This is based almost entirely on speculation with a touch of inside knowledge, but the Saints have been putting off resigning Nick Reiwaldt all year.

I heard directly from a very very legitimate source who was with him a fortnight ago that he was extremely worried that an injury would end it. Now it's happened.

I was thinking that Sydney would be the perfect new home.

He'd play a bradshaw-esque role where we know he won't be playing every game all season, and he'll only be around for a couple of years, but he will fill that hole in experience while Reid and Morton develop.

Most importantly for Nick, he will be away from the hounds in the Melbourne media, plus his wife is a Texan with no ties to Melbourne.

If he's only on a 2 year or year to year contract salary cap shouldn't be an issue as most of players who's wage will ne skyrocketing have a couple.of years left on their current contracts.

Anyway, just something to speculate over on a Monday morning.

While Morton develops? He's 25 and has played almost 100 hundred games

He's nothing like a Bradshaw type. Bradshaw was a stay at home forward who could rely on experience and guile to get goals.

Riewoldt is a forward who relies on his big running and athleticism to get separation from his defender. With a dodgy knee his career isn't going to finish well, I'm afraid. No thanks.

I think Jack would be an awesome fit, proven goal kicker, and the Swans culture will focus him far better than the Tiges

Also about as likely as us wanting or getting Nick.

I feel this need to reiterated, it just wont work. I feel for the guy but he's better off at a club where even horribly injured he would shine, of he wants a few more years then he's off to the bulldogs (or The Dee's if they had any sense as he could play a Sam Reid role drawing defenders allowing their other forwards to get loose)

In any case I would expect The saints to retain him on a small contract let him finish as a sainter nice a quietly within the next year or two while they look for a replacement.

Not sure why people are getting so outraged. It's not the worst idea I've ever heard, even though I dislike Reiwoldt.

I agree with the poster earlier though who said he's not the type of forward who can carry a knee injury. If we were going to go for a power forward we need someone who can play out of the square and take strong overhead, contested marks.

This year he has played 19 of a possible 20 games kicked 47 goals averaging 2.5 a game (more than double our highest scorer) has scored the sixth highest number or goals this season and he is a leader on the field.

If he would be willing to sign for one or 2 years on decent pay due to his knee injuries he would be a great addition to our team and could prove to be a big improvement for our forward line.

Cant see the above happening though since he would need to take a pay cut on what he earns this year move interstate and the only thing he would gain is a good chance at the premiership for 2 or 3 years. We would have alot to gain and he would have little.

He will stay at the Saints next year if they make a fair offer but if they dont we would be looking into it.

Is he a free agent ? if not what would he cost in trade.

No.

He has bad knees and hammies.

He is past it.

We would get him at the end of his career ala spider everitt.

List clogger.

We have Sam Reid who will better.

Just no.

People are crazy, of course we'd take Riewoldt if his name was put out there and I'd be disappointed in the club if we didn't try to sign him for the right price.

We have Reid and Goodes, and neither if them can lead the attack by themselves. We need someone else, and I doubt we can get a Cloke or Tippett as they're both in their prime and don't seem likely to come to Sydney.

I would be hugely surprised if Reid ends up a better forward over the span of his career than Riewoldt has been. Reiwoldt has been a champion of the competition.

A good chance at a premiership is little to gain. Seriously?

I reckon he'd play for nothing and give up his right knacker if he could play in a winning premiership before he retires...

True but its still just a better chance than St Kilda and far from certain. He might get the same opportunity from Collingwood if Cloke leaves or Carlton without needing to completely uproot his life in Melbourne.

I wouldn't be hugely surprised. Obviously it is a big call to say Sammy will be better than Reiwoldt, but I wouldn't say it is impossible or even improbable.

Kid has serious talent. Wait until he fills out, I can't wait until he can compete one-on-one. He even matches Reiwoldt's dodgy kicking (although Reid has shown measurable improvement)!

He is arguably a better (or maybe cleaner is a better word) mark of the footy already (form slump aside - he is still a kid).

apparently buddy franklin has fallen out of favour with hawthorn and theres a fair chance of him playing else where next year.

would fit in perfectly to sydneys team.
