So for those who haven't been in Qld Footy for the last 15 years like myself, it all started way back when we had "drought like" conditions in and around Brisbane and water restrictions. So to play on a wet day meant ground got churned and as sometimes it then didn't rain for months, they were left bare, dry and too hard to play on. It seems this mantra has continued since then despite changed conditions. Being in the industry, there are also the insurance concerns and I know you will all say WTF has insurance got to do with it, well unfortunately nowadays, some people who fall over in the wet or slide into a fence will get a number off the TV and think, hey there is a buck in it for me... And so starts the slippery slope risk vs return... Anyways, just some background, not backing or bagging the decision, but I did love to play in the wet!!!

**** you must have some good mail qafl before the website fb and Twitter are updated!!

Currently showing only qafa b north and Central. If all leagues called off will be plenty of blokes checking the fare rules of their mid season trip to Melbourne!!
I imagine most clubs have been notified.

Seniors I believe is still on in all divisions, just no Ressies

A high number of council owned grounds is also the issue. Less of an issue in Vic and other AFL dominated states. In those states, even the councils understand the want to play so let it go ahead.

Here councils will fine clubs for damage to the ground. The community needs places for people to let their dogs shit.

Hardly unexpected. Aussie Rules footy in QLD is a dry weather only sport it seems.
I am a born and bred Queenslander and have to admit that i have not played footy in any other state so i maybe i might have a biased view on this. I know Peanut is a big advocate of playing in any condition it seems but to play in these conditions would be ridiculous. I don't mind playing in the rain (well actually I do because i am skinny as and just end up freezing my butt off) but that is different to playing in a swimming pool or a bog!
Plus we need to take a longer view. The fields are used for all our club teams including juniors, with most clubs not having a lot of money to set aside to look after them. So what is the point of totally destroying them over one weekend. Especially when there is a bye round already set aside for exactly this situation.
Plus as someone else stated earlier it is not like you get a heap of spectators out to a weekend like this. After all is it usually pretty ugly footy in these conditions. So not much good from a financial point there either.
But does not matter now as all games called off by QAFL. So enjoy your weekend off and we will get back into it next week.

I like most the guys on here am originally from Victoria I played north gippsland, West gippsland Latrobe and EFL and whilst we never in my time had a game called off I do not ever recall getting this kind of down poor in such a short time I personally think if they did games would be post poned also . So it's not a matter of a little rain stopping us from playing it's dangerous and I think smart to not play . That is my opinion only .

Well I also played much of my footy in Vic, coached Juniors in Vic and played plenty up here. I totally understand both sides of the coin, damage to grounds vs it's a wet-weather sport. However it's now insurance, 'safety' and don't get sued. To me the problem isn't really the chopping up of the ground and the bs safety concerns of playing in the mud, it's the fact that unless you can flatten the field once it's dried out then the deep foot holes dry and cause a dangerous surface.

Good one kp . Funny thing is a lot grounds will be fine by 12-2pm tomorow as the rain will have cleared by midnight and the sun will be out in the morning . Shame no one gets a game .
You must play for the Brisbane Lions, as they only surface in QLD that would drain that quickly after this much rain is the GABBA.

I'm from Vic and recall several games being called off as a junior.

My old man coached the Albury Tigers and I remember game getting called off, and he carried on about it like the rest of you muppets.
I was raised - never grew up - in western vic n can never, ever recall a game bein' called off cos it was too wet. Ever. Seniors or ressies. I understand the councils point of view (insurance concerns might be drawin' a long bow tho) but at the end of the day it's a winter sport, let 'em play! It's just not footy.

It's a fair call as much as I wanna play and hate being told we can't cause it's raining... modern day insurances and health and safety issues are the issue if people wouldn't sue over a little cut and grounds weren't as expensive to maintain as they are now we would be playing. Good weekend for people to recover from injuries etc sucks even more for us cause now we have 2 weekends off in a row!!!

In news down south there is a game being played pictures just in

After reading all your comments crying cause you can't go play in the mud, I don't believe how selfish you all are.
Not one mention about the poor umpires who have go out there as well.
