Jack Riewoldt needs to address something very quickly. That is his attitude when things aren't going the way he wants them to. A few weeks ago I watched him give Martin a bake when we played the Dockers for miskicking a ball into the F50, a few weeks before that he gave Morton a bake against the Saints for taking a shot rather than putting the ball to the top of the square so that Jack to take a leap. On Saturday against the Pies he was at it again, giving Morton another spray for daring to have a shot when Morton was well within kicking distance.

I wonder if anyone bothered giving Jack a spray after his 2 turnovers in the first quarter on Saturday where he kicked the ball directly to Collingwood players twice.

So pull you head in Jack and remember what you keep saying to the media in that its all about the team rather than individual awards. You may just end up a better player.

Disagree RT , ever since Harwick has taken over the mantra has been new game plan and sticking to it. Is it part of the game plan for Martin to kick 40 m worm burner passes into full forward when the full forward is being double teamed and his main strength is in the air.

Is it the game plan for silly hogs that are not showing any form at all to be trying to snap goals 50m out from the side line instead of doing the team thing and pushing the ball high up into the square for our full forward who is once again brilliantbin the air and on ground level a chance to lock it in our forward line.

Jack is the forward line leader now and it is his responsibility to keep these numb nuts from getting ahead of their capabilities. They'll be better footballers and we'll be a better team if Jack keeps telling them like it is.

Jesu RT have a look at the replay, Jack was free when morton blazed away, at the time i was spewing that morton saw the goals and blazed away, look at the replay again, he was about 10m from presti and he was moving away to the pocket whilst presi was moving to wards the goals.

The bake was well deserved by morton.

Both those times Jack has gone off so have I. Both times the player Jack has had a go at has made a mistake that goes beyond a skill error.

Morton's shot at goal when Jack had the positioning on Presti one on one was a disgrace. He was running towards the boundary line and kicking from 50. Was almost the maximum low percentage shot instead of centreing the ball to your FFs advantage for a high percentage shot.

And Martin's kick to him simply was wrong, it was a flat punt that gave him no chance instead of playing it to Jack's strength and giving it some lift. And from what I remember it wasn't his first kick like that during the game to the forward line.

Well done Jack for upholding of what I see to have been two breaks of team rules by his team mates. :thumbsu: :thumbsu:

i don't have any problem with JR8 - it can be a fine line to walk between being an assertive strong leader and being petulant & selfish and right now I think he is definitely more of the former. Has improved so much in past year in terms of his smarts, competitiveness, strength and leadership. Obviously the quality of delivery to him on weekend was way down on previous couple of months and he can be excused for the odd expression of frustration. Still way better than Richo ever was in that department.

Wow... sleep on that RT?
I completely disagree.. If a player doesnt do a 'team first' action they deserve a spray..:thumbsu:

I agree with Jack, but I disagree with him giving them a spay on the field. Better ways to handle it.

I meant to comment on this after the game... there was quite a bit said in the media and posted here about Jack's 'attitude' & I guess it related to the incidents you have pointed out RT.

Personally although I don't recall all of them I don't have too many problems with a young player showing passion and therefore frustration when opportunities are fluffed.

Richo used to cop this flak as well and apart from 1 pretty famous incident, (& didn't he get dropped afterwards?) his passion was always targeted to whatever was best for the team... Jack's is the same I reckon.

Geez, I love the fire in the eye that Jack shows & if he goes over the top I am confident that Hardwick and the Leadership Group will wind him back a touch. (Just like earlier this year with his goal celebrations pre-season)

The last thing I want is for Riewoldt to go back into his shell... he is a real confidence player and if it helps him to be pumped up then I say go for it.
And showing frustration does not mean showing anger...

listening to SEN this morning Bruce has a bit of man love going for Jack, reckons he is one of the most Speccccccccccial talents in the competition

Wow, you're normally so measured RT. I have to disagree fully. I think one of the incidents you are talking about was when Martin stabbed a pass towards J-Voldt and he made the motion of pointing his hands in the air and it was taken as him telling Martin to put it in the air and everyone assumed it was Jack telling him to put it up so he could take a screamer. However that gesture is a commonly used way of telling mids to have a shot for goal when they have the chance.

I agree with what your saying that he needs to clam down a bit but in relation to the highlighted part I disagree. I felt at that time Morton had eyes only for goal and banged away, Riewoldt actually had a few metres break on his Collingwood opponent near the goal square, perfect opportunity for Mitch to prove he is following team rules but failed miserably.

I've been really mystified by the criticism of Riewoldt's "selfishness" this week. Footy Classified had a go at him, MMM apparently roasted him for his attitude... I just haven't seen it.

the old double sided coin. If Jack had of grabbed the Martin worm burner and Morton kicks truly no -one complains even though they haven't done the team thing.
Having said that Harwick would still want his players to adhere to the game plan and if you dont then expect him to have a quiet word with you

Definitely disagree with RT.

Jack plays with a lot of passion, as another poster explained, he has that fire in his eyes, we can all see it.

Although he sprays players because HE wants the ball, he is the full forward and should have the ball kicked to him or the next best option rather than have superman Morton go for the impossible goal.

Jack's a champ, but as turtle said, the way in which he does it may not be the absolute best way to handle it.

His sprays don't look the best on camera, but they have been well deserved. I have no problem with it.

Yeah, I reckon he could be more supportive. Could be a slippery slope.

From afar, though, I cannot be sure the words he is using and whether he is abusive or constructive.

reminds me of Richardson the way he gets so excited and angry <3

anyway, we don't know exactly what goes on. the coaches might be telling the players to do something eg. be realistic and put the ball in a good position for jack, collo or whoever else (jack did this beautifully when passing 20 meters from 40 out onto Collin's chest when jack could've easily scored the goal himself)

martin's kick was low, completely drilled. a forward already on the lead could have barely got to it. morton's shot was just out of desperation i think..well i hope so anyway

what seems to annoy the commentators is in the team huddle when jack looks away and looks around

Sorry but I disagree.

Don't change a thing jack. Your passion and hunger for the tiger cause is refreshing.

Keep up the great work. :thumbsu:

This is a (figurative) "sins of the father" reaction...people are just worried Jack will end up with the same flaws as Richo....I'm not...firstly...every FF goes off when things don't go their way, secondly..Jack is nowhere near as demonstative and over-the-top as Richo, thirdly...unlike Richo's scattergun approach, there's usually a method to Jack's leads and finally, it's taken Jack about 3 years to learn about second efforts and working hard both ways..not the best part of 12 years...

Shit thread.

**** lose a game to the AFL form leaders and potential premiers and then have straw in our jocks.

FFS EVERYONE GO TAKE A CHILL PILL BEFORE YOU CHEESE ME OOOORRRRRFFFFFFF.

AAAAARRRGGGGHHHHHH

nothing wrong with players having a go at teammates on the field, thats what leaders are for. players are ultimately accountable to their teammates and coaches on game day, and players have to keep each other honest to the team, as well as backing them up and congradulating and so on.
