The recruiters have seen him play LIVE many times and aren't sold.

Basing our drafting around another club makes us a pathetic excuse for a club. Like Carlton.

I thought he was a 2nd or 3rd tall, have not seen him at all though. I think we have enough talls. As for Johnson, I am not sure. I would rather a midfielder personally. I think Meyer suits our gameplan and would be well worth a shot as a PSD pick.

i want Rockliff.

can't believe he got overlooked for the 2nd year in a row.

I was a little surprised but not totally shocked. A number of guys who had questionable pace and agility got over looked.
He probably did not quite show enough in his midfield stints to push himself up the order.
Given the fact that clubs will have extra rookie picks this year he will end up somewhere.

I have narrowed down my list for who i would like us to pick up with our PSD pick. Have also included some names and reasons why we wont/should not pick them up. Enjoy.

Adam Cockie - 180cm - 84kg - MID

Tough ball winning midfielder from WA. a really tough in and under player, loves the contest, but is also a very very good outside runner. Apparently us and Richmond are keen on Cockie. More midfielders do we need?

Steven Gaertner - 198cm - 88kg - UTILITY

A tall defender, a mobile ruckmen, a really good player, was touted to go last year, but lacked some things, went away worked on them, and has come back as a better player, a real upside if someone picks him up, played in the ruck at stages during the year, and won a few hitouts, has good speed for someone his size, the only worry is his kicking, work on that, and we could find a real gem here. Do we take the risk, or take a safe option?

Brad Mangan - 186cm - 83kg - 3rd TALL

A 17 y.o kid who is super quick, a booming left foot, and can play at either end of the ground, he has played mostly forward, but has played down back a couple of times this year from all reports and done really well, could fill a quicker version of NLM down back, but do we need another NLM?

Jay Van Berlo - 184cm - 80kg - MID

Is a superb HB/BP/Tagger, has a terrific work ethic to underline how much he wants to succeed, he has terrific pace and is a good size already, has a terrific attitude to everything, and has his head screwed on, a real leader aswell. Do we take another small defender, defensive player?

Clancee Pearce - 183cm - 85kg - HBF

WA's player of the nationals this year, captain of the WAFL colts team of the year, AA from the U18s, a handy resume for a kid who did not get picked up in the ND, he reads the play superbly, and has great poise, do we need another one of these players though, with Dempsey and Myers back there?

Tom Rockliff - 183cm - 83kg - FORWARD

Reminds me everytime of Brad Johnson, someone who is not overly quick, but plays taller than what they are, stands at only 183cm, but youd swear he was 188 sometimes, reads the play superbly, has beautiful skills, is not athletically a footballer, but in football cicumspect, he is the perfect footballer, skills are good, reads the play well. Do we take the risk, IMO, a high risk high reward type of player?

Tom Hill - 198cm - 79kg - RUCK

A skinny kid, very athletic and a real work horse, a bottom aged kid who has more upside to come, has had an injury interupeted couple of years, but talls take time we all know that, has pace, is mobile and agile, but does lack size on him (79kg) Do we take the risk, or try and rookie him?

Tom Allwright - 185cm - 83kg - MID

A really good player at the stoppages, has a strong body and could play senior footy round 1 next year, is very good overhead, a great contested footy player, one to watch I think. Do we still need mids?

Kade Klemke - 180cm - 78kg - HBF

A kid who won AA honours, captained the TAC premiership team (Murray Bushrangers), plays a very similar role to that of Luke Hodge, a sweeper across HB, can puch into the midfield, but plays predominantly as a sweeper, is good over head, strong at the contest, and a real competitior, a real outstanding leader aswell, someone who I was surprised to see fall through the draft.

I would not take De Boer, racks up the pill, but we have plenty of these types of ball winning players, we need some ilk and sklil to start complementing our ball winners, of the other kids, Sharples looms as a likely type, but do we need a small forward, plays a very simialr game to that of todays forwards, a quick silky smooth forward, with pace to burn, but do we need more small forwards with Jetta, Davey, Monfries, mids rotating throught there, probably not, but he (Sharples) does have a massive upside. Andrew Browne is an interesting one also, is a tall ruckmen from the Bushrangers, is a little slow, and does not have the agility or mobility that I feel is required to play at the level of todays game, however, he was selcted to play rep footy, and di reasonably well, so, the kid can obviously play.

Any other players who you feel we could pick up, I do not think any of the recycled players are worth a shot at, could be wrong, but, thats my take on things.

Re: PSD Pick Poll

De Boer, Rockliff and Gaertner will never play AFL footy. Bookmark it! Their deficiencies are too great. The modern game is uncompromising eg.. Pev.

Allwright, Sheahan and Salter maybe worth it.

Re: PSD Pick Poll

1) Adam Cockie - Hard tough inside outside ball winner
2) Tom Hill - Underage ruckmen, huge upside. dont think we can get him..
3) Clancee Pearce - The kid can play, a sublime ball user, can play deep back or through the midfield.
4) Ben Cousins - Proven player, who can show the kids what it takes to get to the next level.
5) Jay Van Berlo - Shut down defender who can also play through the middle, tough as nails,
would not take DeBoer, too many of these high ball winners, shit disposers already in the red and black
Skipworth maybe, is still only 25, a player with that age bracket we could use.
Mangan could be an interesting one, i think he will get picked up any ways. quick, and a good user of the ball, nice size too. Rockliff, no, dont need small medium forwards.
just my two cents on the topic.. take it or leave it.

Re: PSD Pick Poll

Matthew De Boer...

Couldn't believe he didn't get snatched up in the National Draft... He's a ball winner. Who cares about deficiencies, we can work on it.

Yeah, lets get a bloke that can't kick..have we not learnt a lesson from the top sides- you need effective ball users. De Boer (or De Clanger as he should be called) is a terrible kick!

Sounds good. What do you recon about Meyer though. I actually recon he is worth the risk, and is a pretty good user of the ball. Staying fit has been his issue but as a PSD pick I recon he is worth a punt:thumbsu:
