Official Club Stuff Q&A with Geoff Parker 2014

Remove this Banner Ad

Geoff Parker has graciously agreed to field some questions about the 2014 draft from Port Board posters.

So if you have any burning questions you would like answered, post them here and Andrew Fuss will put a selection of your questions to Geoff on Wednesday 12 November.

Many thanks to Geoff and Andrew for agreeing to respond to this impromptu Q&A session..

I don't think Geoff would know that. Timing issues thwarted us early on, then Keith's workload and his regular missives left the Q&A behind.

Maybe Andrew will have a look at Keith's diary again. ;)

My question is: What will be the make-up of our list at the end of the draft in regards to the numbers on the senior list and how many rookies we will take into the 2015 season?

Are we going to pay 105% of the cap in 2015?
If the answer is yes, will it go back to under 100 in 2016?

Are there other teams?
How many ruckmen will be added in to the list prior to 2015?

Are we looking at any DFAs?

Will any of the players we add to the list be mature/previous listed players?

Are there going to be any more delistings?

Are there any areas of identified needs other than ruck support?

What is the strategy with late picks in Port's situation? We often hear pick the best available with early picks and pick for need later but with a first pick in the 50s, do you try to get the best available or go straight to picking for need?

Do you expect to identify players in the 50ish bracket that you would be most likely to target or lay in wait for a slider?

Does the club have a pro-hipster recruiting policy?

Are we more likely to draft a delisted AFL player or a mature age state player in either draft? Good luck.

I have a better one.
Will we find out who you think are the top ten players before or after the draft? :D

How much, if any, does having a PAFC juniors background sway a players worth in the eyes of the recruiting team i.e, would you pick Jake Johansen over Caleb Daniel if we were looking at a small this year?

Do we think that there is value in AFL performance to be had from maintaining a strong local footy presence? Will PA be looking to set up local development pathways?

How important is character in comparison to talent when drafting?

My questions revolve around the need to draft key forwards:

1) How does the club view our medium to long-term key forward stocks? i.e. Is there a reasonable level of confidence internally that one or more of Butcher, Shaw or Harvey will make it as an AFL Finals-capable key forward?

2) If not, then what are our contingency plans for recruiting a key forward? Is there any hope or expectation that we can nab a high ceiling KPF with our late picks this year?

3) If not, will we need to trade into the top 10 picks in the following two draft years or would we prefer to directly trade in our next KPF?
