Good morning everyone,

I hope you've enjoyed the first two parts of the Q&Apalooza with Joe Brierty & Nathan Schmook, now it's time to complete the trifecta by kicking off the Q&A thread with Corey Wagner. It's obviously a big week for Corey and the club leading up to our first match of the season on Saturday so the timing of things is still somewhat fluid, but Corey and Brett will have some time to kill on the plane over to Melbourne on Thursday so we may get the first airborne Q&A session!

With that in mind we'll need to get some questions in for Corey to answer so I officially invite all Freo fans on the board to reply to this thread with your questions for Corey over the next couple of days.

The same advice applies as for other Q&A's - please make sure your questions are respectful and coherent. Sure we're a niche and quirky part of the Freo family, but your questions will be going to an actual person that you want to do well in his chosen endeavour, which is representing the Fremantle Football Club to the best of his ability. Some humour is fine of course, but just think about what you would ask him in person before posing your question here. And this time it's somebody who will be giving their utmost on the field to help us achieve the success we crave.

Many thanks in advance to Corey for getting involved with this and once again to Friend of the Board Brett for making this happen! I'm really looking forward to hearing the thoughts of somebody that has as much passion for the club as this:

Here's my opening question for Corey:

You grew up in a family that played a lot of footy in Queensland, which at the time would not have been anywhere near as popular a sport in that part of the world as it is now. How did your family get into footy, and how did growing up playing the game in Queensland at that time shape the player & person you are now?

And my bonus question because this is probably beingt asked while on a plane:

Do you prefer the window or the aisle seat?

Righto fam, your turn to ask the questions. Have at it...

Corey, thanks for doing this mate, why do you think it's all clicked at your 3rd club? Were there things you werent doing at North and Melbourne you wish you had? Given Freo's success with Vossy and yourself, are there things we are doing better (from your experience) in getting more out of players?

Hi Corey!

Just wondering if you can go a bit into the injury you sustained in the last round of '25 and the mental side of missing out on a final after contributing massively in helping the team get there.

Has it had an effect on you this preseason? Does it drive you even more for this coming season?

Hi Corey,

Can you please give us some insight into the efforts Michaela put in behind the scenes to keep the home life going, supporting you to be the best athlete and footballer that you can be with training, recovery, travel etc making the life of a footballing dad unique?

Nice soft question. Yeah, nah, full credit to the girls.

First of all, congratulations to you and Michaela on baby wags #2!
We saw you play some pretty varied roles last year - have you continued training as a tagger and do you expect that to be a big role for you this season?
And who are some of the guys who get everyone energised and pumped at training?

Can I ask 2 questions:
1. We have seen you play pretty much everywhere for Freo, do you have a favourite if you had a choice?
2. If you are being set for a specific player to tag how much research during the week would you generally do? Are we talking less than an hour or many hours?
Thanks Corey, love your work 👍

I'll go with a couple broader questions focused on the parts of AFL outside of the bright lights.

Who in the club do you have the most interaction with on a day to day basis during the week? What parts of everyday AFL club life do you enjoy the most outside of gameday; team meetings, gym sessions, match sim, something else?

How do you approach your pre-game prep? Do you personally have a set routine and do you try and achieve a focused environment, or do you look for distractions?

Hi Corey

I appreciate you taking time out to answer questions from the supporters.

Which clubs do you see as Freo's hardest match ups this season and why? And how does the Freo coaching group instill confidence and hunger amongst the players to push for top 4 each season?

Hi Corey,

Thanks for doing this!

Just want to say fans love having you in the team.

Could you tell us about some of the different strengths of the assistant coaches from a players perspective, especially around game day or game day prep?

And if you had to pick one or two things as a team, could you finish: we play well when we..

Thanks Brett for facilitating this and Joe’s interview, hope we can do this sort of thing every year!

How ya doin

Your a pretty handy player for us these days , do you think the winding road to make it as an AFL player has helped make you the player you are now

OR

Those list managers who dumped me were all idiots …. I was always a gun

Hi Corey!
First of all, I just want to say you're my partners favourite player (I think that's more based off your good looks though!), so thank you for getting her on board with coming to the games!!

Since moving to Freo, what's one thing this city/state has that you think could be a really big selling point for east coast players moving forward? Obviously Perth is now your home, so what are some things that really make you love it so much?

Cheers mate!

I might even go further with the Queensland based questions:

Hi Corey,

I originally had one question but as I was typing it out, being a Brisbane based Freo fan, it sort of evolved into 3 so I do apologise. Your family has quite the storied history at Sandgate Footy club (I was quite surprised to read that your dad was the inaugural captain of the Brisbane Bears development squad). Did you spend much time playing junior footy on the peninsula? What age did you end up at Aspley? And do you get much of a chance to come back up North these days?

Hey Wags, Thanks for stopping by to answer questions. I'm one of the few yankees on the board, so I always like to add some US flavor to my questions. I'll let the Aussies ask the relevant, footy related questions. lol. 😂

1. Do you watch any American sports? If so, do you have any teams you support?
2. If you had to play one of the big four professionally (baseball, American football, hockey, or basketball) what would it be, why, and what position would you like to play?

Best of luck this season! I hope you have another strong year! Go Freo!

I'll chuck another question in for Corey:

Who has been the biggest shit stirrer at the three AFL clubs you've played for, and why? And were there any at your other clubs such as Port Melbourne/Casey/Aspley?

Final final question, which is the social media platform players find worst for "constructive feedback"? You guys probably do your best to stay away reading it yourselves but do relatives/friends often come to players showing some of the absolute horseshit they've read?

Thanks Tonga Bob for organising! Looking forward to it

To answer your questions - Grandad and Pop played footy growing up. Dad played for the Bears so I was always going to play AFL as a kid. But because it is the rugby state I grew up playing rugby until I was 16 but I was definitely always going to play AFL, rugby was just for fun. At 16 I went fulltime into footy and really had a crack at it.

And now that I've got a baby I'd say aisle, much easier to get up and go!
