Re: Bombers set sights on speedy VFL midfielder

Being a victim of height all throughout juniors i would love to see a small fella prove the doubters wrong. I wish recruiters (at all levels) were not as narrow sighted when it comes to picking skillful players from beam poles. I guess i am a little bit bitter but it would be nice for someone to buck the trend given it's virtually impossible.

Good to see you've got over it and moved on... Big Slick! ;)

Re: Bombers set sights on speedy VFL midfielder

He is a massive 3Kg heavier than Nahas. I don't know if you have seen Alwyn up close but if you did you would say that there is no way he could play AFL football.
He has the speed factor though, Nahas doesn't seem to have the pace of Davey.

I said the scales may not read it, and I was right. The way Alwyn dealt with physical pressure even at the age when he was drafted was more effective compared to Nahas deals with it now.

In what way? He cops a fair battering. Why do you think Nahas can't handle it?

Re: Bombers set sights on speedy VFL midfielder

Anyone who saw the VFL GF this year will know where i was coming from. The bigger bodied Nth Ballarat players smashed him all night and took him out of the game. If he is going to out bodied at VFL level then there is no chance he is going to be effective at AFL level.

clearly coming from a man who has only watched one vfl game all year.. that had nothing to do with the way he played as nth ballarat are not the most physicall team in the vfl.. look at the other sides that have huge bodies where nahas still played welll.. he had groin problems for the second half of the year that impacted his form, for you to think the size of the opposition had any thing to do with that maybe you should go watch the sanfl vs vfl game.. the sa boys where twice the size of that victorian team.. yet nahas still manged 4 goals 20 touches and the medal

Re: Bombers set sights on speedy VFL midfielder

Jarryd Blair, Dylan Joyce, Xavier Gotch and Andrew Hooper are all TAC cup short people who I prefer over Nahas. Once Nahas was paid closer attention to he struggled noticably.

For starters, Andrew Hooper's bottom aged, so he's ineligable.

Nahas has many more tricks than Blair, Joyce and Gotch. He may be light, but he's far better equipped to hadnle the pace of AFL football than those 3.

Having said that, I don't think he's an ideal target for the PSD. Not at all against him in the Rookie Draft though.

Not true about the VFL, i saw a few Bendigo games ;)
True about seeing Nahas live as i did not get to the Port v Bendigo games .I only saw him play live once plus a couple of TV games.
Thats not to say i have not seen a bit of him play as i saw a few of his under 18 games a couple of years ago.
I stand by what i watched in the GF. North Ballarat may not be the most physical side going around but they made Nahas ineffective by knocking of the contest as often as they could. AFL sides will try and do the same. They where doing it to Davey once they saw what sort of impact he was having early on and i have no doubt that with Nahas they would do the same.
It is not a knock on how the kid plays but it is a simple fact. Small blokes who get knocled of the contest easily dont make it at AFL level.
I dont doubt his ability :)

In contested marking situations, Alwyn can hold his own. He doesn't have any advantages, but he still holds his own. Robin's good when the ball hits the deck but in contested situations, he can easily be pushed aside. Contested marking is one example.

Re: Essendon Media Watch

Could this mean Cousins might come to Essendon after all, even though the club weeks ago said no?

I doubt it, though it's still a slim possibility.

essendon to pick a 'good mature player'...just on the news???

Anyone know anything else other than what was on the news?? radio were suggesting it could be cousins

Re: Essendon Media Watch

If Essendon are considering a 'Mature age draftee' then they must take Ben Cousins!!!!

Someone has to take the gamble on him and there is no reason Essendon can't. He is an awesome player and will have the same impact on our midfield as Judd did when he went to Carlton.

Re: PSD Pick Poll

So we should pick the druggy?

Not neccessarily.

But Cousins as well as about 20 other discarded players would be better than your suggestion of skipworth.

How easy it is to sit behind your computer and chuck stones at a bloke who's doing his best to do the right thing.

Couragous!

Re: PSD Pick Poll

Cousins got himself into this mess. No-one asked him to destroy his career by becoming a addict. I hope he gets himself right but if EFC pick him up I will be livid to say the least. Skipworth at least is in the right age bracket and is a nice bloke and sits in with the team well. Skipworth> Cousins.

Big call, and I think you may have got this one wrong Oren.

Judd is considerably younger and has speed to break tags.
Whilst Cousins had the speed and endurance to break tags earlier in his career, I doubt he could do it now.

If indeed we do draft him, he'll still have an impact on our club no doubt. Will draw some taggers away from Stanton and will teach the young guys a few tricks. But if he does step out of line, we'd need to be harsh and rip his contract up straight away.

I agree that we have a zero tolerance policy with him.

About the Judd comment - ur right. it's not exactly the same but i think you know what i mean. Simply an experience boost in our midfield which we haven't tried since Camporeale??

Re: Essendon Media Watch

How many times does the club have to say we won't be picking Cousins for people to accept it?

But surely nahas was targeted all year not just in the gf but yet you look past that and single the one game out all be it the most important one.. all players strugle to deal with being targeted and scraged why should he be any different even the best strugle at times.
i dont think anyone is doubting the ability of the kid only his size.. i have seen plenty of alwyn at state level and he was doing what nahas has been doing in the vfl.. it took alwyn davey 3 years to break into south adelaides first side so to say your making your judgement on nahas based on his u18 form isnt the best way to judge what the kid is all about.. why not give him a spot on the list (rookie or psd) to see what he can do.. surely his worth a shot or would you rather another bean pole who has that special word potential??

Re: PSD Pick Poll

Yep and to be honest that blew any chance he had of being drafted. Not a smart move 3 days before the draft.

yeah not smart but tbh i dont have a problem with it, he will be going through the toughest, most strict drug testing procedures i have ever heard of, shaving his head wouldnt have any impact on whether we find out if he is still using or not.

imo their is little to no risk... if we draft cousins, worst case scenario he starts using again, we know about it within a couple of days and his contract is void due to the clause we have on it.

and if he doesnt relapse then we have an elite midfeilder which we havent had since JJ was at his best.
