The comments in the review for him were not exactly complementary and his stats even when in defence are below what you would want to see.

Regardless of what anyone does, we should get Mckay at 11 if he's still there... I've wanted him since I watched him play a few months ago, Tall, athletic and can kick... Fits the bill I'd say! Weitering, Curnow, Mckay and Oliver in the draft would be a ripper start to the rebuild...

I think Curnow will be gone before our second pick but it would be nice to get him.

Only picked up as a rookie would suggest he has some serious flaws, being booted after one year would also suggest he doesn't work hard enough.

Bit more to it than that (Sinclair coming in, Nankervis improving etc) but from the times I've watched McLaren he certainly works hard but is just ok as a part time forward and not very imposing at all in the ruck. Pass.

I actually tend to disagree on this. He's currently a medium forward who may move to the midfield. He's to me the prototypical slider. 'Bitsa's' tend to slide a bit. Two KPs go first. The legit onballers next. The other KP players. The bitsa may then hit the board. 8(11) is not unforseen IMHO. Same with McKay. Oliver is the one I fear will be gone.

That would be the very best start to season ever.

Yeah maybe but the raps on him are pretty big.

Last I looked, the Swans desperately needed some young KPDs to take over from Richards/Grundy/Mattner.

Not sure if still the case, but if it is and McLaren couldn't still keep his spot, I guess just isn't good enough.

Don't think anyone we could take has a higher ceiling than Morabito. Not sure if we've beefed up our medical department, but if we can trust our guys to get something out of those knees, would be an ideal low risk high reward scenario.

The problem he had this year was bone bruising, not the knee itself so maybe the time off would have done him good this year?
I nearly ran into him in my car at the Peel Thunder gym last year, so I got a close up of him you might say!
He is a seriously big unit and would be a very handy addition with his speed and skill.
I think a new club would do him good.

I say we upgrade the rookies to the senior list and just select some project players in the rookie draft.

But I'm sure the powers that be have their eyes on a Matthew Dick option that no one has heard of.

He wasn't up to NEAFL standard. He was played out of position a lot in the forward line, but a lot of swans supporters think he would struggle holding a spot in a VFL team. He has good size, and some attributes, but I dont think he will make it. If he wants an AFL career, will have to proove himself for a couple of years in a quality state league (WAFL/VFL/SANFL). Personally, not sure if that will even happen though.

I read that it had nothing to do with the knee - it was bone bruising to the shin and they didn't want to risk aggravating the knee after his surgeries.
The year off was more precautionary.
I think you have to read between the lines a bit. There is a risk, but if the situation was a total write-off then Fremantle wouldn't be looking to rookie list him. It's not like they are struggling for midfield depth.
