PSD/Rookie Draft

I'm all for WhiteX. Unlucky with injuries but v highly rated. Not too old yet and still has a lot to offer - can play anywhere from half forward to half back and in the middle plus has well-known character and the connection to Bolts would ensure a smooth transition.

Otherwise, I'm all for re-signing Army and hitting the draft.

Has to be Spencer White, even if he never becomes the superastar he was touted to be he looks like he gives 100% and thats what we need.

Just spoken to my source and this is what I have been told. Spencer White was recruited under the old regime at St Kilda, and was talked up by them as being the next guy to replace Reiwoldt. Reiwoldt is a selfish bloke and really didn't mentor him at all. Now that all the regime has changed they have looked at a different direction and he is not part of the new plans, hence a mutual delisting.

But what does complicate things is that he is currently in a moon boot for a broken leg bone and at the same time had surgery on his ankle that he injured during the season and St Kilda refused to book in any surgery. He seems to think he will be ready to go for pre-season, but we have been burnt at CFC with ankle injuries in the past, Daisy and Mclean.

At the end of the day has a heap of talent, but it will come down to whether or not clubs, especially ours think that his injury worries are behind him. With realistically only one spot left on the list it is going to come down to risk versus reward i think.

I would be very happy for them to pay out Jones contract and delist him so we can upgrade Byrne and Wood.
Then we are hoping like crazy that no one bids on jack and we can take him with pick 59 alone.

We'll know more about the club plans by next Friday anyway.

Aren't we keeping pick 60 spare just in case? In the event of bidding, it just gets bumped to the back of the draft - the pick still exists, no? And in a 'shallow' draft there mightn't be much more than 65 actual selections anyway.

That's not to say we won't pass on that pick for a DFA/PSD/Rookie selection.

We'll strip down to 34 list spots or less by Friday, in accordance with 1, 8, 11, 19, 50 and 60.

The list currently sits at 34 players.

And we have picks 1, 8, 11, 19, 59, 60, 113 to pick from. 59 and 60 are being held to cover Jack. If no one bids on him, then we take him with 59 alone leaving 60 and 113.

The club needs to decide whether to give gussy a new contract to start with. And whether to promote one of the Irish boys and Wood... or whether to promote both Irish boys and leave Wood on the rookie list with the intention of delisting him next year... assuming the other clubs just let us take Jack this year without a fight.

If they do bid on Jack, and it's early enough, we'll burn 59 and 60 and maybe have 113 left and one possible rookie upgrade with that pick. After pick 73, picks are worth nothing.

So... getting back to list numbers. With 1 pick for a rookie upgrade and after the ND, the club has to decide whether to go with a 40/4/2 list or a 38/6/2 list, although cat B rookies are limitless... well... Limited to one per country.

If we promote a rookie, we have 39 players on the list with Warnock still there. Delist Warnock and we are at 38 and we can have Coona Blues two nominated rookies.

Or... We can delist Warnock, promote a rookie and get another player through the PSD or as a DFA. Then our list numbers will be 40/4/n... and no nominated rookies.

Any way you look at it, the only way we would have been delisting Armfield or Holman would have been if we had gotten Tomlinsin.

Moore has just been delisted by port... I wouldn't mind using our first in the psd for him

Stating that Richmond are possibly keen. I could see that but Townsend would be dark being the role he was brought in for in this trade period.
Brother Kelvin also part of Richmond's past.

Moore as a DFA would be a reasonable get. I'd keep Warnock and hope that Bolton and new coaching panel are
able to resurrect his value and we could move him next year for a 2nd or 3rd rounder ?
Army would be the one to consider if to let go or not.

He looks quite good. He is quick... I'll give you that. I would be more interested in finding out why he lost interest at the Aint's...

I recall reading Spencer White was struggling more mentally/emotionally after a difficult "personal" year.

If he has been able to settle down his off field life he certainly has the talent.

SOS/Bolts have to be satisfied they can get the best out of him.

Against this is SOS/Bolts determination to get players with a bit of mongrel and resilience for what will most likely be a challenging couple of years.

Consequently I doubt they would go for any player they percieve may have difficulties off field.

Alex Johnson got a year also.................pity we couldn't afford the same courteous to Giles.

How is Apeness progressing? Freo don't have much luck with that #17 do they? Simpson the year before...............gone.
You're asking me about players from another club? sheesh... what do you think I am obsessed with all this WA?

It's not looking good for him I think. Did his ACL as a 16 year old playing Union which isnt a great start to your footballing career. He did his PCL back in earlt May this year and missed 10 weeks of football. However, with Freo chasing McCarthy this year and failing badly, yhey might give him 12 months more to see how he is next year and try to get him playing more. If he is able to get out there, he might make a good foil to McCarthy and as an added bonus, he can ruck a bit as well.
