PSD/Rookie Draft

Who to go with in the rookie draft? I am troubled by Jesse Glass-McCasker's at times horrible disposal, would need to be confident that he can be cleaner than that. Besides I prefer to go local in the rookie draft to avoid the homesickness/go home risk. I'd be more inclined to go 2 mids with pace - perhaps the James "Alan" Parsons project is the way to go at RD pick one (very outside I know, but otherwise looks very good to me) and later on I like the look of the extreme pace of ex-Athletics star Matthew Debruin. Have a look at the pace on this kid! The romantic in me would love to see us give Jake Bradley a slot, but logically it makes no sense. He hasn't shown enough to come into calculations for anyone else I wouldn't have thought and unless rookied by someone else if he were to show something wherever he might play next year (and why not get him down to Northern?) we would be in a position to nominate him f-s in 2016. One exposed form however he doesn't look much of a shot of making the grade.

you're telling the story here. :) I'm questioning your figure of 15, unless you substitute Korcheck for Russell.

We started with 38, delisted/retired/traded 11 and delisted Fields, Johnson and Walsh from our rookie list.

Adding 12 means we have 1 fewer rookie picks to play with.
yeah yeah... I forgot the yank... like I aint the only one to do that :P

Carlton site says 2 picks in the RD tomorrow...

So either one of those picks is Holman or we are going to let him go to another club... if they take him.

And I wouldnt be holding my breath waiting for Carlton to take him :D

The reason would have been that we would have gone against our preferable list balance. This way we retain the 38/6/2 we had this year.
I think that may be why.

Given who much Korchek's kicking has improved in one week, we should have no issues taking JGM and correct any flaws :)

I just remembered Dan Houston as well. He'd be another one we would be looking at picking up. i think we can only take two in the rookie draft correct?? Says we have 3 selections so i don't know if that takes into account the Matthew Wright pick up.

2 spots left and there won't be any promotions this year.............it seems.

We currently have 44 players on the books, including the 2 Cat B's, topping us out at 46...........hence only 2 spots left.
And one of them might be Holman.

Had a look as well. Had a laugh at who he had picking up first.... only because SOS hates O'Kearny :)

I guess those of us without inside knowledge will find out in a couple of hours... ;)

Snoop rates Parsons as the "most talented kid left" but only a pick 6, while the player I don't mind, Snadden, falls to 25 with the mention that if "he can get it together then he may be the bargain of the draft" - which I tend to think is what you want in a rookie.

And one of them might be Holman.

I know it doesn't mean much but Holman was listed in the "Farewell" section of the Carlton membership magazine i received yesterday.

You think the club would re draft him after giving the official goodbye?

I know nothing of this lad so I did a quick search and found this :

But Schache, considered a near certainty to follow in his late father Laurence Schache’s footsteps and join Brisbane, was held to just one goal.

He was worn like a glove by 198cm Glass-McCasker, who showed off his strong defensive skills, aerial ability and developing rebounding game.

“I didn’t play on him in the first game because I was injured,” Glass-McCasker said.

“I was spewing that I missed it, but he kicked eight against us in that game in Perth.

“I went up to the coach (Andrew Lockyer) and said I wanted to have a crack at him to see where I was at. I played on him down in Geelong and kept him to 1.1. My aim was to keep him to three goals, so I was stoked.

“It was probably one of the best games I’ve played.”

At 198cm with some serious leap and agility, there's a lot to like about the boy, just have to trust the recruiting panel on this one.

Feels like the kind of player the rookie list is made for.

I wouldn't have thought that there was too much to it, they may well have had every intent to select him but until you know who else is available at that pick you can't really say or certain

O'Kearney > Glass-McCasker

GM can't kick and has poor decision making. Put that in defense and we have another Paul Bower.

O'Kearney is a smart footballer who finds a lot of the ball. I much prefer smart players who can find a lot of the ball - Sam Mitchell does it.

If we want to take a "high risk" player - I will be fine with GM.

If we want to take a "low risk" player - I think O'Kearney is better.

No. Leave him for Essendon.

Let's bring in some young hungry kids along with some experience and leadership. We're on the right track by doing the opposite of the Melbourne rebuild!

We have to get our culture "Wright".
