As if a prestige NFL team would accept combined men's and women's teams on the one site.
No way, José.
Back to the drawing board.
We aren’t a NFL team, they’re all privately owned by billionaires who pay for it all.
Completely different to the AFL, we share or we get no funding.

Ok. They should probably make the map on the Metro Tunnel website a bit clearer then i.e. bold ring and bold highlight the South Yarra station to indicate it goes through it like they have with Caulfield etc.

Did a quick google, and I'm wrong on South Yarra. Was in the original plan (I attended some sessions as a potential supplier), but has been ditched because of cost. They were gunna have to increase the platform length at SY, and estimated cost was a billion (assuming because of the heavy development in the area), so the tunnel is now just before SY

Forget the NFL, something simple like this should suffice:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Etihad_Campus

Only 200 million pounds, right at the doorstep of home ground.

Shouldn’t be too hard - we will simply purchase half of Richmond, bulldoze it and ask one of our wealthy warlords and/or official middle east oil princes to dip into their pocket and splash some cash.

:drunk:

While this isn’t feasible or within the realms of possibility and that was tongue in cheek it’s actually a great case study into the importance as value of having in house facilities and a connectedness between all arms of a football club. They even share stadiums/training facilities with the women’s team.

One of the big boosts is it enhances our viability as a sponsorship $ generating machine. Tying all our sponsors up in a great development on the side of one of the cities busiest intersections coupled with multiple teams and community programs can only mean great sponsorship revenue potential.

Brilliant move for club/community to develop in this way going forward.

I knew you were wrong. I was just trying to get it out of you. I'm a smart arse like that.

Seems to me there will be an unmitigated disaster with the Pak/Cran/Frankston lines when it comes to Richmond station and getting to the MCG precinct when sports events are on.

Nobody on the Pak/Cran lines is going to want to go into the city (Town Hall) to then come back to Richmond on another train. They will change at Caulfield and get onto the Frankston line which will be the only line from that entire corridor going to Richmond station. That will totally decimate the Frankston line from thereon in. Nobody from Caulfield onwards will be able to get onto that train. Similarly, leaving the MCG precinct at Richmond station, every man and his dog (Pak/Cran) will be wanting to catch the Frankston train rather than having to go backwards to Town Hall.

I can see benefits of the plan where day to day commuting on these lines into the city is concerned, but Richmond station is already a disaster after a big event and it will now be off the charts dangerous - specifically where Frankston/Pak/Cran are concerned.

I still think you are massively overplaying this. From experience, jumping on the tram and going back to the city is quicker than walking through the RFC concourse regardless (agree that's a mess that won't change even with the ramp just because of sheer numbers already)

Again, do you want a tunnel under citylink just to allow richmond to remain connected? Remember the whole point is to remove this line 100% from the loop/flinders

I understand your second paragraph and that's why I said I get the city commute element and the benefits thereof, inclusive of lessening the load on the Loop.

But catching a tram or walking backwards to the new Town Hall has whiskers on it. And that's just getting out from the MCG. You didn't solve for getting in. You know for a fact that everyone on the Pak/Cran lines are getting off at Caulfield and blowing that line up totally from thereon in.

Arriving is less of an issue because people come in over up to a two hour window

It's only end of game because everyone is leaving at the same time

And the tram doesn't have whiskers on it. Even on gf day 2018 my mates and I were at a restaurant in the CBD before bf posters were even on a train. The tram is bloody quick because few stops and they rack them up

$60 million.
$30 million could develop a greenfields site in the outer suburbs for the women's teams.
$30 million for academies at Punt Road, preserve our heritage stand.
No way known a senior NFL team would accept a combined site with cramped conditions like this.
And when we can earn money like them NFL teams we should think about it.

Yep not worth destroying JD stand for this little gain.

We could just buy the carltoon hq for the VFL/awfl teams

The company mentioned, Otium, is developing the Melbourne Victory academy and W-League site in Maribyrnong.
A separate venue to the men's team.
Richmond fans are paying membership dues, revenues and the taxes which fund our project.
Consult with the fans.
Do not deliver a fait accompli when you use the public's money.

Wasn't a fan of demolishing the Jack Dyer stand but happy to knock it down now to get the ScoMo stench off it. Looks like we helped him out with photo ops with every minority, he was loving it.
Shouty Mo is a minority of one scumbag hisself...

STATE GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCE FUNDING FOR PUNT ROAD OVAL REDEVELOPMENT
Tuesday November 17, 2020

Richmond Football Club today thanked the Daniel Andrews State Government following the announcement of a $15.5 million funding contribution for the redevelopment of Punt Road Oval and the establishment of the William Cooper Centre.

The planned redevelopment will provide improvements and much-needed upgrades to the Club’s men’s and women’s football facilities, while also supporting Richmond’s cutting-edge community programs and administration needs.

“Richmond is where we belong, and Punt Road Oval is our home. This redevelopment will ensure the Club remains strong and bold - and in the heart of one of the world’s greatest sporting precincts - long into the future,” Richmond President Peggy O’Neal said.

“We are incredibly thankful the State Government shares our vision for the future of Punt Road Oval, the role it will play in supporting the elite performance of our men, the continued growth of our women’s football programs, and the importance of the Club’s community activities.

“We need to keep evolving as a Club and after careful consideration, the Board believes this redevelopment will best meet our future needs, that of our fans and the community.”

The redevelopment will create a thriving high-performance hub for the Club’s male and female footballers. The re-sizing of the oval and upgraded amenities will allow for AFLW and second-tier competition games to be played at the venue in front of crowds up to 8000.

“The William Cooper Centre will provide agile and flexible learning spaces that will support the Korin Gamadji Institute and Bachar Houli Foundation programming. On-site accommodation will also support the Melbourne Indigenous Transition School. This facility will empower young people to shape their own futures,” O’Neal said.

The $15.5 million provided by the State Government comes on top of $15 million committed by the Federal Government earlier this year. The Club will now work to secure the balance of the funding needed to deliver the $60 million project.

“Every footballer deserves an equal chance to play the game to the best of their ability and that’s why we back initiatives that provide a level playing field,” Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Martin Pakula said in making the announcement.

“Beyond the game, Richmond have shown leadership in their community involvement and the new facilities will allow them to extend this reach.”

Stage one of the planned works - pending final planning approval - will see the Punt Road Oval playing surface resized to MCG dimensions, removal of the existing Jack Dyer Stand, construction of new public seating and amenities, female changerooms, community facilities and a function space.

Stage two will see construction of an underground car park while stage three will see a new landscaped forecourt, refurbishment of the existing Swinburne Centre including a new sports hall, Tigerland Superstore and public entry. It will also see a new landscaped terrace behind the northern goals.

“We need our AFL program to train on a ground that is the same dimensions as the MCG and we want our AFLW and second-tier competition teams to play at a venue that not only meets their needs, but that of those supporters that come to watch them play,” O’Neal said.

“To achieve that outcome and ensure Richmond remains at Punt Road Oval long into the future we need to remove the Jack Dyer Stand. Elements of the stand will be retained and incorporated in the new facility.

“These recent years have been an exciting chapter in our rich history, and this redevelopment is the crucial next phase as we continue to build a Club that our members and supporters are proud to be a part of.
