Do we have the list space to use this pick in the PSD?
The HUN today says we will take 4 players in the national draft plus SOSOS.
I think after that our list is pretty full.

Suppose that highlights the great job SOS and his team did in making sure all 4 spots came in under pick 20. Whilst nothing is ever certain when it comes to drafting (we should know!!),at least having 4 under 20 gives us a better chance of securing some top end talent.

Thats why in my original calculations, I have been working to a 40/4/n ratio for our list.

Whats the point in having 6 rookies... if they are good enough to be on the senior list, they should be on the senior list in the first place.

The rookie list should only be for guys who we want to develop over a couple of years.

It's cheaper, and more flexible, to go 38/6.
Only half a rookie's salary goes in the cap.
And you also have the option of picking any of the 6 rookies to play as a nominated rookie.

From what I was reading of the CBA recently, none of a rookie's salary goes into the cap until they're nominated/elevated.

Well if we promote 2 of them (perhaps Wood and Sheehan?), we'd have 4 ... though that wouldn't allow us to take anyone in the rookie draft

Where are we going to get the picks to promote Wood and Sheehan? If SOSOS doesnt get bid on and we get him for 59 on it's own, then we would have the picks to promote 2 rookies.

That being said, I don't see Wood surviving past next year so we are probably going to have him on the rookie list for 1 more year.

The arrival of Phillips should ensure that Wood stays on the rookie list. No point having 3 ruckmen on the main list.

Thats the other thing as well... between Kreuzer, Phillips and Casboult, we have more than enough ruckmen in the senior side. Having Wood in reserve is a luxury some sides can't afford. He is patient if nothing else He knows that if there is a serious injury to one of those guys, he is in.

Would love to get McKay. Seen him play live a few times and he's got some serious talent.

Would have thought Richmond would prefer an inside mid like Mathieson. They've already got quite a few tall forwards who can pinch hit in the ruck.

Can't see us going to the PSD this year. Maybe next year when we'll likely have less draft picks to play with (assuming we don't bleed another 3-4 players via trades).

Yep, exactly - can't see them taking a forward/ruck this year, they'll be wanting players who improve them as soon as possible - hence, midfielders. They grabbed Townsend for the inside grunt work, Yarran is apparently in line for a HBF role, so a ball-winning inside/outside player is probably the next ingredient.

Need to make sure we snap up Oliver at 8 or 11 if he's there, because I think they'd be all over him at 12.

I think we might go a tall forward as a DFA... but yeah, the PSD is out this year for us.

Regardless of what anyone does, we should get Mckay at 11 if he's still there... I've wanted him since I watched him play a few months ago, Tall, athletic and can kick... Fits the bill I'd say! Weitering, Curnow, Mckay and Oliver in the draft would be a ripper start to the rebuild...

He would be free and better than any out and out forward we have.

Because they are "free" is not a good enough reason to recruit a player !!

We have gone down that route too many times and look where it has got us. If you keep doing the same thing but expect different results then you clearly have rocks in your head.


Talented youth, there is no other option for us this year or the 3-4 years beyond that.
