What is it with people from East Brunswick, Brunswick, Northcote, Thornbury, Mooreland North* Fitzroy, North* Calrton?

They have to be some of the most passive aggressive people around! Most of them ride bikes and look down on people who drive for enviromental reasons, most would drive a vintage car in a heartbeat that that is destructive to the environment and most are aggressive towards you if you don't follow their way of thinking!

So sick of them!

*I love calling these suburbs North as they flipping hate it when i do! "No i live in Fitzroy North"

Right - So someone here actually advocated cars hitting bikes to 'teach them a lesson' and I am the aggressive one?

Interesting...

I like the assumptions you have made about people dependant on their address... I guess that is your perspective, but I've been in this area for nearly 4 years and I wouldn't say the motorists/cyclists here are any more or less aggressive than any other area I have lived in.

- (also, do people honestly care whether or not someone calls it Fitzroy North or North Fitzroy? I have never come across that)

What were the big stretches of bitumen, or roads intended for? Stick to bike paths along creeks please.

Yeah! Those bloody cyclists think they own the road.

...

Back on topic-- I was at an outer-suburban train station today and saw someone being booked for not having the correct ticket. I overheard the ticket inspectors say that infringement notices usually arrive within 2-3 weeks.

I look forward to cars being banned from the CBD as those roads were intended for horses and carriages.

Seriously though, the road is intended for vehicles- cars, motorbikes, buses, trucks and cycles.

I've said this before but you complain about bikes hitting pedestrians being dangerous and then want them to ride at 35km/hr (road bikes do this easy) on a shared path? LOL.

Cyclist are like possums. You hit one by accident when it is on the road you feel sorry for it but you think it is stupid for going into a dangerous area where cars are in the first place :p.

obviously hasnt lived with possums

I have been asking that question for a while and i still don't know

When I went over last year it was quite confusing - also it was difficult on some of the trams to find where to buy tickets.

Also interesting the student cards are accepted as concession in Perth but not in Melbourne.

Do you reckon that the "I'm from Perth and am here on holidays" will work?

Wouldn't matter. If it takes six weeks to send an infringement notice they'll probably be out of the state/country by then. :p

My mate did the most brilliant thing last week on the train. He got pulled up for not having a ticket and as the woman was writing his ticket he asked her out, and I quote "will spend the amount of that fine on you in one night." :D She bought it and never gave him a fine. He took her number and then never called her. Absolute genius.

This. I've got 2-3 tickets, never paid them. Kept getting calls and letters and even the bill went higher but I kept ignoring it. Eventually they stopped trying. Haven't been black listed and I don't have any bad credit either :thumbsu:

Anyone else just not paid it? I have a fine siting here, and I'm thinking about ignoring it.

They send reminders. My mate got one yesterday.

This is what it says on my notice, I'm just wondering how far they will go with it, or if it's just scare tactics.

Step 1: If you do not pay the penalty by the due date, you will be sent a Penalty Reminder Notice. A fee of at least $22.60 will be added to the penalty at this stage.

Step 2: If you fail to respond to the Penalty Reminder Notice within the permitted timeframe, this Infringement Notice may be sent to the Infringements Court, which will issue an Enforcement Order requiring you to pay the penalty. A Lodgement Fee of at least $48.90 will be added and Enforcement Costs of at least $26.30 will be added to the penalty costs. The Enforcement Order is a Court Order.

Step 3: If you do not respond to the Enforcement Order within 28 days, the infringements Court will issue a warrant. A Warrant Issue Fee of at least $55.10 will be added to the penalty and costs. The warrant authorises the Sheriff to demand payment of the penalty plus costs or to seize your goods for security. If you have not paid within 7 days:
  • Your property can be sold, or
  • If you have no goods to seize, you can be imprisoned.

They do the same as they do with council penalties. What was it for and circumstances.

Thought I might resurrect this thread...:

Had my details taken down this afternoon by what I believe undercover PSOs crossing the railway tracks with the gates down.... was told I would receive a $800 fine, did some research and all I could muster was a fee of $345?

I am not the first and surely not the last to get done here, has anybody been in the same situation and what did you do? Hoping someone produces a loophole or something I can use, $800 is harsh! :(

So wait, let me get this straight, you crossed the road while the boom-gates were down and you've copped an $800 fine. What a f**ing disgrace!! I know of shoplifters who've stolen thousands of dollars worth of goods who received a lesser punishment! What a farce the legal system is in this country.

Well I didn't receive any fine on a paperslip but one will be sent to me apparently. I'm questioning whether the guys have the '$800' fine mixed up as I've been looking at this document and the max I can see for crossing a railway line with the gates down is $345.

I'll go through the process of writing a letter and such but if I get stung here it will be my first ever fine for anything, never had parking, speeding or fare evasion tickets in my life.

I guess it's all relative -

I was at the MCG on saturday - The scoreboard periodically came up with a notice that said there is a $7000 (!) fine for any ground invaders....

In the grand scheme of things, it sounds rather ridiculous

Many a Train driver has committed suicide after hitting a people doing that. Has to be discouraged.
