would love to hear what sort of resources u guys use when it comes to ur punting, i think its really interesting how people go about making their decisions when it comes to betting; im sure some on here would be stats junkies and pour over all manner of stats to help make up their mind, whereas others would go more on feel.

I myself would be more of a stats man, looking for value each week based on the stats that i feel are important however i do acknowledge that intuition can bring about some great results that go against statistical theories.

Their is a rather good resource for US betting called covers.com, im sure a lot of you would be aware of the site, are their any good betting resources for aussie punters that you guys use?

Obviously bigfooty is a fantastic resource for afl, their is a great community vibe here and people can learn off each other, if their are other good resources anyone can recommend, please list them here!

a couple ive used in the past are:

betshoot.com
sports-punter.com
footballoutsiders.com (nfl)

Watch as many games live as you can. Stats are no substitute for having good firsthand knowledge of team form.

Use a database to record and analyse all of your bets.

Do what everyone else isn't doing. Look for overreactions.

Stick to a sport you know. If you bet on more than 2 or 3 sports then you're almost certainly a mug.

Have the discipline to not bet for days or weeks when you can't find a game that meets all of your betting criteria.

The list of handy tips goes on and on...

do your own market and bet where you see value.

follow jockeys who have good strike rates at certain tracks. for example the leading hoops in australia at sandown lakeside are boss nolen and symons. they rode half the card on wednesday.

If you bet on your fav jockey or trainer know what they are like at cetain tracks.
For example, chris symons has ridden 6 from 14 winners at morphetville and 8 from 38 at lakeside compared to 3 from 80 at flemington.

I reckon thats how you find the value not become a mug. Pick the bet that fits your own criteria and your own knowledge if your well read on many sports. You need 3 or 4 sports - sometimes looking at the form of up to six leagues in the one sport to find the legs to get you to your desired odds v risk.

A copy of Best Bets before a Saturday punt is the best money you can spend for mine.

Compact, easy to follow and quickly find a race. Good comments and has just about everything you need to have a well informed punt.

I am constantly bewildered how people aren't willing to pay $5 for some good form which more often than not improves your days returns, yet the same people will back all races all day without having a clue.

For tracks with tiny straights like Mooney Valley, you're going in blind without speed maps.
