I'm only going to say this twice. GET SOUND SHAPES!

This game is seriously good. It's a rhythm based 2D platformer that uses collectable music beats throughout the level to create the soundtrack for the game.

Not only does it look incredible with a bunch of unique, retro but modern looks. But the music created through the level are all instantly likeable and will no doubt get you humming or tapping along with the beats.

Overall there's 5 albums to choose from, all with their own unique art style, music and style of play and inside that are about 4 'tracks' that you play that stand as the basis for your levels music.

The gameplay is a little awkward at first to get used to as there's a weird gripping mechanic for your little blob ball that you're controlling. But after a while it becomes easy enough to use.

I'm not usually a fan of rhythm or music games, but the way this one presents it with the 2D platformer mechanic is perfect.

It's $19.95 for regular buyers or $15.96 for PS+ members.

So GET SOUND SHAPES!

Sound shapes is a buy on ps3 get for Vita free but im not sold on it yet after watching the preview in store. Will suss out some youtube gameplay first
Don't watch too much, the levels aren't exactly long, you'll be robbing yourself of the game if you watch too much.

But it's well worth the purchase. The game is more or less a better structured (in a game sense) version of Rhythm Heaven, where as the levels get more complicated you're listening for audio cues as to when to move and make your jumps, etc.

Plus, the visuals are absolutely outstanding, almost worth the purchase for the look alone!

There's also a level creator, so realistically, infinite levels!

Oh... All the Sound Shapes discussion is in this thread. Here I was thinking none of you had really heard about it/bought it.

Keep on keeping on.
n00bs be n00bing!

Stoked Sound Shapes has a Platinum, liking more and more PSN games getting Platinum's. Although I don't think there's a chance in hell that I'll be getting it.:(

Too hard for ya? ;)

Some of the custom levels on sound shapes hahaha, played the full mario 1-1 world just now, looking forward to getting stuck into the level creator when im done with the campaign
There is some awesome created content out there. At the moment people are still clearly learning the ropes, but there's some really good tracks out there. Some are realising that you can put some interesting gameplay in there as well as re-create or create a good track, while others just want to try the little chunk of music out.

Played a really cool 'Seven Nation Army' level before, very well done. Another cool little level called 'Little strange adventure' that focused more on the gameplay, but also had some really weird stuff going on. It would also seem that the creator basically doesn't allow for bad music either, as anything seems to work.

This game has a TON of potential.
Too hard for ya? ;)
Yes.:(

TBH I don't know what 'Death Mode' or 'School Levels' are, but it seems hard.

Final Fantasy huh?

How interesting!

Death mode adds a challenge, have finished an album and halfway through the next one but is still good fun without being too frustrating. Not only will i plat this game i will cloud sync my save onto the PS3 version and get a 2nd plat for nothing :D:thumbsu:

;_;

You've really hurt my feelings Hutch. You've made me feel inadequate. Are you happy with yourself?
Oh hell yeah. If I can make anyone feel inadequate I have undoubtedly done my job.:)

Just got around to finishing up Sound Shapes after not being in the mood to start a new game so close to Borderlands 2 coming out.

Really enjoyable game overall.

Beck's 'Cities' was my favourite album to play, with the title song being my favourite of the whole game too (with an excellent dynamic visual and gameplay style on the level complimenting it very well). 2nd up would be the opening 'Hello, World' by I Am Robot and Proud, again the first song 'Hills n' Spills' was my favourite of that album. Deadmau5' album was also pretty good. Probably my least favourite would be 'Corporeal' from Jim Guthrie, a little too mechanical for my liking (even though it's the clear theme). All of it really was still pretty great and of a mostly very high level of quality.

I think the best part about the game is that it really does feel like you're just playing an album and songs, if you could import your own albums and create a level from that I think it'd take this game to a whole different and extremely awesome level that would make listening to your favourite album even better than it already is.

Might have to get into the Death and Old School modes now.

Well Death mode is an absolute bitch!

The Deadmau5 levels have me stuffed at the moment, and there's a couple from the other levels as well that I just cannot do for the life of me. One is the electric columns where I think it'd all be perfectly fine if they just gave an extra 3-4 seconds or so, as it stands right now I would need an extremely lucky set of beat drops plus the already needed perfect timing on the jumps in between columns. Then there's the levels that the Superbrothers gave the art style for. The one where you have the 2 crosses red zaps, plus the 2 floating 10101's and you have to jump between them while evading the crossing zaps. Frustration!!!!!

So after being frustrated over and over by those, I decided to head to the Community section. What I got was some incredible levels. You'd expect some of it to be just thrown together bullshit, but people are actually putting out well thought out, very hard and very good to listen to levels. I don't know if it's mainly just by virtue of the creation tools being very hard to mess up (in terms of songs anyway) but it all just sounds so good. And some have taken that and added some really good platforming as well to create some levels that are harder and better to play than the original one's.

Will be able to find out by Wednesday night I'd say. Will keep an eye on it and update accordingly.

Was thinking about getting it for IOS last night but then saw it was probably coming out in the PSN store, might as well wait.

So this game I'm about to mention is one that has actually been out for a couple of months now. Releasing back in September and free for PS+ members at the time of release, I hadn't given this game a go until now mainly due to the name being...well, terrible.

Hell Yeah: Wrath of the Dead Rabbit is the game I'm talking about and I am going to say this as I did Sound Shapes. GET IT!

How did I suddenly come to the conclusion to play this game? I was watching the GiantBomb Quick Look (catching up on stuff I had missed over the past few months), within 5 minutes, I was sold. I'll link it down below, but if this doesn't have you sold within 5 minutes, then it's truly not for you.

It's hard to describe what this game is, because the best word is probably 'batshit crazy'. But in it's purest sense it's a Metroidvania-ish 2D side scrolling platformer where you play a dead rabbit who is the prince of Hell and goes around most of the game in a circular saw that's attached to a jetpack. Oh and it's also a dual stick shooter. Your main objective in the game is to kill 100 monsters in Hell because there's pictures that were taken of you naked in a bath with a rubber duck and they were spread on the Hell-ternet.

So now the easy stuff is out of the way...I'll tell you why this game is so damn good. First thing, the speed of the game. Running at a smooth 60fps and controlling as crisply as you would want a platformer to control you basically go around these sprawing levels killing the monsters (at which you get a generally unique mini-game and death animation) and collecting them to use them on your very own 'Island' that you can put them to work to get you health, money and item buffs as well as surprise gifts. The art style is reminiscent of Rayman Origins, with a very bright, cartoonish style with a huge amount of stuff going on not only behind the scenes but in the general field of view. There's also an absolute shitload of references in the game to all sorts of media, from TV shows, to movies to games (the likes of Sonic, Mortal Kombat, DragonBall Z, etc.), some are more subtle than others too, so you're bound to miss stuff first time around.

You also heal in a shower of blood, in which big breasted nurses come flying out of you...

The music is also incredible. From muzak being played during the loading screens to light and fluffy pop tunes to licensed music to some nice deep rock music, it's all absolutely fantastic. Would buy a soundtrack it's that varied and awesome. In fact, you can download it for free (and legally) from here: http://arkedo-studio.bandcamp.com/album/hell-yeah-wrath-of-the-dead-rabbit-ost (DO IT!!!!!)

The game has received some polarising reviews, however looking through some of them, I absolutely cannot agree with what is being put in some of them. If you like fun games that control well, provides a good challenge and has some longevity in them as well as some wicked humour, then this is 100% for you!

The only real issue I've had with the game so far, is that there's the occasional hitch when the game auto saves. It generally won't affect you in general play, but does cut the sound at times for a split second, which is a bit of a bummer.

Oh and JR#8 it's a Sega game.;) But you probably knew that already.

GiantBomb Quick Look (just watch 5-10 mins and you'll know whether it's for you or not!):
