The part I find odd is he isn't up for suspension.

Tripping can cause suspension

Jumper punches (which effectively don't land) can cause suspension

Any impact with the head causes long suspension

Pulling hair does not?

You recon players won't start to see this as a viable alternative now?

If you want to rough up your opponent chose one of the following:

a) Stand chest to chest with them and bump them abit, above the knees but below the shoulders and don't use your hands.

or

b) Reach straight for their head, grab and rip left to right as hard as you wish.

I guess the humiliation of doing it is apparently punishment enough. I had a laugh at the time as Nason f**king hated it but in hindsight it wasn't Sammy's proudest moment.

Sam completely embarrassed himself, the club and the Hawthorn captaincy. In a time the club needs leadership the captain tries standing over a first year player(yeah real tuff) then pulls his bloody hair. An utter disgrace HTFU Hawthorn.

Average effort. But still amusing.

Wacking a bloke in the Jatz Crackers is surely still the worst act on a footy field. Scarlett, Kerr anyone?

Still, Sammy should know better, he should be concentrating on how to turn this club around rather than resorting to schoolyard bullying.

The moral outrage is entertaining though. Are you people part of one of these "Family Groups" I keep hearing about? Shouldn't you be lobbying the government to ban Justin Bieber from Australia because his hip movements are corrupting our young girls minds?

White men yes.

As for Ballantyne, he was probably annoyed at Harry O (see Harry O is irritating thread on bigfooty, he wouldn't be the first). But Ballantyne is obviously a different cat, I'm not going to try to work out whats going on in his head.

LOL, GOLD:thumbsu: I wouldn't call what Nason has dreadlocks, more like the girly Bali hair braids! Its terrible!!!

The good part is, Nason stood up to that little bitch Mitchell.

Is that what you call it?:D He was twisting and turning trying to put Mitch down while Mitchell just stood his ground and laughed. Was p*ss funny on TV.
Hair pulling is not on, but neither is squirrel gripping, pinching etc and they all happen. The umpires have pretty much encouraged it by always paying free's to the retaliator.

Andrew Welsh?

As a younger man I played a great deal of footy with shoulder length hair and I can testify that it hurts a great deal to have it pulled. Interestingly I seemed to have an immediate and involuntary reflex reaction when it was pulled. This usually resulted in my fist making contact with the head of the person who was pulling my hair. I wonder if a biomechanics expert could explain this and provide an out at the tribunal if Nason and co. were to start retaliating? ;)

Don't try and justify it.

Can't believe hawks fans are in here defending peoples rights to pull hair on the football field.

Not defending the act, Mitchell or ballantyne.

Just trying to point out that it happens all the time and isn't unique to a particular team, Bateman used to cop it every other week.

Anyone who thinks it doesn't happen all the time (albeit a lot more subtly) is either naive or stupid.

The amount of holy arseholes in this thread is laughable, but to be expected on BigFooty.

Play on.

it's like how pigeons move their heads when they walk

It's very much a generational thing, anyone in Gen X and older knows that when you rock up to a footy field with a new team, you have to earn the respect of others before you parade around in white boots or long "look at me" hair.

That, or you were a Dermott Brereton type who said, "I know what's coming my way, and I'll put up with it, I'm that good". But you did get hit a lot.

These days, I'm not sure they even make black boots anymore, and every bloke seems to have a do like a rock star.

I know its not a popular concept, especially with Gen Y folks, but if you put yourself out there, like a Kyle Reimers with his yellow boots immediately, or (as much as you don't like it) Nasons or Bateman in the old days, then expect attention, and don't expect it to be good.

I'm not really particularly proud of Mitchell for pulling hair, but we can all see the reaction it invokes, and it takes a second of madness in an important part of the game, for Nasons to throw a punch before he's thought about it...and it'd be a free kick to Mitchell. Sam would be well aware that a Nason's punch is not going to hurt, in the same way you wouldn't nipple cripple Barry Hall. Although the Hawks (including Mitchell) have been known to point out the chin to Hall during some of his brain fades...so they don't mind aggitating.
