I used to live in that building. Rooms overlooking the platforms. Fantastic place Cheers for posting. I've only just stumbled onto this thread.

I can't remember it ever being black and blue when I went there from about 1998 or so onwards. It was seriously run down towards the end except for the memorabilia behind the bar. I wouldn't piss on the place if it was on fire now.

OK, i remember doing some work opposite a pub, possibly in East Perth ( close to East Perths old ground anyway) that was in East Perths colours, i ws relatively new to Perth then ( around 10/12 years ago) and did not investigate any more, wish i did and took some photos, would you have any idea what that pub may have been called.

Cheers.

Country WA has some seriously beautiful architecture. Such classic old pubs. Kal is a cool little town for it – fond of snitz and **** up there too!

Have you got any from Albs?

Got a stack of pubs from Kal that i have not posted yet, so i will have to check.

Just out of interest was the Brisbane hotel at one stage painted in East Perth colours ( black and Blue).

Talking about 10 or so years ago.
The old Norwood Hotel on Lord St was painted Blue & Black just up from the Bulwer St lights not far from Perth Oval. Was pulled down a few years back for flash new apartments.

Appreciate that very much, wish i took a photo, thought for a minute i was imagining things.

Now I remember that was blue and black. was an East Perth pub for a long long time. They used to have strippers on in there after Glory games. It was heritage listed but the new owners were ever so careless and let it get ruined by homeless people to the point where they had to knock it down. Shower of campaigners.

Did a old newspaper search on it, appears it was quite big on hosting boxing matches back in the 1920's and earlier along with sponsoring cycling clubs.

Boxers used to actually train in a section of the pub.

I would be interested to know whether the colours were a result of the owners being fans of East Perth FC, and of course good business sense, or it was a co-incidence.

And of course the usual fines for sly grogging, having SP bookies on site and the usual assaults, break ins and assorted disturbances. :)

East Perth Hotel, sometime in between 1970 ( have seen a photo in 1970 where it was East Perth Hotel) and 1982 when this photo was taken the Hotel was renamed the East Perth Tavern, not sure when it was demolished.

PERTH SPORTS Saturday 17 May 1924

Members of the East Perth Football Sports Team and their supporters are requested to meet outside the East Perth Hotel to-morrow (Sunday) morning at 9.30. A charabanc will be in attendance to convey them to Jarrahdale, when the local team will try conclusion with the visitors.

For those that are interested, the East Perth hotel was closed around 1998 for the Graham Farmer freeway ( polypipe :) ) and would have probably stood where the Southern side of the freeway is now, near Claisebrook Station, interesting that the licence was transferred to the Mustang Bar in Nothbridge, objectors to that, amongst others were the Paramount Nightclub and the Church ( another nightclub)

fabulousphil wow! That is an absolutely beautiful old ground. I didn't even know it existed, as weird of a thing that is to say. That old grandstand is a total pearl too, reminds me of the ones at Bassendean.

I remember playing CBC and another club, North Fremantle were in our division, so I always assumed both clubs played at CBC. While breaching the subject, that's also a decent ground, right near the Monny too: it's on this bizarre angle, there's all this room and it's like they've crammed it into a corner. I played an absolute stinker there and we were flogged so maybe that's hazied the old memory...

This is actually confounding me. How far away is it from that Swan Hotel? On Google Maps, both East Fremantle Oval and North Fremantle have an embankment and a heap of nice old trees when you drive past the outers... I always thought we were driving past Shark Park but maybe I have been past NFO a few times. Very interesting. I'll have to mosey on up in summer. Looks a nice place to hang out and watch some cricket for an afternoon.

Have you been past the Cruickshank Reserve in Dalkeith? I heard it called Wattle Avenue more than anything so maybe that's how you know it. A seriously nice little ground. Little being the operative word. Looks right over the river, dewy tree-lined streets in winter, framing embankments... go past.

Cheers, i was hoping someone would notice the pics, it is about a 10 min walk at most to either the Railway or Swan hotel, the Rose and Crown now a pharmacy ( ?) is also the same distance and also has some significant history with the club.

The same day i took the photos at NFFC i also did East Fremantle Oval but am yet to post them.

Dalkieth ah, i should have a look, my son actually played at Collegians in Nedlands last week ( cross district juniors ) but as i was runner did not get a chance to take any pics, but that ground is OK as well.

Would you believe that the NFFC has a great book out on the history of the club and the bloke i was chatting too insisted i take it without paying, fantastic book and has been well worth the read.

If you are heading South to Freo from North of the river just before you cross the bridge turn left and about 100 metres along the road you will finf NF Oval, it's well hidden.

The club played in the WAFL from 1901 to 1915 apparently, BTW don't bother with the Railway Hotel though dropped in for a beer and punt around midday and the music was deafening ;), Swan is much better.

Right, that's it. I for some reason just really liked that ground. What are some other cool ones in Perth? I only played in the city for a season but most grounds seemed to be pretty boring, just at schools and rec grounds with not a whole lot to distinguish them.

My olds are back in Freo so I'll be moseying upward if anything, thanks for the tips anyway.

Speaking of good looking pubs, not near Adelaide Oval, although Largs Bay is in the Port region, this is the best looking pub in Adelaide. Great history too, where Cold Chisel cut their teeth.

Nice, :), speaking of Cold Chisel, sad news about another Adelaide boy Doc Nesson passing today .... RIP, if Chisel played there, i reckon the Angels would have too, one of my favourite bands as a young fella.
