I once had a driver who went past my stop and two stops past that even though I rang the bell. He tried to blame me.

I let the prick have it as I left.

Happens a lot, some of the sprays the drivers get are priceless :D.

This old guy that looked like a cross between a grey haired Super Mario and one of the wrestling Goodwin's went off his nut as it happened twice before he got off. When it happened to him he called the driver a bloody disgrace :D

One of many reasons why I so rarely take it (this has happened to me too, albeit years ago)

I had a run in with a PSO tonight. True story, this happened and Im pretty pissed about it and my back is starting to hurt and I can’t sleep (more so from the adrenaline). For the sake of this tale I shall refer to this person as VPSO (Vigiliante Protective Services Officer)

I got off the train at my local station about 6.30pm after work and jumped on my push bike and peddled slowly to the Myki touch off point, the closest person to me was at least 30-40 metres away. As I approached the Myki touch off I saw a PSO on the other side of the tracks motioning me to get off my bike, I slowed the bike down some more, swung my leg around so I was kind of riding side saddle with two feet on the one pedal when I touched off then walked down the stairs. This did not impress him.

After that I got back on the bike , then crossed the tracks to get on my way home. I heard a voice about 20 metres behind me on my right hand side say "Oi" and I said "feck off" and the next thing I know I was grabbed from behind and pushed off my bike and I fell over. When I turn around there were 2 PSOs, one playing good cop, the other a VPSO.

The VPSO said, "Your coming with us, pal " and I said, "bullshit mate I'm going home". I went to pick up my bike and walk off but they grabbed me an dragged me to the nearby bus shelter. I did not retaliate physically but I was very, very pissed off.

The VPSO kept asking me why I was swearing and being a smart ass and I said “you threw me off my bike you kent”

After some banter the VPSO said "I could charge you with riding on a platform, side-riding and riding on the train tracks."
Me, laughing: "Seriously, side-riding?"
VPSO: "Its not funny"
Me: "You cant charge me"
VPSO: "I can detain you until the police arrive"

Long story short they asked for my name and address and said if I didn’t supply it they would arrest and detain me until the police arrived. I gave my address but when they asked me for ID I gave them my Medicare card.

VPSO: “Where is your license”
ME: “Its at home”
VPSO : “Why don’t you have your licence?”
Me: “Does it look like Im driving a car?”
VPSO: “Most people have their licensed on them”
Me: “All I was doing today was riding my bike to the station, getting the train to work then coming home, it wasn’t like I was planning on going to a nightclub and having to prove my age (Im 41 BTW)“
VPSO then contacts a police operator on a radio to confirm my address.
VPSO, and this is not a word of a lie : “Have you had any prior run ins with the law or previous convictions, are you known to police?”
ME; “Feckin what? That’s none of your business and he just confirmed my address”
VPSO: “You have to answer the question”
ME; “ I got a speeding fine 20 years ago for doing 70 in a 60 zone, feckin seriously, do I look like Im part of the Apex Gang?”
VPSO : “Well We are going to let you off with a caution, please obey the signs next time.”

On a serious note I’ve filed a complaint with IBAC but does anyone know who else I can complain to? If I was urinating on the platform or assaulting someone I can understand them using force, but side-riding? Feck me. How embarrassing.

I get the feeling a fine is coming my way.

Giggled throughout this. This being the highlight - Me: “Does it look like Im driving a car?” and this “you threw me off my bike you kent”

Follow it up with a visit to the police and make a statement I reckon

I've had one bus and one tram go past me, didnt stop.

That is the worst. Actually humiliating like ****ING TAKE A LOOK THAT IS YOUR JOB.

Has happened to me before, a real mix of emotions.... disappointment/frustration WHILE trying to play it cool so that other traffic going past don't realise and giggle that the bus just drove right past that person!

I was thinking of doing this last night but the missus talked me out of it. I'm still pretty peeved about it all.

I've done some internet detective work and it looks like I can complain to the Ethics Standard arm of VicPol but I may stop at the local constabulary tonight, after i drive home

On a serious note- had the bus driver stopped for Daniel Morcombe he'd still be alive today.

I know it's not his fault and he was instructed to drive past him/other ones waiting but you do think what if..

Can PSO's be charged with assault?

Do you have the PSO's name or ID number?

Why we cannot look at complaints about Protective Service Officers
Protective Service Officers (PSOs) provide specialist protective services for the general public at metropolitan and major regional railway stations from 6.00pm until the last train of the evening, seven days a week.

While on duty at train stations, PSOs have a number of powers which include:

  • Arrest and detain - including arrest for drunk and disorderly offences
  • Search people and property - and seize items such as weapons and alcohol
  • Issue on-the-spot fines (infringement notices) - including for graffiti offences
  • Issue a direction to 'move on' from the area.
PSOs are recruited, trained and employed by Victoria Police. Victoria Police is not a member of the PTO, therefore we are unable to look at complaints about PSOs.

You can make a complaint about a PSO to:

Victoria Police – The Police Conduct Unit (complaints and compliments), Ethical Standards Department. Telephone: 1300 363 101 Email: ethical.standards@police.vic.gov.au

Hate PSO's

Tuesday night was in Footscray with my brother - To get home I always ride down to Macaulay as opposed getting on Footscray only to have to swap 1 station later at North Melbourne, plus to get to Macaulay you ride down the Dynon Road bridge which is always a bit fun...

Anyway, it was bloody cold Tuesday night, got to Macaulay station just before the train was arriving - The PSOs were there by the myki box and as I touched on one of them said 'Too cold to ride?'

I looked at him and said... 'no.. just too far..'
PSO: 'Where you going?'
Me: 'Home'
PSO: 'Where is home?'
Me: '.... why do i need to tell you that?'
PSO: 'Where are you going?'
Me: '.........'
PSO: '.. I asked 'where are you going?'

Now I was pretty stoned so I probably got a bit paranoid... I can't tell if he was just making chit-chat or not, but they should probably realise that having a gun hanging off their belt isn't the best way to start up conversations about one's travel arrangments with total strangers...

I guess the fact that I ignored them after that and got on the train without them saying anything more means they were just trying to chit-chat... but geez talk about making someone feel uncomfortable... in what other social situation would asking a total stranger 'where are you going?' and 'where is home?' be normal?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Unrelated to Tuesday night

Anyone else get affected by the total shitshow of the Upfield Line Boom Gates being down all morning, stopping traffic from crossing the line on Bell St and all of the intersections along the line?

Got myself a day off after walking along Bell St for a bus that was never coming or a taxi that I could not find for nearly an hour before giving up and walking home....

Yep, a 25 minute commute turned into an hour drive to work after I had to drive up and around the end of the train line to get back to work.
