Hornets win the colts at Zillmere … real finals type game… Sherwood kicked all seven in the 3rd in about 15 mins… tense finish, A Sherwood lad soccered one off the ground with a minute to go and just missed, woulda tied it. Rapt for my mob, commiserations to Sherwood who’ve been great all year. The surprise Qualifying final loss to the Siders probably cost them.

I thought the same thing. Surely you can squeeze into a pocket or at least on the bench with 90 goals in the bag. Picking 4 mids on the bench is a bit strange.

The flawed logic would be that they don't need 3 x key forwards and they have deemed him to be 3rd in line behind the other 2.

However is about 5'10 and plays a completely different style and its complete madness he isn't in there!

I watched this game, one of the most bizarre games of footy I've seen. Hornets should have been up by 8 goals at half time, but missed some genuine sodas in the 2nd quarter to be 4.7 to stuff all.

Then it looked like more of the same in the 3rd, but the Magpies came to life and kicked 7 in what felt like about 10 minutes max. Then the final quarter, whatever they changed for the last 10 minutes, they changed back and barely looked like scoring again until the final 3 minutes when they took their turn to miss 2 sitters.

the better team won, but one of the weirdest games I've seen. The Magpies team looked scintillating when they got up and going, but then straight back into the shell after 3/4 time. Not a well balanced side, a few trying to do too much and others not doing much at all.

There were quite a lot of basic skill errors made by Sherwood players in the first half. Easy marks dropped all over the field. They were chasing tail the rest of the day and fatigue probably caught up with them.

The Aspley midfield certainly got hold of them and it put their defenders on the back foot. The defenders performed well - but made some bad errors chipping around and trying to switch play. Felt it was more poor kicking, than dropping simple marks.

#22 Fox, #30 McPherson and #11 Levi were outstanding for Aspley, McPherson should have kicked 8.

#26 Slater and #11 Kim for the Magpies were outstanding, but Kim was underutlised. #12 Boothey a big reputation but was smashed in the ruck, while Kim changed the momentum of the match in his brief spell taking the ruck.

Hadn't seen much of Fox before, but he was dominant and Magpies just kept kicking it to him

I reckon Coach Carse will get that flag thats been eluding him . Redland with finals experience and thye best full back and best full forward in the comp is a huge plus. Redland will have to nulify these unreal starts to a game by Surfers where their intensity is of a massive push ,, makes for a great game

i think Surfers were up by 41 points in the Qualifying final against redland a few weeks back?

A repeat of that and I'm not sure Redland will chase them down again.

I hope Carse gets the flag that has eluded him (along with some of their loyal players like Stallard, Huddy, Malone, Williams etc), but always had a real soft spot for Surfers - a great footy club. So I don't think I'll watch the game with any real preference on the winner.

Not quite the fairy tale of Surfers 2019 though with a team full of local kids, so probably lean towards Redland.

Good summary here … Foxy played a few ones games towards the back end - right about Boothey, not his best day

In other news Pilgrim finished up from the Senior Coaching role at Hornets … one of a few clubs looking for a new coach in 2026 I suspect

Redlands didn’t concede a free kick for the first 40 minutes against Morningside in the preliminary final ! A repeat of that will make it hard for Surfers.
Haven’t seen a lot of local footy this year but the umpiring was well below standard for a state league competition.

Was waiting for someone to comment or was it just the norm now.

The arm chopping in contests was non existent except for select few players. If they deliver same level or standard this week Surfers no chance of keeping Redlands forwards under control.

Let’s hope they set a tonne and are consistent all day for both sides.
