Find that hard to believe. 20 out injured means your fielding a ressies team. Still think they will finish top 3. Long way to go

As I understand it, they have 25 out of their 'senior squad' injured. Whether that translates to 5 senior players out and 20 ressies, or an even break up I don't know. But it surely wouldn't be helping things.

However, given they got pumped by Surfers by 12 goals - maybe they are at, or close to ressies strength. All due respect to the demons of course.

Also thoughts on the state squad? Any names missing who you would think should be in there?

Obviously more based on reputation that form...

You would think Staker getting picked on the back of 0 games is surprising, and with Lake in charge seeing 9 siders in there isn't surprising.

Would have though Dienjes from Broady, Davis from Magpies and Thynne from PBC were a bit stiff not getting picked.

Ryan Dienjes hardly been sighted, played only one game more that Staker.

QAFL_FAN were you referring to DARCY Dienjes ? Ryan's younger brother. If so yes, he was very stiff not to get a look in, IMO, has had a fantastic preseason and has showed brilliant form in the opening rounds. Fantastic to see Ryan Pantic and Nathan Quick in there, Ryan and Nathan have embraced their new leadership roles at the cats extremely well and are finally being rewarded for the quality footballers that they are !

Adam Clarke is stiff to miss the squad. Won Labradors B & F by the length of the straight last year. Had the flu badly when Labrador and Morningside played in round 3.

There are 2 of them. The older oner should get in on reputation, like a few others have. The younger one should be there on form

Agree, didn't even notice he wasn't there as assumed he would be a certainty

Adam Clarke got voted best player in the comp last year on that Aflq website by his peers but misses out very stiff!! Must have abit of depth at Labrador as there reserves are sitting 3-1 to start the season but obviously not showing in the seniors I back them to bounce back!! Very surprised staker got pick as he has not played and one would think he's body is stuffed??

Magpies would be mad to let Staker play.

4 rounds in and he can't get on the park for them yet, imagine if he does a string playing for QLD !

cotton wool surely!?

Staker has played about 20 games of footy over the past 4 seasons,,, he is totally finished to play any sort of footy as his knees etc are stuffed,,,, I dont know why the Magpies bothered to recruit him from a playing point of view,,,, I hear he is a great clubman and no doubt would be a benefit to the club in this area, but his playing days are over and how the so called qafl selectors picked him in the rep squad just shows how amateur they are

The umpiring department might want to get a hold of the tape of the first half Lab vs Mt Gravatt. Game got out of control for a period. Umpiring was a debacle.
One ump in particular stood out, disgraceful.

Watched Grange vs Siders first half on Saturday. Complete non contest, with Grange falling off a cliff since Round 1 when they were so impressive.

Siders usual supsects getting it done for them, as well as a few new faces I didn't recognise. Obviously got the cheque book out over summer.

Siders definitely have a 'brand' under their new coach, whereas under Lakey they got by on talent. Grange seem really poorly coached, which is a worry at this level. Who exactly is coaching them? The players don't appear to know!

Drive over to UQ to catch the 2nd half of their game vs Surfers. High quality and frenetic game, UQ appear to have really unleashed the shackles and play risky and exciting footy. Just lacked the polish at key moments, almost like when they get a sniff - the nerves appear and they retreat into their shells after playing without fear to get to that point.

Surfers an impressive outfit, with good scoring power up front from a range of both small and tall options. Demons will have no trouble putting up a score this year with their excellent front half, but their defence is a bit leaky - sort that out and they will be a serious challenge imo, bit of a sleeper I reckon.

Didn't know Morningside owned a check book? Tell me QAFL Fan who did the Siders buy??

Probably don't, all done by internet transfer these days. Might even have one of those phone apps?

I see we avoided the Question! Lol

Here I will answer it for you.

Only 3 players that played against Wilston Grange weren't with the Panthers from last year. 2 are returning players.

A strong 2's over the past 3 years, means you don't need a Cheque Book.

How many are Morningside Juniors....?

Just pointing out that Morningside didn't use their "Cheque Book". ( Please feel free to correct me for the 2016 season) everyone knows when it comes to Senior Football, players go anywhere to get a game. And yes players do try out at Morningside. Just as any other players would try out at other QAFL Clubs!!

Personally I think the biggest recruit for The Panthers this year has been the coach Matthew Walder. How could Grange let this Bloke go?

The good part is that the QAFL has opened up and there are 4-5 teams that could win the Premiership this year!!! And that's good for Qld footy!!!

Chikka,, agree with you .. my employer is a company that has been a major sponsor of the Panthers for many years ( Downtown Toyota) .Iam involved at the business level of sponsorship here and have a basic insight into the money required to run the club yet alone player payments .... Morningside do not have a open chequebook thats for sure ... as most clubs in the QAFL ..

There is always an element of jealousy / mystery around how certain clubs can obtain / retain excellent footballers - the assumption is always "must have a big cheque book" but never that a club is just a decent footy club run by decent people.

Every QAFL club pays players, match payments and player contracts are part of QAFL license conditions aren't they?

I'm sure Abey and the boys didn't just turn up back in the day because they thought we were good blokes, no doubt a 'bag of chips and coke' were on offer. But I'm pretty sure they stayed because its a good club.
