all, Honestly I'd rather pick up a young kid like DeBoer, but Skipworth has had a good season and I think he deserves another opportunity.

Re: Knights on SEN!

I hope it would be Cousins, though more than likely it will be Skipworth.

Re: Knights on SEN!

We don't need nor want Skipworth. And by we, i defiantly mean me.

If we are going to go for an established player, go for a player that has shown he has what it takes, a player that has actually made it at the top level. That player is Cousins, otherwise its youth. Trying to compile a best 22 proved enough trouble with the amount of depth we have. Cousins or youth.

Re: Bombers set sights on speedy VFL midfielder

If we are going to go for another little guy i suggest Dylan Joyce. I played all my junior footy against the guy and he is an out and out star. It's a given that he didn't grow too much more, but correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Angus only 68kg when we drafted him? Further, Essendon have been looking after Joyce like they did Maric since he was 15.

Rookie him or PSD. He is a footballer who might not have the body of one, but boy he can play.

Re: Essendon Media Watch

16 clubs considered him..guess what they all said...NO!

All said? I'm not so sure about that. Most, yes.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a club pull the pin and take the risk of drafting Ben come PSD selecting. A club that really hasn't said all that much.

Re: Knights on SEN!

I'm with the OP, please please don't let it be Carroll.

Re: PSD Pick Poll

Of all this talk about the shaving incident:

Hair on the body grows at a slower rate then that on the head. The complete body hair removal was a smart move by Ben as it rid of any chance of then finding old traces of prior use is old hair that had been lamenting for over a year.

It was a clean the slate, start afresh move and from my view there is nothing shifty there.

What if they tested his body hair and found traces? What if those traces were lingering from the past? While he would have been clean at the time, there is no way which they can test the time that it was used.

Smart move by Cousins, and that should not be looked at as a reason as not to draft him by any of the clubs.

It's not directed at any one poster but to all that continue to talk about the possibility of us picking him up.

I understand people want him and that's fine but the club has stated on numerous occasions that we won't be taking him, yet people still continue to bring up the possibility.

There is no possibility, we will not select him and most likely his career is over.

Think you(or someone else) should start a thread containing quotes from the Club saying we won't take him...

Lloyd said he was saddened by the likelihood Ben Cousins won't get a chance to resurrect his career.

"Our club's made it clear they won't be taking him and it doesn't look great for him," he said.

I've started you off ;)

i think the hair test picks up drug use for 3 months, hence why they will be conducting 4 tests per year if he was to return.

It was the worst possible move he could have made and sealed his fate.
