Nigerian healer killed in 'bullet-proof' charm test

5 July 2018

A self-styled traditional healer in Nigeria has died after one of his clients tested his "bullet-proof" charms on him.

Chinaka Adoezuwe, 26, was killed after instructing the man to shoot him as he was wearing the charms around his neck. Police in the country's south-eastern Imo state say the client has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Charms are popular in Nigeria, where traditional healers are consulted for cures for various ailments. But there have been several reports of people being killed after testing "bullet-proof" charms and medicines. "A young man had gone to [the healer] to prepare bullet-proof charms for him, which the native doctor did," a villager told the Punch newspaper. "To prove the efficacy of the new charms, [he] positioned and handed over a gun to his customer. Tragedy struck."

In January, a traditional medicine seller was arrested after a man drank a "bullet-repelling" liquid and was shot dead. The seller in north-western Nigeria reportedly assured the man that he could not die if he was shot.

"Contemporary neuroscience research has failed to confirm any serotonergic lesion in any mental disorder, and has in fact provided significant counterevidence to the explanation of a simple neurotransmitter deficiency. Modern neuroscience has instead shown that the brain is vastly complex and poorly understood [11]. While neuroscience is a rapidly advancing field, to propose that researchers can objectively identify a “chemical imbalance” at the molecular level is not compatible with the extant science. In fact, there is no scientifically established ideal “chemical balance” of serotonin, let alone an identifiable pathological imbalance. To equate the impressive recent achievements of neuroscience with support for the serotonin hypothesis is a mistake."

hahaha, you're such a phony.

A shocking admission by the editor of the world’s most respected medical journal, The Lancet, has been virtually ignored by the mainstream media. Dr. Richard Horton, Editor-in-chief of the Lancet recently published a statement declaring that a shocking amount of published research is unreliable at best, if not completely false, as in, fraudulent.

Now that's some real academic writing lol.

Would love to know which faculty the students in study 1 came from. Noting the disparity between genders and the ridiculousness of their answers, I doubt I'd need more than three guesses.

Oh Im sure you could go for heaps more than 3.

What Is Raw Water?

The unfiltered, untreated spring water is a hit in Silicon Valley

by Daniela Galarza

Move over Soylent: Silicon Valley’s obsession du jour is raw water, or spring water that has not been filtered or treated in any way, according to a recent report in the New York Times.

It’s apparently flying off the shelves in San Francisco. But is it beneficial or safe? Here’s everything you need to know about raw water:

1. WTF is raw water?

Unfiltered, untreated spring water, packaged in glass bottles.

A few companies “produce” and sell it, including: Live Water in Oregon, Liquid Eden in San Diego, and Tourmaline Spring in Maine. In general, it’s gathered at running springs and bottled at nearby facilities. Live Water says they test each batch for bacteria before it goes to market and that each bottle has a shelf life of “one lunar cycle.”

Proponents believe it’s better than tap water because it doesn’t contain fluoride and chlorine, and that it’s better than traditional bottled water because minerals aren’t filtered out or added to it during processing. They also criticize bottled water for being treated with ozone gas.

Notable fan: Doug Evans, creator of Juicero, the juice world’s biggest fail, who says he’s been drinking raw water for two decades.

2. Should I drink it?

No.

3. Why not?

Bacteria and disease. Untreated water can contain cholera, Hepatitis A, E. coli, carcinogenic compounds, metals, and parasites like Giardia, which cause diarrhea, according to the CDC.

As the Verge reports:

Groundwater wells — the ultimate in off-the-grid water that roughly 15 million households in the US rely on — also need to be routinely tested for safety. Chemicals like arsenic, metals like uranium, or contaminants from agricultural activities like nitrates can leach into the groundwater that supplies both wells and springs. Even rainwater — which is a great for your garden — is less safe for drinking unless it’s been treated, the CDC says. Animal feces, chemicals in air pollution or in roofing materials and gutters, and insect larvae can all swim around in rain barrels.

Live Water markets its product as “naturally probiotic.” At the bottom of its website, a disclosure reads:

These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA. Our services are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Consult your health care provider before making a decision to switch your drinking water source.

4. But is that really any worse than bottled or tap water?

Yep, it’s worse. Though exceptions exist, overall “we have an incredibly safe and reliable water supply” in the United States, David Jones, professor of history of medicine at Harvard Medical School, told the Washington Post. “In some respects the fact that people are worried filtration is removing necessary minerals is really an extreme case of one of these First World problems.”

The FDA and individual states set guidelines for bottled water processing. Inspectors visit processing and bottling plants to test the water for contaminants. According to the Times, only Tourmaline Spring has received express permission from the state to produce and bottle its water.

5. Okay, but at the very least it’s probably cheaper than treated bottled water?

Since the NYT published its story, the price of one brand of raw water has risen from $37 per gallon to more than $60.

Some people will come running whenever they hear about a 'natural remedy' to some ill, thinking that being natural makes it more effective and less harmful.

I run in the other direction. My general rule is: if doctors (who unlike me have been to medical school and undergo 50 hours of professional development every year) are not prescribing or recommending it, it's bullshit and not worth my cash.

So much money gets wasted on snake oil. Being gullible is expensive.

Natropathy has had a great result for me with a certain illness. Doctors, surgeons, specialists didnt know wtf was happening, wasted a year and alot of cash on those docs.

A vaginal product called the Goddess Vaginal Detox Pearl promises to help cleanse women’s wombs of their past sexual partners. The product sold online uses a combination of herbs and supplements wrapped into a tiny ball. Women are encouraged to shove the pearl up their vagina and pray away their ex’s bad energy.

According to an instructional video on the Goddess Detox website, the “CEO” Vanessa White instructs women on how to use the product.

White, who also goes by “Olanikeeosi” shills detox pearls that contain a variety of herbs and supplements. Some of the ingredients include Cnidium, Stemona, Motherwort, Angelica, and Rhizoma. She claims these herbs will reduce menstrual cramps, increase libido, kill parasites, remove toxins, and help women ‘Detox their Ex.”

To prove her claims, White crafted a video about why women need to detox their exes from their “wombs.” White believes that anytime a woman has sex with a man, he leaves an imprint on your ‘yoni,’ ‘womb,’ and ‘uterus area.’

She says that her amazing cloth wrapped herbs have ‘vibrational energy’ that can suck out the bad juju left by a former sexual partner.

Don't know if it's been mentioned, but how about those assholes who think that parts of endangered animals contain miracle cures? Poaching an animal to extinction over pseudo-medicinal nonsense.

I knew a guy who worked as a wine connoisseur/salesman in China. He said that these rich af chinese businessmen he had for clients would brag about how they import and eat the dicks of tigers and whatnot, for virility. Srs.

JCH, I need more detail please.

I thought the water in the plastic bottles has a dose of chlorine to sterilize it.
Straight out of the tap in most instances.
If the local water has chlorine and/or fluoride then it gets a dose of that, by happenstance, not design.

Mineral water comes strait out of a bore.

JCH, I need more detail please.

Easy Snake, i enjoy your posting but even this could be too much detail for ya...

Severe chronic indigestion for a year. Colorectal surgeons, blood tests, stool test, thyroid tests, an oscopy. Fissures, heartburn, haemoroids. Muscular hypetropy of the sigmoid colon. The docs and surgeons were talking surgery to remove parts of my sigmoid, which wasnt a solution. Sleeping was very bad. Absorbing little nutrients and feeling weak and tired all the time.

Natropath solution was a kind of herbal green extremely fibreous drink twice a day for two months straight. Extremely hard to get down, tasted like sewerage. This was meant to get my body to reset digestion and have something for my bowels to grab onto. Within 3 days i took my best, least painful s**t in years and although i still have say couple days every 3months or so due to stress where i have a little bit of diareha. Its NOTHING compared to the past.

I then took a HUMAN probiotic for the next two months prescribed by the same natropath. Its made from human breastmilk and is i still assume illegal to source as thats what he told me at the time. All of the probiotics sold in the shops are animal ones iirc. This was to then replenish my guts bacteria after the fibre drink phase. Same as a baby gets its first main serving of gut bacteria from the mothers breastmilk i was told.

Now my guts our naturally sensitive to stress and crap food. IBS i guess. Not everyones is.

I will also say that modern medicine is really a great amazing field and of huge benefit. Its your first stop when a health problem presents itself. And in every other case besides my guts ie dozens of examples, it has helped me enormously.

Looking back, i was lucky not to get a bad spinster kind of fraud natropath who preys on people. Because at that point i would have done anything/paid anything to anyone to get better. For that im thankful aswell.

What was wrong in the end and how did the naturopath figure out out?

I replyed to snakes post its all there kickazz. I naturally have ibs and years of eating crap food and stress my guts just stopped working like they used to, bigtime. Lack of appropriate gut bacteria was it. There was bacteria just not a diverse amount of different good ones. Like you just drink coke for years straight you will kill off certain bacterias as you dont digest actual good food enough for the good ones to do anything and populate. Good and bad bacteria mix gets slowly overtaken by just bad bacteria that does half the jobof proper digestion, if that.

Thats it in a nutshell. It was all my own doing as in i ate s**t foods and drinks for years. Ended up paying for it with this ordeal and now i know the amazing benefits of eating a well balanced healthy diet. I just had to see what its like on the other side to appreciate what i had and thankfully still have.

Gut microbiome issues. A standard G.P. could have fixed this, you just didn't have a good one.
