Found another thing I loved. Final goal, inside the last minute, the foot race between Seth Campbell and Zac Williams. Williams was the hapless wildebeest to Campbell's big cat. He outran Zac like the poor man was dragging a sack behind him. Epic effort. Great to watch. Don't miss it.

That was beautiful to watch. But the Blues player who got lapped was Cowan. Mansell disposing of Weitering like he was putting the trash out in that play was absolutely superb as well.

Stats are shit if you go by them we would have lost by 10 goals.
Lalor getting 8 score involvements made me smile though.

Carlton in all fairness should have won this, they had the lion’s share of goal opportunities but couldn’t kick them

Yeah if they kicked straight first quarter would have won. But like they say bad footy doesn't win you games. I was mostly happy for the defenders they didn't deserve the bombardment and held strong. Mids lifted second quarter than the forwards functioned amazing what a change can do. The turning point for me was the second quarter when i suddenly realised hey they are starting to play the 17 defensive game. We never let them breath.

How good was that!? I was at the game and it was EPIC! I
I know we had a pretty good draft last year but the thing that stood out for me watching the replay was the contribution from draftees from other recent drafts.
Tom Brown: HUGE
Seth Campbell: BIG
Mansell: BIG
Steely: Did some good things
Sonsie: Did some good things when he got on
Dow: Did LOTS of good things

And Lalor? Wow. I'm not sure if t else has mentioned it but I saw a bit of young Ben Cousins in the way he played tonight.

I was also ready to throw my toys out of the cot when I saw KMac lining up in the centre for the first bounce. I wanted everyone fired. But I was wrong. And I couldn't be happier!

How good was it singing the song?! That was a massive upset. Watch the replay and soak it up Tiger fans. YELLOW and BLACK!

Our defensive game from q2 onwards was like Carlton’s stoppage work in q1, all over us like a cheap navy blue guernsey

Quoting myself here: I remembered this one from a few weeks back about Jack Ross.

He never misses.

One thing I have liked about him in recent times is his kicking for goal. Not a lot of opportunities but when he bobs up inside 50 he takes his chances.

Over the last few years he’s scored 14 goals and 5 behinds. If only Shai had’ve had that confidence and strike rate.

Tim Taranto: 30 possessions, 69 supercoach points.
Tom Brown: 10 possessions, 84 supercoach points.
Brown played better on the whole tbf

That massive catch and kick for mansells goal (I think) was worth 50 alone I reckon

Crippsy and Walshi normally play well in synergy.
Crippsy normally gets first use and feeds out to Walshi.
However Walshi had a stinker.
Cerra laid a big fat #### on the turf.
"Run and Carry" Saad went AWOL too.
7 bounces and lots of running but lots of running up blind alleys from saad. None of the Carlton blokes could get a hand to it by the end either.

Wow - that was great. Had to watch the game delayed as work commitments but that was a literal perfect start to the season.

So many thoughts, will try to just bullet-point all of them

-The dickheads have left the building. It looks to me like the people that were likely causing all behavioural, petulant behaviour - on, & off - are gone (Balta, take note). In past few years when we got a run on, too many times we would give away a very dumb, ill-discipline freekick/reversal, or give away a needless 50m penalty. Saw none of that today. There was a real sense of discipline & standards.

- We look so much fitter, stronger already. Be it a new fitness team or just the above dickheads no longer setting the standard, the fitness already from this group that should be "too young" & "too old" was a huge improvement.

- A few days ago i said a lot of Yze's fate will lie on how he can mould a potent, unpredictable attack with the rag-tag mix of players with various different strengths. After 1 game, i reckon you can almost set that at Lynch, Armstrong, Lalor, Ross, Mansell, Campbell, Bauer. The size, speed, poaching & aggression this group showed was immense. Ross & Lalor immediately had clear chemistry, linking successfully several times. Armstrong after game showed several "elite" qualities.

-Get Blight extended through till 2028, minimum. If you are giving Ryan 3 years, then give this guy the same deal & offer it to him while he is injured to show you rate him. He is still very raw, but his size, mobility & aerial talents are clear as day. Don't let him head back to WA anytime soon, lock him in.

-Best versions of Miller & KMac makes a world of difference.
Miller had maybe his best game for us i thought. The challenge for him though is to play like that a minimum 3/4 games and fix his "floor" performances. He was great today & it made a world of difference.
KMac "The Headband Years" to me is a clear identity change for him to be ready to accept a more stateman, leadership & enforcer role in the side. It was like the headband brought with it the powers of Bruce Doull & Jimmy Jess. He played with a hardness and aggression that seemed to me be a very clear shift in his on-field role. And i loved it. The headband stays.

-Nank the Tank. What a beast of an effort, loved his work running back, reminded me of late years Benny Gale. Genuine support to the backline.

-I think Dow, Banks, Sonsie are closing in on finding their roles to actually own "role spots".

- If Blight, Brown, Trainor can continue to link up down back with Vlaustin, Broad, Miller, Short with Nank dropping back - then WHAT THE ACTUAL **** do we do when our blue-chip super athletic / Agile Key position defenders in Balta & Gibcus get back?

- I feel like Yze's style will revolve around big, agile, fast of foot players who compete, crash and bash contest all over the ground. If Balta & Gibcus can work on getting elite aerobic capacity, they could legit become full-time wingman in the way Richo was. And if Faull, whose resume suggest he might have the highest ceiling in that contest competitiveness area, also can do that - this side becomes very freaky, weird in a way that reminds me quite a bit of that 2017 Richmond team felt. We certainly have less elite guys like Cotch, Dusty, Jack, Rance etc - but the actual mix of the team tonight between old & new was excellent. Voss looked utterly defeated from the 3rd quarter on as he had no answer to it all.

A incredible 1st round win. Takes all the pressure off the kids for the season.
